Personally, I'd give the 16# Troll-Rite weights a look-see. http://shop.gltsupplies.com/merchant2/m ... ct_Count=6 We switched from Sharks and have been very happy with the move. Nothing fancy with the Troll-Rites. They just work and cost about 2/3 as much as a Shark.

NYS announces that TOURISM has recently supplanted AGRICULTURE as the State's #1 industry, and then Patterson announces all these park closings. Is this guy BLIND or something?!?!? Oh, wait, TOURISM and AGRICULTURE are UPSTATE industries. I get it now.... Vince is absolutely correct...Patterson is cutting the economic engine right out from under us. Time for our "rent-a Governor", and all of the rest of our elected officials to go. As someone said earlier...it's time to flush the toilet! I say we form our own State...UPSTATE NY! Vince Pierleoni for Governor of UPSTATE NY. Patterson can keep that other cesspool downstate as far as I'm concerned.

Nice ride GB! Welcome to the Penn Yan cult. There are a few little things with the hull design that you have that you'll want to look out for. Water runs to the middle of the boat, not out the back like most boats. You're going to want to make sure that the bilge pump down in the cuddy is always working. That's where the majority of the water will accumulate. Also, Penn Yan did a terrible job with the weep holes in the stringers on these boats. You're going to want to keep a close eye on them, especially the ones in the outside stringers under the engines. They plug up with gunk easily and don't allow water to run freely under the stringer, and subsequently are very prone to rot. Make sure you keep them clean. Other than that, Penn Yan did a great job with the boats and I'm sure you'll love it!

Yeah they're all interchangeable. I have Bert's track on my boat and have run Bert's, Traxstech, and now Cannon holders in it with no problems.

We'll keep you in our prayers Ray.

Otters, hands down! We tried running regular boards with copper in big waves and have had them flip over and just wreak havoc on our set-up, tangling everything and ultimately breaking off the planer tow line. We've never had that problem with our Otters and we run coppers off of them in all kinds of big water.

Great shots Gray Ghost! Something new for 2010 from Humminbird are new color palettes. So if you like the colors of your Lowrance unit, you can have that on your Humminbird now. It's pre-installed on all new units and if you already own a Humminbird unit you can get the new color palettes with a free and very easy firmware update by registering your unit on the Humminbird site. Another new 2010 feature is "Switchfire" sonar. We began using that last year with great results. Here's a good description of it that I copy/pasted from another forum, along with a couple of pictures of one of the new color palettes: "Switchfire is the name given for a sonar technology that allows the angler the choose between #1-a screen presentation that is clean and doesn’t show smaller objects like zooplankton, algae blooms, small individual baitfish etc (THE CLEAR MODE of SWITCHFIRE) or a screen presentation that shows full detail of objects in the water. This screen has more information but the information also adds a lot of clutter on the screen (THE MAX MODE of SWITCHFIRE). This is the same technology that we released in a software upgrade earlier this year (TVG OFF/TVG ON). It just now has a name behind the technology (SWITCHFIRE). SWITCHFIRE: Clear - Is the high precision sonar system Humminbird has been using for many years. It features Humminbirds exclusive TVG (Time Variable Gain) software that features the ability to to display sonar returns equally with depth. So a return for a 5 pound fish will be the same at 10' deeps as it is at 100' depth. It also provides excellent performance in shallow water as the unit can automatically adjust power to provide the optimum readings with user having to shange settings and over power the unit in shallow water and losing bottom. The coverage is very percise making a smaller are for displaying baits in vertical fishing but when you use is very accurate and allows precision control. SWITCH FIRE: Max- provides the ability to show everything in the water including zooplankton, algae blooms, small individual baitfish. It also provides a greater area for vertical fishing and makes it easier for the user to see bait on screen. It also provides data display like competitive manufacturers. Making transition easier for users to make the switch and feel comfortable with a sonar system they understand. Best used in water depths over 10' due to variable band sonar control is less effective in shallow water as the Switchfire:Clear." Switchfire Clear: Switchfire Max:

Yes, that's how we did it and it worked pretty slick. We'll see what they decide to do with it for the future.

Yes, we used our 1157. But I'm told that running the final production model through an 1157 isn't an option at this time.

A quick Google search turned up the Cannon IntelliTroll for as low as $470. As for the new probe working with the old display, no that won't work. This is a completely new unit and is a major improvement over their old SnT unit. The probe itself is significantly smaller than the old probe. We did some pre-production testing of the new probe (but not the display unit) for Cannon last summer and we were pleasantly surprised with how well it worked. We were able to get consistent readings with as much as 250' of cable out. For a full pdf with all the specs, etc, I've posted it here: http://myblog.billyvsportfishing.com/

I've been using a paint marker to mark my copper. It stays in place unlike tape or shrink tube, but you do need to touch it up once in a while or it wears off. White seems to show up pretty well, especially when the copper begins to darken after some use. Here's the link: http://markingpendepot.com/index.asp?Pa ... D=347&HS=1

SOLD - Daiwa reels for sale
Billy V replied to Billy V's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Jim, The Accudepths are yours, pending payment. Let me know when you want to come down to pick them up. Jeremy, There's probably close to 900 feet or so on each of the ADP's and it's definitely in usable condition. We used them right up till the end of last season. -
I have 2 Daiwa ADP47LC reels for sale. They are both spooled with 30# AFW wire. I've owned them for 3 seasons now and each year they go back to Daiwa for reconditioning. You'll be hard pressed to find a used reel in better internal shape then these. They've been fabulous as a wire diver reel, but I've switched over to the new Saltist reel, so these need to go. $65 each. I also have 2 Daiwa AD47LC reels for sale. These are the original Accudepth reels, but again, they have been sent back to Daiwa on an annual basis for complete reconditioning. I'll let these two reels go for $40 each. Buyer to pay shipping costs or pick up locally in Ithaca, NY. Contact me at [email protected] or at (607)592-9012.

We run 30# AFW Camo wire. It has a smaller diameter than the 30# bright wire (.012 vs. .015). As a point of reference the AFW 20# wire (both bright and camo) has a .011 diameter. It might not sound like much, but that .003" less diameter will allow you to get your divers deeper.

Caught this one with Capt Andy Bliss of Chasin' Tail Adventures last January on the Salmon River. It was one of the coldest days I've ever been fishing. I don't think it ever got above -5 degrees or so. We guesstimated the fish at 18lbs. It was successfully released.

Thanks so much for all that you do for this sport and our fishery Tom. You deserve this and so much more.

Clarke, I rig my copper just like Fish Doc does, and I leave the Spro uncovered. But you need to check the connection to the backing frequently as it'll wear and could potentially break. When I'm letting the copper out I always stop at the Spro swivel and check it. If it looks frayed, I'll re-tie it while I have the copper in the water. I've often wondered if a piece of shrink tube would help to minimize the fraying of the backing material.

Too funny! Happy Birthday Larry!!

Yes, I have an Exceler on my noodle rod too, and love it. It's a great steelhead reel and is priced right.
