  1. We can all guess that fish are 1, 2, or 3 years old on a boat, but were they 2yr olds we were catching? Only labs with samples off of fish can identify that. Here's a thought. How about some of that data the DEC takes samples at each tournament. No tourney team is trying to bring in 1 and 2 year old fish. You have the best guys out there targeting the best fish. You bring up a great point, and I bet money there are no projects or research being done on this. One of the most lucrative fisheries in NYS and no one is curious why size is declining. Are we not taking the right genes at the hatchery? Is it diet related? Is constant inbreeding causing this? With all the colleges in NYS we couldn't get one involved in trying to figure this out?
  2. Doesn't matter if you catch jacks in the tribs or not. They are there and the DEC WILL use them. You hope all you want to get back to bigger Salmon, but I provided you with almost 20yrs of data. If you can't see a declining size with that I don't know how else to show it. There's no reason we can't have great fishing and big fish.
  3. We've been running the FishUSA Stealthcore for a while now. We used to use the Suffix stuff it wasn't bad, but it was really bright.
  4. Are you 100% sure about this? I'm not asking to close down every trib. I just want something done to the one that services this WHOLE fishery. You don't think the bigger fish yanked out of the system (most times illegally) prior to getting to the hatchery hasn't affected the gene pool at all? It's not about egg take quota. It's about breeding the biggest fish in the system with each other. You can get 100 charter boat captains on here and 95% will tell you this season was amazing. Me, the last two seasons have been embarrassing with the smallest size Salmon ever in the system. Here's some LOC history for the 10th place Salmon over the years. So, what have we done in recent years? We've cut stocking becasue of baitfish shortages, yet the DEC is willing to increase stocking in 2024 becasue of good looking baitfish assessments. However, our Salmon are the smallest ever? Don't you think if there was this surplus of GOOD bait in the lake our Salmon would be gorging? MEDIAN Fall 2023 27.05 2022 27.15 2021 29.03 2020 28.04 2019 29.12 2018 2017 30.08 2016 32.01 2015 29.02 2014 30.04 2013 33.04 2012 32.09 2011 32.04 2010 34.06 2009 31.15 2005 30.01 I sure hope this is not the case, but they are also the ones that tell us sperm from jacks is really potent and performs well. I am 100% against the use of sperm from jacks to feed this system.
  5. There is a reason why egg take is done at a specific time. It's temperature related to produce the best eye up. Boats in front of a river, in my opinion, do very little to hurt what is running the river. Those fish have to bite to be caught in open water. There's no way to troll over to the largest fish and catch it out of the system like you can do fishing the river.
  6. The state, and towns that surround these tribs, have allowed this type of behavior since the Salmon were planted in this lake. Generations of anglers have treated this fishery with little to no respect whether it is taking fish un-ethically or leaving trash behind. They all turn a blind eye so they can make a buck. The antics that happen during this season are displayed all over social media now, and it makes it even easier to watch this compared to in the past. I know I'm on the extreme end of the spectrum, but I feel like the Salmon River, our only source for egg take, should be shut down until egg take is over. Not becasue they cant reach their quota, but becasue our best specimens and genes are being yanked out of the river every season. We see declining Salmon weights, but no one can put their finger on why. With most of the river walkable larger fish are easily spotted and taken out of the system. I'm not for closing down all the tribs during Salmon season, but the one that supports this fishery should be managed better. During this same timeframe large trout are being taken out of the system. Again, the only place they take eggs for Steelhead on the lake. Is the concern for the small towns of Pulaski and Altmar for 1-2mos a year greater than what this 12month fishery provides?
  7. We disconnect the negative leads at the marina. If it's a good battery and fully charged it should be fine over the Winter.
  8. Usually it starts Columbus Day, but it's really temperature related. Egg take at certain water temps give them a better results for eye-up.
  9. I tried to look back at previous years satellite imagery, but I couldn't find past years imagery. How did you come up with this conclusion?
  10. Next years fish. If you can get to them you may pull a few.
  11. The Amish BEEFY bags last a loooooong time. That's what we use.
  12. Correct, it's a 1993 Tiara 3600 Open. It's powered by a pair of Crusader 502XL engines. Beam is similar to the Trojan in the 13' range.
  13. Do you run a kicker?
  14. What type of steering is in the boat? I'm assuming cable?
  15. Do you run a kicker? We install mechanical AP's often enough. I can help you with a bill of materials, and even drop ship those items to you.
  16. That's GOLD! Thank you for that link.
  17. These came with a boat we purchased. There are (4) sets of doubles and (3) singles. $900 P/U or buyer pays for shipping.
  18. This unit is currently on the boat we purchased and will be coming off sometime this month. It's currently hooked to a 1kw thru-hull that I'm sure I can't save. I can help you with a transducer for this unit through the marina. This unit needs to be flush mounted unless you can find a gimbal mount for it. - $500 P/U or buyer pays shipping
  19. These items are currently on the boat we purchased and will be coming off by the end of September. The Rayamarine C 80 has a chart card in it for the Great Lakes. The radar spins up and works. - $1500 P/U only
  20. We're excited to announce we received our "new to us" boat this weekend. We chose to go a little newer and bigger. We're excited to rig this 36' Tiara Open over the Winter.
