  1. Makes me think twice too...awesome boats but I'm not sure about the new business model though.
  2. I use United Marine Underwriters: http://www.unitedmarine.net/ I've checked with Charter Lakes a couple of times and have found UMU to have lower rates for me at higher coverage amounts. That being said, I've heard nothing but good about Charter Lakes.
  3. We've just pulled the $1,000 name out of the hat and................ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .We are pleased to announce that Scott Fletcher (aka Rusty Rat) of Blue Moon is our winner of the $1,000 early bird drawing! Congratulations Scott!!
  4. You're not counting down the days till our trip to the Bar together are you Larry?? LOL
  5. Still two reels left - let's get em sold!
  6. Jeff, We typically thumb the spool when putting out both divers and riggers as it allows us the maximum control over how fast or slow we can put lines out. Another alternative that works well with divers is to simply loosen the drag to the point that it allows line to play out at the rate you want it to. Once you get to the desired depth just set the drag where you want it. It sometimes hard to get the drag just right when setting downrigger lines with some of the fast deploy rates that rigger manufacturers offer. If you have it set too tight you'll pop the release and have to start over. Set it too loose and you run the risk of a nasty backlash. Just be sure the spool tension knob is adjusted properly. As far as running a line off the back of a rigger weight goes, my personal feeling is that doing so causes the weight to perform erratically - meaning it won't track as straight as I'd like it to. We use Black's releases above our rigger weights and have been very pleased with that set-up. Hope this helps, Bill
  7. I did a little bit of research with regards to the male plug ends Sean mentioned. Cannon has redesigned them. The previous male plug ends were hollow and had a tendency to fail when the plugs weren't taken apart straight as I mentioned above. The new male plug ends are solid and have proven to be much more durable.
  8. Sean, Yes, Screwy Louie's does warranty work. Just a heads up - the plugs need to be pulled straight apart - rocking them back and forth or pulling them apart off-kilter as you try to separate them will eventually cause the male ends to fail. I learned the hard way too, but now that we know to pull them straight apart we haven't had an issue with any of our rigger plugs. Greg, Check your PM's - I have the contact name and number for the person at Cannon to talk to about this.
  9. Unfortunately all this means is that E15 is on it's way into the gas tanks of our boats at some point. Those of you who trailer will see it first if you fill up on the road. http://www.boating-industry.com/output.cfm?id=2716885
  10. I'm pleased to announce that Cannon downriggers has just come on board as a major sponsor of the WHI. Their support is greatly appreciated!
  11. Registrations are coming in each and every day. While we're not going to say just how many boats we have at this particular point, I think that our announcement that we're guaranteeing a minimum payout based on 50 boats as outlined above should give you a pretty good idea. From my perspective the response has been incredible, and I won't be the least bit surprised if it's a complete sell out. We'll adjust the payout schedule as more registrations come in, so expect payouts to get even bigger! As a reminder, TOMORROW (Jan 21st) is the LAST day to get your registration postmarked in order to be eligible for the $1,000 cash drawing.
  12. Spring is coming - only 85 days or so till splash down. Once this boat goes in the water this April it won't be available again until mid-June as we have a very busy spring schedule planned.
  13. Back to the top - the 21st is rapidly approaching....don't miss out on your chance at $1,000!!
  14. Happy Birthday Tom!
  15. The Chamberlain is a good release, especially if you're fishing on the Finger Lakes for smaller fish, but you won't go wrong at all using Black's - that's what we use almost exclusively.
