  1. I'd have to guess that what's going on is what Jax suggested. We had an old Lowrance with a transom mounted 'ducer that would do the same thing. As soon as it got choppy we'd lose bottom and get all kinds of vertical lines running through the screen. Once it calmed down again we had the screen back to normal. After messing with it for the better part of a season I re-mounted the 'ducer further away from my prop and it was a whole lot better. I now run a thru-hull 'ducer on my Humminbird 1157C and we never have that issue because the 'ducer is always in the water and away from all the bubbles that the props make. Transducers just don't like air bubbles and turbulent water. You might try moving it to an area on your transom that is less affected by turbulent water. If you're still having problems with customer service at Humminbird let me know and I can make a call or two to them for you. I'm kind of surprised that they hadn't gotten right back to you...they're generally regarded as one of the best with their customer service.
  2. There's definitely landlocked salmon and camping there Jay. Check your PM's.
  3. We hit the water at the crack of 1:00pm today and ran North for a bit. We set up in 100 FOW south of Milliken and within minutes William was hooked up and landed a Laker. For a 6 year old he's getting pretty good at handling a rod! The fish took a DW SS Feelin Irie spoon fished 60' down off our Mag 20. We snapped a quick pic and put the fish back so someone else could enjoy catching it as much as we did. We got set back up again and the same spoon fired again within minutes. This time Benjamin was on the rod and he did a great job bringing the big Laker to the net (OK, so Mom helped a lot, but he was stoked!). After that fish went back into the lake we turned around and trolled back South for a bit before calling it a day at 2:30pm. We had a few more releases but didn't manage to boat another fish. There were quite a few good marks on the Humminbird 1157C and it looks to me like the lake is setting up nicely. I wish we could have gotten out a lot earlier and stayed out longer, but the kids had a great time regardless, and that's what its all about. After we got back to the marina William & Ben caught about a half dozen huge bluegills and a few nice perch. All in all a fairly successful day of fishing for my boys!
  4. I had it towed professionally. I'd like to find a trailer for it so that I can tow it myself. If anyone runs across a used trailer that looks like it'll handle an 11' beam and 9,000 lbs please let me know!
  5. Hey Scott, you can add us to the list too!
  6. If you're looking for a leadcore reel that'll handle 10 colors of 27lb lead, 30lb Power Pro backing, and 50' of leader you'll need to step up in size from the SG47LCA. We run the Daiwa Accudepth Plus in 57 size and it fits 10 colors perfectly.
  7. Well, I live down here! Truth be told, my travel schedule for work has gotten very, very hectic and I've been gone a few nights/week for work for several months now and the travel is just going to continue for the foreseeable future. I miss my family (my boys are 6 and 4) and I just can't keep up the schedule of being gone so much....something had to give. For example, I leave in about an hour for a week in FL on business. The week after that I'll be in MA and CT for a few days. Given that my charter schedule the rest of the season is pretty light, I decided to move the boat to Cayuga Lake (5 mins from my house) so that I could be at home with my family on the weekends rather than running up to Point Breeze after being gone all week long.....family has to come before fishing. If I was single and didn't have kids, or lived a lot closer to the big lake than I do, there's no way I'd give up the Big Lake. But I'm not single and my family is my top priority. Luckily I have some really great friends up on Lake Ontario who have offered to let me run my charters on their boats. Thanks Rick, Jerry, and Andy. Your generosity has allowed me to be able to commit some more time where it really needs to be spent...at home with my wife and kids. So there you have it. We'll be up on Lake Ontario a few more times this season to run my remaining charters and maybe even for a Pro-Am. I plan to be able to get back up to Ontario on a regular basis again when life allows. For now, feel free to look us up...we're slipped at Finger Lakes Marine Service at Myers Point. I'm also going to try to be available this summer for a few Cayuga Lake charters if it fits into my schedule.
  8. Took my 4 year old son Benjamin and my Dad Jim out for a couple of hours on Saturday. We left Myers at 6:30am in a thick fog. We decided not to run in the fog so we set up right out front and trolled up the East side to Ross point and picked up a decent Laker in 100 FOW on a Green Dot Spinny/Sigg's White Crinkle fly fished off a Walker Deeper Diver out 210' on a #2 setting. We found a few hooks and some bait on the East side but decided to cut across the lake and troll back down past Taughannock to see if it was any better over there. Bad move as there was nothing to speak of on the screen over there. We came back across the lake at Myers and had a couple of downrigger rods pulling DW SS Gator and Die Hard spoons fire right out front again but didn't end up boating any of those fish. Benjamin was in the mood to head home so we called it a morning at about 9am and headed in for the day. Had we gotten out a bit later with no fog I wanted to run up past the Boy Scout Camp and give it a shot from there north. Any word on how guys did up that way yesterday?
  9. We've run our copper on Daiwa Heartlands for several seasons now and they've been a great rod for us. You really can't beat them for the price.
  10. It all depends on which Mag 10 you have. The Mag 10 HS riggers are rated for 20lbs. If they're older Mag 10's they may only be able to handle 12 or 13 lbs.
  11. Sponge....Shhhhhhh!!!! It's a TOP SECRET fish attracting computer that we've been testing. Seems to work pretty good...just throw a lure or two in the water and these Kings just jump into the boat! Just kidding with you....what you see mounted below the center rigger is an old DART system that the original owner had installed. It was a trip computer of some sort that I disconnected as soon as I got the boat. Rather than take the head unit off and have a big hole to fill, I just left it on there. BTW...in case anyone has been wondering how we like the new Cannon rod holders....in a word...SWEET!!!
  12. Welcome to the addiction Walt! Congrats on the great catch this weekend...it's nice to see the Kings showing up early back home!
  13. The fishing continued to be fantastic over the weekend in Wilson. On Saturday we had a steady pick all day and ended up with a great box of fish. The big Kings were up higher today than they've been lately and our riggers 40-60' down over 120-180 FOW pulling DW SuperSlim Die Hard, Glow Frog, and Da' Shiznit spoons were the best producers for us. Best down speed was 2.1-2.3mph. Later in the day we got our Deeper Divers to go pretty consistently too. They were loaded with both Spin Dr and Pro-Chip paddles pulling a variety of Sigg's Rigs flys....Glow Ghost, UV Wonderbread, and Stainless Steel were the best colors for us today. On Sunday I took my wife & kids out for a couple of hours and everyone got to play with a few fish. William caught the biggest King of his life on a DW SuperSlim Green Eye Glow Ghost fished 130' down: Benjamin caught the first King of his life on a Superslim Purple Clown fished off of a rigger down 50': And my wife Shelley caught her first wire line King on a Deeper Diver that was pulling a White Double Crush Glow Spinny/Sigg's Rigs Glow Ghost fly that we had parked deep at 350' on a .5 setting: We didn't fish on Monday but it sounded like things slowed down a bit.
  14. Hope you saved some for us for this weekend Jeremy! See you soon!!
  15. Happy 30th bro!
  16. We were pulling 2.1-2.5 down speed...I never pay any attention at all to SOG.
  17. Nice work Mark, thanks for sharing!
  18. What a great day in Wilson. We had divers out 375 & 350 on .5 settings pulling White Double Crush Glow Spinnys/Sigg's Rigs Glow Ghost flies firing right off the bat. We had an absolute fire drill for the first 45 minutes of the day and had 8 in the box before we ever got all of our rods in the water. Higher divers set on a #2.5 out 300' pulling NK watermelon spoons took their fair share of fish today too. Our deep rigger parked at 170' pulling a chartreuse Pro-Chip/Sigg's Ghost Pulse fly was a big-fish magnet, taking 3 kings over 16 lbs. Higher riggers set at 140' and 110' pulling DW Superslims in Dir Hard and Glow Frog patterns also did their fair share of the work. Even though the wind & waves didn't exactly cooperate today we still had a ball.
  19. Dave Duffin from Cannon Downriggers with a 24+ lb King that we took on Tuesday. The fish took a Green Dalmatian Spin Dr/Siggs Glow Ghost fly off of our 140' rigger. You gotta check out the screen that we were fishing over too. Even though we had a wad of fish under us it wasn't fast & furious. Just a steady pick.
  20. Thanks guys, we had a great time. I guess my rain dance on Saturday night wasn't enough to cancel Day 2.
  21. Great pictures Mark! Thanks for posting them. And yes, I definitely had butterflies in my stomach on Day 2.
  22. Congrats on the great finish Sean!
  23. Here's a few pictures from this past weekend's Scotty King of the Lake tournament. Kevin Jerge and his crew in Wilson did a GREAT job hosting this event. It was first-class all the way! Congrats to Irish Thunder for his win and to the guys on Cold Steel for storming back to take second place with an enormous box of Kings on Day 2.
  24. Thanks Brian. The probe is fine. We were just doing some testing on some stuff for Cannon today and couldn't run our Depth Raider. I got it all rigged up for tomorrow though!
