  1. Congrats indeed! We've been hearing reports of lots of Kings being taken out of Fair Haven too. This weekend alone we heard of a 22#, 19#, 15#, and our 12# King. So far we're off to a great start. Let's hope it keeps up!
  2. We had a LONG day on the water today...fished 5:30am till 7:30pm with a quick lunch break in between trips. We took browns, steelies, cohos, some killer smallmouth bass (that we put back to fight another day) and a Shark today. Yep, we caught our first real King of the season today, and it came as part of a crazy 3lb coho, 7lb brown, and 12 lb. King triple to end our day! What a Chinese Firedrill that was, and what a great fight on light line. Long leads, fluorocarbon, and the #47 KA-BOOM were the ticket for us today. We also took quite a few fish on an R&R Goby looking spoon fished off of both the riggers and the planers. We took quite a few of our fish right off the bottom with Goby presentations. Conditions were very tough with no color and no temp to speak of. We worked really hard for what we got today, but our persistence paid off. Here's some of the larger fish of the day. Most everything else was cookie-cutter size.
  3. WE'll be out from before sunrise till dark on Sat, so look us up Rod. Good luck with the shakedown!
  4. We run this and love it: http://store.humminbird.com/humminbird- ... 90-1V.html But this one also comes pre-loaded with all the Gold + and HotMaps Premuim charts and costs a lot less: http://store.humminbird.com/sonar-gps-c ... 60-1V.html Best price I've seen on the 782 was at BOE: http://www.byownerelectronics.com/store ... 668&page=1
  5. Welcome Treebeard. We fish out of Fair Haven regularly. Feel free to look us up!
  6. KA-BOOM makes a Goby pattern that we've ordered but hasn't gotten here yet...looks great: http://daveslures.com/GOBYS.html
  7. Sorry....there were 18 Gobies in that brown! Amazing. Thanks for coming along today Andy, I really enjoyed it.
  8. It was a lot of fun Linc! We'll do it again sometime. I forgot to mention in my original post that when Andy was cleaning the fish one of the small browns had 16 Gobies in it's belly, all less than 2" long.
  9. Today Andy Bliss from Cold Steel joined my Dad and I and our friends Rick and Linc for a trip out of Fair Haven. Nothing fast and furious, but we did boat a nice mixed bag of Coho, Brown, Rainbow, and even an Atlantic. I walked off and left my camera in the truck, so all I have is the pic I took of Rick's nice colored-up brown to show you. All the rest of the fish were cookie-cutter sized 2-3lb'ers. Andy snapped a few pics with his camera, so maybe he'll share them with us later. Water temps were 44-48 degrees and there was a pretty homogenized color to the lake. No real hot-spots to speak of, even off of creek mouths, etc. Black/Silver and that #47 Metallic Orange Specs KA-BOOM did most of the damage, and I think we got one fish on an NK28 SuperGlow Mulatto. Bright sun and calm seas were what today was all about...not exactly the best conditions for brown/coho fishing, but we still had a great time. We'll be back out after 'em on the weekend.
  10. I've been able to run mine both up and down when they're out of the water. Sounds to me like a problem with the connection to the battery.
  11. The Cannon unit has come a long way with it's reliability since it's inception. They've worked out the kinks and the system works great now. But, as Play Penn said, the big downer with them is if you lose a probe. A replacement probe is $399 or so. The light intensity and absolute depth features are awesome, but only you can determine if they're worth the price of a replacement probe. For comparison's sake, a replacement probe for a Depth Raider is about $189. I personally run a Depth Raider and love it.
  12. PP, Glad you had success with the Walker clincher set-up on your Depth Raider, but more glad to see that Jack now has the fever thanks to you!! We should all try and take a kid fishing with us a few times each year. Awesome job, and congrats on the trouble-free shakedown!
  13. Hey guys, I just got this in my email...Furuno prices are gonna go up: Furuno Price Increase in 1 Week, better buy now...FURUNO USA recently announced that all Furuno FCV Units and other popular models will be going up in price no less than $100 on April 21st. We will be selling at the current 2007 pricing while supplies last on "In-Stock" units. Products that will increase in price are the FCV-620, FCV-585, 1623 and 1715 Radars, all Navpilots, GP32, RD30, PG500 and a handful of other products. This will not affect Navnet 3D or VX2. Some prices will increase as much as $800. If you intend to buy a Furuno FCV-620 or 585 do not wait any longer - www.byownerelectronics.com
  14. Glad to see you guys got Bryn a fish! The boat looks great. Next time you're gonna be in FH let me know Rich.
  15. I was talking with Runnin Rebel the other night on the ShoutBox (awesome feature on the Pro version of LOU and reason enough to drop the $20 to upgrade your membership!) about fuel costs and how it's gonna affect our fishing. I live 65 miles from the lake and with my Dodge getting a whopping 14 mpg, it's starting to hurt to fill it up. I know lots of you guys live further away from the lake than I do (and trailer your boats) and I was wondering what you'll be doing to help offset the cost of fishing and getting to the lake? I know I won't fish any less, but I may decide to trade in that gas-guzzler for a car that gets 35mpg.

  17. Rod, I agree with Traveling Man. You'd probably be better off at one of the Marina's in the bay. Anchor Resort is almost exclusively fishing boats and there's also gas at the dock there. There's also Bayside, Fair Point, and Shawn's to choose from. Shawn's is the closest to the State Park if that's where you're staying.
  18. Good to hear that there are a few big boys mixed in with the browns already! Way to go guys!
  19. Now THAT'S what a 9lb brown looks like Yankee!! Way to go guys!!
  20. Mark and his son Alex are Henderson Harbor regulars who decided to give the brown trout in Fair Haven a try today. We had some really nasty thunderstorms roll through on Friday night and when we got out to the lake at first light the lake was pretty riled up and snotty. We didn't find the temps we had hoped for right away and the fishing was tough while we were in search mode. But once we found the warmer water and some nice marks we began to pick away at them fairly well. We found our best water way West of Fair Haven, almost to Port Bay! We took fish on #47 Metallic Orange Specs KA-BOOM Shiners, Black/Silver Rapala's, Black/Gold Rapala's, and the Northern King Mulatto. Best depths were 12-15 FOW, and 2.2-2.4 mph was our best speed. While it wasn't as fast and furious as we would have liked, we worked hard and ended up the day with a nice catch and the lake laid down pretty nicely by late morning so we had a comfortable ride for most of the day. The cold front that blew through on Friday night didn't help matters much, and I suspect that the fishing will only get better from here on out. Today's fish were all smaller than we got into last weekend but they still made us smile. After a rough start it ended up being a great day to be out on the water and we made a couple of new friends to boot. What more can you ask for? Man, I love this!! Here are a couple of shots from today:
  21. I'd highly recommend that you look at the Furuno 620. I have the 585 which is the same as the 620, just with a larger screen. It's amazing. For my money Furuno makes the best fish finders on the planet. Raymarine is a very close second. For rod holders, check out a Traxstech track mount system. just mount the track to the boat then take the holders off when it's family time. They're bomber. www.traxstech.com. You won't go wrong with either a Moor or a Depth Raider. they use the same technology and both work well. We run a Depth Raider and love the smaller display with the big numbers. Hope that helps! Bill
  22. So you're finally becoming a brown fisherman? NICE!! Maybe that'll help you out in a Pro-Am someday when the Kings aren't around! But that fish was only 7lbs at most.... Even still, it was a nice fish.
  23. Camera tricks?!?!? Nah...it was just a nice plump brown. As I recall it, Yankee was so excited about that fish that he was trying to add a pound or two to it...you know how it goes... I say "Nice fish. What is it, 6 or 7 lbs?". Yankee says, "6 or 7lbs? Are you nuts, that's all of 9 or 10lbs!" :)
  24. I put waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy more than I'll ever need on each of my planer spools Jax. I honestly don't remember where I bought it.
  25. We run 200# test power pro spectra to our big boards Jax. It makes the releases slide SOOOOOO much better down the line than traditional dacron tow lines.
