John, I missed that thread somehow over on GLA....GREAT JOB!!! Can't wait to see that beauty in the water next year....you should be VERY proud, that's quite an accomplishment. 20 years ago my Dad and I re-built my first Penn Yan (a 1972 19' Imperial as I recall) from the hull up and it came out fairly nice, but nowhere near that!
  3. Nice link Tom, thanks for sharing!
  4. Nice video Mark! Can't wait to get down there myself next year!!
  5. Congrats Ray!
  6. These are the MSRP's. I'm sure you'll find them for less at various retailers when they receive their orders. They should be available over the winter. Downrigger Mounted Rod Holders $249.99 Rod Holder – Dual Axis $99.99 Rod Holder – Single Axis $74.99
  7. November 9, 2008 DMU- 7H (Lansing, NY) Temp high 42 low 38 NW Wind 5mph Time on stand - 6:00-12:30 am It's on like Donkey Kong down here. Deer were moving all over the place. I saw several big bucks chasing does today. I had to see at least 40 deer today and 9 of them were bucks, 4 of which would have to go to the taxidermists if I shot them. It was like Disneyland today! Just wish I could've sealed the deal on the big 10 pointer that I missed. Tons of scrapes and rubs, but none of the deer responded at all to my grunts.
  8. Get well soon Bob!!
  9. I watched the first episode last night and I was amazed at how completely and utterly unprepared that entire crew was to do their jobs. Capt. Paul Watson really came across as a complete idiot to me for bringing 30 some people (most of whom had zero experience at sea) out into the arctic ocean without any prior training to chase down these whaling boats. And his "first mate"...does the guy have any idea what to do out there? He alone almost killed 4 people when they flipped their zodiac over as they tried to launch it for the very first time. Wow. Then some dummy whacks the helicopter rotor with a grappling hooks and almost destroys it. Perhaps some basic training on land before they left port might have been in order.  I'm going to keep on watching just to see the train wreck that ensues. I hope no ones dies.
  10. That's a great first buck! Way to go. I'd be pumped too!!
  11. A fun day this past August: First, Alex hooked up: Then Marcus doubled us up: Unfortunately no video of Marcus, but he did land it: Then Alex lands her fish to finish up our double: And here she is with her fish: NICE!!! Can't wait till spring!!!!!
  12. Jack, The track mount is designed for dipsy use. You should check them out, but also look at Traxstech. We have their tracks & holders on our boat and they're great! www.traxstech.com
  13. I love it too Jax...I get as excited as a kid the night before Christmas!!
  14. I'm curious what gas prices are near each of you. It's STILL $2.85/gal. here in Ithaca, but I saw it for $2.57 in Auburn on Monday. My sister called from Holland, MI last night and said that gas there is $2.09/gal. How much is it near you? Sure do wish the gas sitting in my boat didn't cost me $4.65/gal!!
  15. I was up in Fair Haven on Monday working on my boat. Man I miss fishing season! Is it April yet? Every year it seems that hunting and skiing do less and less to fill the void that fishing leaves me....
  16. Just a little something to help ease the pain of having the boat put away!
  17. If you pull on that rod any harder Jax you might just pull the rear end of that Lund right under water! LOL!!
  18. Nice videos Rob! I'd say you have yourself a great spot there!!
  19. I finally got the re-finished teak put back on the boat. Thanks to those of you who recommended Sikkens. It was exactly what I had in mind, and worked out great. Here's a couple of pics of the finished work:
  20. November 1, 2008 DMU- 7H (Lansing, NY) Temp high 58 low 47 NNW wind 5-10mph Time on stand - 6:45-10:30 am A really warm start to the day (58 at 6:00am) led to not a lot of deer movement first thing. Once the front came through at about 9am and the temps dropped the deer began to move. I had a 1.5 yr old spike come from dead down wind of me and walk directly under my stand (good to know my scent control measures are working!). I also saw a different 1.5 yr old spike and a 2.5 yr old 6 point come out of the pine thicket behind me. Neither of them seemed at all interested in any of my grunts. Both fed slowly past me and the 6 point bedded down about 50 yards from me. Also had a mature doe come in that I would've taken had she not completely busted me as I tried to get my bow off of the hanger. I saw a few more does feeding down at the other end of the power line. All activity was between 9-9:30 am. Needed some colder weather today.
  21. I'm not looking to start a "my rigger is better than your rigger" thread. I'm just curious about what riggers most of us are using. Please no product bashing!
  22. Cannon will be introducing a new aluminum rod holder set for their riggers in 2009. This fits on the swivel base under the rigger and offers a lot of adjustability. I'll have them on my boat next season so if any of you guys want to see them in person just look us up and I'll happily show them to you. Here's the pic I just got from Cannon the other day: They're also introducing a new track mounted rod holder. I believe that this was mentioned in the GLA Buyers Guide: I just put my boat away a few weeks ago and I already can't wait to get it on the water again!
  23. My personal rod of choice is the Daiwa Heartland. I run 8'6" rigger rods and also have Dipsy rods in 9'6" and 10'6". I might give some of the 7'6" rigger rods a shot next season too. I think they run for about $30 at places like Bass Pro, etc. I think they're the best rod for the money out there today. http://www.daiwa.com/Rod/detaillist.aspx?ID=93
