  1. Time to revive this old thread...those of you who have the 585, can it be mounted to the roof of a hard-top? The pictures I've seen of it make me think that it's designed for dash-mount only, which would be a bummer.

  2. I've called Steve's and they couldn't give me an estimate to have seats & bolsters re-done. They wanted me to bring the boat in so that they could look at it. I'm not about to have my boat trailered over there so that they can give me a ballpark figure. Can anyone recommend someone else who can give me some sort of idea of what it might cost? I find it hard to believe that they couldn't give me a price range given how common Penn Yan's are in this area.

  3. The newer Daiwa SG47 LCA is a great choice (roughly $95). Another good one is the Shimano Tekota (roughly $170). I use the Daiwa's exclusively and love them. The older Great Lakes are a good reel, but yours may just need a re-furb.

For what it's worth, I tested two of the new Daiwa Accudepth Plus reels on my wire rods this year and they held up fantastically...for $49 you'd be hard pressed to find a better quality reel.

  4. RR, that would be fun. We need some rain though!! I used to stomp around fall and six mile creeks in the fall too. Let me know when you're going and if my schedule permits I'd love to come along!

I love this time of year too...I just miss trolling the big lake in my boat, that's all!

  5. I have several Sage, G Loomis, Orvis, and St. Croix fly rods. Before we had kids, I used to spend countless hours in the tribs chasing steelies. My favorite rod for them is my 10' 7wt St. Croix Legend Elite...to my eye that rod is a work of art! Nowadays I get up a handful of times each year, but not like I used to. I think that this discussion may have re-inspired me to get back up there a few more times this fall!

  6. My boat has been out of the water for a couple of weeks and I've been jonesing to fish it some more. I guess I didn't get my fill this year. Even though I have bowhunting and skiing to keep me busy all fall & winter, it's still gonna be a long off-season. Who else is bummed that the season is over? What do you guys do over the fall & winter to keep yourselves occupied?

  7. I have a stainless steel rocket launcher on my boat, but the brackets that hold it in place broke. I have it back up, but I'm not very happy with the way it was designed. I'd like to have a good stainless guy take a look at it and see if we can make it stronger. Does anyone know of anyone who does quality stainless steel work of this kind?

    Thanks!

  8. PY88,

Glad I could help. That 400' area sure was loaded with fish!

    Rich D,

I'll definitely be looking for reports to help me through the next few weeks, so keep 'em coming!

    LG,

I'll definitely keep that in mind. Might be a fun way to help with the fishing jones! Let us know how you did today. My guess is that with the calm weather we've has, the fish will be in a bit closer than we found them on Sunday.

  9. Started out right in front of the chute in 30 FOW. Found a few marks but the weeks worth of wind had temps at 64 degrees top to bottom and we couldn't get them to go. We started working our way out and had a blank screen and 64 degrees as deep as 150' all the way out to 380 FOW. Once we hit 380, there was 55 degree water down 150' and there were lots of marks and bait. We worked 380-425FOW for the rest of the day and had consistent action there. We ended up with a very nice mixed bag of silver & dark Kings, Steelhead, and even a Smallmouth Bass that took a spoon off a rigger down 120'. Our most productive riggers were at 150' and 165' and our wire divers kept us busy when they were set at 380' & 450' on a #2 setting. That gold Northern King NBK I've been running lately in both green & yellow fired multiple times for us, and our best paddle/fly was a green holo/crushed glow Spin Dr. pulling a Siggs Rigs Green Crinkle fly.

Wish we could've gotten back out there this morning. After a week's worth of wind I'd guess that the fishing is gonna be pretty hot today & tomorrow out where we were yesterday.

Here's those two Northern King gold series NBK's that have been so hot for us the past month or so:

When we got done fishing we pulled all the gear off the boat and took it over to be stored for the winter. What a great season....I can't believe it's done for us.

    ;(;(

  10. LG,

Hope you're not planning on going tonight & tomorrow...the marine forecast is looking pretty scary. Gale force winds, waves 9-12 ft! Better check this out before you leave:

    LJ,

Glad you got into a few. We really hit them hard on spoons both days. Sounds like your buddy might be hooked for life now! Don't you just love the look on their faces the first time they hook one?

  11. We had a couple of very good days out of Fair Haven over the weekend. Spoons were really hot for us both days. They were steady producers for us all day both days. The Northern King Gold series NBK's in green and yellow were fantastic, and we did very well on an R&R watermelon w/grape dots and a Dreamweaver super-glow froggy, all off the riggers back 15-30' behind our Sharks down 50-70' in 70-125 FOW. The fly bite was spotty. We ran them on the wire divers out 180-210' on a #2 setting. Sometimes we'd get three or four hits on them in a row and then at other times they'd just sit there without a touch for hours. The Green Hypnotist and Blue Dolphin were the flies that worked best for us.

There are lots of fish out there!
