  1. vince- yup agreed gill- some of the truely active people on the board here and the "old timers" will remember this. Awhile back my ex did a huge report for the LOSSC (stakeholders) this report was a finical impact that the lake Ontario fishery had on the economy of NYS. All the data, information, return on the dollar etc was taken and used from government data and information. This report was then complied, graphed, and written up into a booklet. This booklet was present to everyone from local clubs all the way to the top of the food chain including the federal level. It opened alot of peoples eyes, open some communication, meetings on a levels and branches where held.NOT A SINGLE person of any governing body challenged or denayed the massive amount of revenue created by the fishery on Lake ontario. BUT here we are years later still trying to get the same basic issues and situations addressed. The powers above know the money and trickle down income generated from the lake.
  2. vince- I will be the first one in line if they'd like a volunteer group of stakeholders/users to strip Chinook this fall. A phone call away or a post on here...I would be there also and sure alot of others would. Gill- this has been happening for years and many organizations, clubs, and even a stakeholders group has/was/is around to communicate with the DEC. Meetings range from individual groups to meetings with just dec, then dec with local, state and fed. reps. I have sat in a number of meetings with the DEC, State and Fed agency's. LOTSA, ELOTSA, Charter groups, and tributary organizations all are a great place to join, learn, participate and have a voice. like stated power in numbers and Squeaky Wheel gets the grease.
  3. Boat US/West marine sells deck paint with traction additive. i used it years ago on a Thompson I had. Worked good but gotta move you a*% applying it...died super fast. Good luck.
  4. Jennings - Looks awesome thanks for the reply on dealing with the company. I am almost finished doing an electronics upgrade and this is the next project that is going to be taking on. I will contact Steve Shaw - thank you oh ya - my ups driver is a piece of work also.... put a box of electronics behind my recycling bin and garage can on pick up day. thank god i got them before they came.
  5. I agree fully about the egg collection. This has been discussed before and is something that we should keep pressing the DEC on. This is a battle that is worth fighting. I strongly believe that the collection is genetically engineering smaller salmon. yes there are other factors like mother nature etc but keep "breeding" smaller fish ya going to get smaller fish. Also we need to keep pressing the DEC on more pen fish allotment. Once when there study is done and data collected it should be a battle in our favor that we can win. As for the Lake Trout... these fish will always be added. Federaly funded and a native species. The Great Lakes Fishery has alot of say and power over the DEC as to what when and how many are going into the lake. I disagree with the number increase of them, and it is very "stressful" to hear the DEC state all their data, say no to more king stocking, then finish by stating a long living, eating machine lake trout increase BUT again we are barking at the wrong people about it. Salmonboy-I have to disagree with point about the DEC. They are a government agency and since this is supposed to be a government for the people shouldn't there main function in this case be to do what the people want/what's in the best interest of the people? once again the DEC primary concern and focus is conservation and the environment. If for some god known reason it was determined that salmon or any other non native species was seriously impacting the environment and hurting it.... they would be gone. Fishing for them is a benefit to us all. yes it is a put and take fishery but dont believe for a second that it has to be here for us because it what people want.
  6. Gill-t I own a construction business and offered to help with some of the building issues. It was issue after issue of politics and insurance and liability etc.
  7. okuma convector and all series above are great reels

  9. Looking into having them do some storage cabinets along transom and also replacing rodlockers with some storage.are you happy with them? any cons with dealing with them or with what they made for you?
  10. here is the bottom line some of you are not gonna like it but its a fact. AND IT SUCKS. the DEC stands for Department of Environmental Conservation- their mission first and foremost is to focus on the enviroment and conservation. Ecosystems, water quality, species control whatever the cause maybe - their job is to help conserve and maintain the enviroment if their job or plan was to put fish in the lake for us to catch, make them all get to 40lbs and keep it jam packed stock so we all can make $ off the enviroment the DEC would stand for Demartment of my EXTRA CHANGE. they are here to keep the lands and lakes in NY and dont care about us making money of the resources or if there is 40lb. around. Thats the bottom line and cold hard facts. We enjoy the lake and the fishing it has. Some of us make some financial gain from it but thats our decision to try to do so. 2 weeks or so from now we all will be enjoy what is out there....want more or better YUP but that's human natural lol
  11. Dave- it was a figure of speach and was only trying to make a point. When you work with them instead of slamming and demand stuff happens alot easier.
  12. tom - well stated
  13. Put it in their face agreed! BUT also drop an offering down deeper also - catch the big lazy fat one that dont wanna move. that way ya double dipping get quality and quanity
  14. Yankee- lake trout fishing will no longer be referenced as 'farming" or anything else along them lines I think we should now call it "government subsidized fishing "
  15. like i stated three pages ago ...broken record. "hands tied" no money data for us not needed ....... I agree that the "trib" fisherman voices are heard alot more than "lake" fisherman....but there are some self inflicted reasons for this. Not saying the only reason but a part of it . Go to these meetings and "trib" fisherman are bonded, grouped, organized. They tend to not "put down" the dec. "trib." guys approach the dec in NUMBERS, ORGANIZED, and with a "what can we do to help" approach ,,,,,then they get alittle "reward" here and there for their voice. Alot of lake guys are not gonna like it but its approach that "lake" fisherman need to take. slamming the dec, screaming, yelling, asking for a million different things at once just don't work. Fight battles, win one at a time to win a war. Wanting, wishing, demanding 10 different things at once will only fall on deaf ears. Jerry you know what i'm saying.
  16. Sea tech marine Dennis Daniels teaches the U.s.c.g. License needed to charter. It is called a operator of u inspected passenger vessel. I took the extra few days of class and got my master license... Opens more Options down road and wanted to do it once lol A lot of things change when you obtain your license so take that also into consideration....insurances, legal/license fees even right done to pfd type and dated batteries in pfd lights. Twic card, drug testing, Just toention a few. Not trying to discourage you just good for thought.
  17. worked on boat today down by the genny.... Snow compacting and melting and river up to about old fast ferry building. A lot clearer than the other day.
  18. I have and can shovel the dock and boat deck before going out so some snow I can handle....ice and frozen water different story lol
  19. Jason, the DEC can't afford the creel census boat to be out as often as it should , there is no way to enforce or regulate something along that lines. Its truely not needed either...just looking for more consistent and accurate pieces to the puzzle.
  20. fins- we use a plastic 3 ring binder to keep our log in ...easy to store, take on and off boat as needed, whatever.
  21. I was heading to boat this morning driving down durand beach and saw alot of open water also - shore ice still protruding out along beach......soon very soon!
  22. 2 plows trucks and almost 3 hours of moving snow last week. we cleared the parking lot where the boat is stored all the way to the launch location! then Dug out and plowed the crane lift out. Getting very antsy to get out there.
