Spently Welcome to the board. You have come to the right place these guys are great with info and advise. You will learn a lot by reading and asking questions. I know I have learn so much from here. I too have been on this pond for over 25 years and things have changed from the 1980's no more waiting in lines for hours to get on the water in august But the fishing is really great right now. The fleas are only bad when the weather gets hot then they come to life But I use 30 lb Andie pink line and they don't really like that stuff so they are manageable. The wire line rig is a must I use a daiwa heartland 9'6 dipsey rod a daiwa SG47LC reel spooled with 1000 feet of 30 lb 7 strand mason wire and you are good to go.You are going to need a good set of rod holders for the wire rigs. They also use a copper rig that is the hottest rig out there today but I don't have one yet so some one should help you out. As far as flasher/Dodgers the green, white 8 in e chip flashers are good also the 8 in spin Dr's in the same colors are a good start. then you need to get some fly's. I personally run Atom-miks fly's you can go on his web site and you can see for yourself.I think the best thing to do is go and read the past post on tackle and open water stuff you can get alot of questions answered by just doing that. If not just ask and you will get your answer. I think now is a good time to ask it's going to be a long winter I am by far not an expert here but I hope this helps

Setting rods - What order?
Erbyjoe replied to Yankee Troller's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
For spring I set my probe rigger first so I can get a temp and to also set my speed.then I set the other ones then the wires goes out I don't have a copper or lead set up yet so I'm working on that I find that I had better luck with a rigger bite at the Bar last year so I only ran 1 wire rig.In the summer to fall the wires are in as soon as we power down to a trolling speed as they are clicking away we start the kicker motor and then the probe rigger goes in and then the other riggers. ONLY 92 day until spring   -

I'm jealous I would kill to get out there but my $$ is kind of low right now but it sounds like a great time I have to save my time and $$ for the bar this spring. Maybe next year we can get a couple of boats out there my boat would be perfect for the river. But I'm with you three amigo's in spirit.Like what has been said take pictures and have some fun . P.S.There is still febuary and march of next year to go so you never know

I second what Rich has said.I have the SG47LC with a 1000 feet of 30 lb 7 strand mason wire on it.There is a site that you can go to that you can buy by the foot and get a good price on wire I think it is Mc Master something I'm sure someone can post a web site for you.I put some 30 lb braid backing on the spool before I put the 1000 feet on it will keep the wire from slipping if you get a fish that runs you all out.I also have 9'6 foot diawa heartland rods for 29.00.great rods I also put a twill tip on them you should be able to get a few seasons on the tips that are on them now but when you see them wearing down change them so they don't break your wire off. Heartland Rods http://www.marinegeneralcatalog.com/ind ... tail&p=563 Twill tips http://www.lakemichiganangler.com/store/Twili_Tip.htm I live in Mass and they use heavy 50 to 60 lb wire with Jigs to troll for Stripers.I'm not sure that the 30 lb would be strong enough when dragged over the bottom all the time. But What do I know  I'm still in my learning stage after 30 years of trying to catch 40 lb Plus Good luck in your Quest.Make sure you have strong rod holder on the boat they put alot of pull with 300feet of wire out. PS the picture in my post is the set up I talk about

I really don't worry about the coated cable the SNT probe I have has a depth sensor in it so I get a pretty good idea where I'm at.My other riggers have just plain cable on it.It will effect The depth some what but I fish the marks I trust the meter to a point. You should join up on the Winni site good bunch of info about Winni and other lakes in the area.

Welcome to the site Danny. This is a great site for all the info you need on fishing the Big "O" I have cannons riggers on my boat scotty are also a good brand of riggers they are both very fast.I also have a furuno 620 fish finder and a lowrance GPS units on my boat if you can swing it buy each one separately so if 1 goes bad you at least have the other one if not Garmin has nice dual units I'm not sure about Lowrance they are having service issues right now. I run a Cannon SNT temp probe I like it but the hot temp probe out there right now is the Depth Raider nice little unit the replacement probe is a lot cheaper than Cannons.A kicker is nice to have in case the main motor dies at least you can get home and it will save you $$ on gas .I also fish Maine alot along with Winni in New Hampshire. Are you a member of fishlakewinni.com :?: Good luck on you new boat.
