We got out for a couple of hours on Friday night and boated about a dozen browns. We fished both east and west of the chute in anywhere from 5-15 FOW. Dave's KA-BOOM shiners in black/silver and firetiger were the best sticks for us, and Dreamweaver glo frogs and a prototype NK watermelon w/grape dots were the best spoons. On Saturday, we fished for about 5 hours and just murdered the browns. We had a few coho's mixed in too. From the moment we put the first rod in the water until the time we called it a day we couldn't keep all of our rods in the water. It was a total Chinese firedrill all day long. Dave's KA-BOOM shiners ruled the sticks and just about every color we put out took fish. The same NK & DW, plus an orange R&R bleeding belly were the best spoons for us. The water had a nice color to it and we found temps around 43-46 degrees. I barely had time to snap any pics, but here a the three I snapped..unfortunttely of some of the smaller fish we took. Bigggest brown for us was just about 6lbs today. We had coho's in the 3-4lb range. Best brown trout fishing I've seen in years...better get up here if you can!

Fair Haven 4/28 shakedown
Billy V replied to fishshack's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Nice day Al! We had a similar day...incredible. Will you be coming back to the marina this year? -
Mark, I had an X-105C on my last boat and really liked it a lot. After the 105, Lowrance came out with the 107C, which just had a bigger screen than mine. Several guys I know have that one and like it too. I was told by the Lowrance rep at the Triple S show that the 515 is the replacement for the 107. Plenty of power, a great high-visibility screen, and the price is within your budget. The other option at that price point that I would definitely look at is the Furuno 620. Just a tad bit more than you wanted to spend, but definitely a great unit. Hope this helps. Bill

Thanks guys, I'm pretty excited about the boat. Dan, I'll be fishing the derby on Saturday only. I'll keep an eye out for someone following me! -

Thanks again guys. Needless to say, I'm pretty happy with it. I owe a big thanks to L&M, who went way out of his way to provide me with inside info on the boat. I really appreciate your help Hank. Ray, that hook sharpener didn't spend more than 2 minutes where it was. It's safely tucked away up inside the cabin now! And it's always good to have Dad out on the water with me. -

Thanks guys. It's a 1990. I completely lucked into it. And I can't believe how well taken care of its been. -
Picked up the new ride in Sodus today and ran it back to Fair Haven. All went well. Spent most of the afternoon getting the boat in it's slip with new dock lines, etc. I was surprised how much stuff came off the old boat and how long it took to get things situated. Here's a shot of the boat at rest in it's slip. Of course, we couldn't spend all that time working on the boat without taking it out fishing for a bit. We spent about 90 minutes on the lake and boated 4 nice browns. Fish came on Black/Silver, and firetiger Dave's Ka-boom shiners, and on some orange bleeding belly R&R spoons. Water has warmed up a bit. We found 48-52 degree water in 9-13 FOW. Still some color in the water too. Here's Dad and Jay with the first fish we took on the new boat: I'm really glad to have the boat in the water and ready to go. I was going nuts the past couple of weeks being boat-less.

I have two sections of 48" brand-new still in the box Traxstech (formerly Pursuit) track. I was going to use the track on the boat I had originally intended to buy, but that deal fell through. I don't need it on my new boat. The 48" sections sell for $84 each through Traxstech. These are the standard silver finish. I'll let these sections go for $75 each. Prefer local pick-up, but will ship if need be. Buyer will need to pay for all shipping charges. PM me or email me at [email protected] if you're interested.

Did you get the overheating problem worked out YT? That doesn't sound good bro.... And must be you got the kinks worked out on the bass rig?? -
Way to go Eric....sure wish I was out there with you today. We had a successful sea-trial on the new boat today, so that makes up for not being able to fish. Should be back on the water next week sometime.

Fair Haven 4/14 and 4/15
Billy V replied to Richard's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
RIchard, Nice talking to you on the VHF on Saturday. Glad to see you got into a few fish. With this snow & rain we've been getting lately, I'd guess that the brown trout fishing will remain pretty good close to shore for a bit. -
Sporty start to the morning with some healthy waves, some sea-sickness on board, but we stuck it out. Glad we did, becasue we hit the browns real hard for a couple of hours. At one point we had 5 on at once! After our slow start, it ended up being an insane brown trout day. Hot sticks were Dave's Kaboom shiners in firetiger, and J-9 Chartreuse Rapalas. Fish ranged from 3-8 lbs. Glad we could get out before this storm hits 'cuz I needed a fishing fix!!

Man, we can't catch a break. I just put my boat in last night, but after I fish tomorrow, I'm gonna pull it back out, re-winterize, and drop the canvas to brace for this mess. :? :? :? :? :? :?

I splashed my boat tonight and ventured out onto the lake for a bit. The water looked fantastic...brown on shore and pea-green beyond that. Water temps were 39 in the green water and 42-43 in the brown stuff. I marked a bunch of fish during my time out, so I'm thinking that if the weather holds, it ought to be a really fishy weekend. Downrigger releases with a Moor or DR
Billy V replied to Yankee Troller's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I'm gonna have to check when I get back up to my boat again, but I could swear that I have my blacks run just above the ball (below the probe) like I do on all my other riggers. Maybe I'm missing something here, but I don't see why you need to make special rigs to put your release above the probe when all you really need to do is clip it to the leader below the probe and then on the ball. Now that I'm thinking about it, I really can't remember where I have it. I can tell you this..however I have it rigged, I've never had a line tangle in my probe. -
Mee too, on just about the same shedule as YT....we should hook up and tag-team the fish!
-
Thanks Eric!! Can't wait to see 'em!
-
Mick, Just be sure you DON'T ask Yankee Troller how he runs the Habanero. If you do, you're just asking for a day of no fish! Just bustin' ya YT! I seem to remember a day when you caught a fish on my boat on a Habanero and then refused to have your picture taken, so you can't say that you've never caught a fish on one....I've witnessed it myself!

My springtime favorites for browns are: OLD style Jr. Thundersticks in silver/black. silver/orange J-7, J-9 Rapalas in GFR, silver/black, chartreuse/white/black Dave's Kaboom Shiner in Firetiger, silver/black, chartreuse/red

I've had a Moor for several years now and love it. I've also heard good things about the Depth Raider. To be honest, I really like the red analog needle of the Moor even though the display does look a bit dated compared to the newer Depth Raider. Either one will work great for you.
