One thing you can do is come off of plane and stay about 5mph to deploy your coppers. Going that fast will get them out fast. When they are out drop your boards in let them out and clip on your copper. After those are set you can deploy the rest of your spread. Don't drop your boards in doing 5mph!

Which Dipsy color?
Yankee Troller replied to ducks517's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
What were those pink ones I saw in your cabin? LOL My favorite is metallic Purple, and my brother loves his Glow Froggy. We also run black and Clear, but good luck finding a clear one that wont break apart on you. -
Running 4 Wires
Yankee Troller replied to snichols's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
You can use 4 of the same size dipseys, or run mags on your lower divers. We kinda got outta the mag dipsys and went with all the same divers. Rule of thumb is to keep the settings 1.5 apart. We will run one side of the boat on a 1 and a 2.5 while the other is on a .5 and a 2 until we find the hot set-up. Let them out one at a time. We also will keep the low and high divers a minimum of 50' apart on the counters. It doesn't matter which one you let out first. If we are letting out the high diver, and the low diver is already in place sometime we will grab the low diver and run it down the chute while we hold the high diver rod out to the side and let it creep out. If we are letting the low diver out, and the high diver is already out we will let the low diver out on a loose drag or down the chute. Also, keep the boat straight when your deploying these. After they are deployed and settled into place you can make the hardest turn and have no issues with them tangling. Lastly, if you are running copper off boards try not to use high settings on your divers because your diver will travel off to the side enough to get caught into your copper on turns. Low Diver - closest to the back of your boat High Diver - closest to the front of our boat -

Lets debate......200' copper vs 10 color core!
Yankee Troller replied to Yankee Troller's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Well, so far the poll is dead even. -
Core has always been known for its smooth up and down water column changes while making turns. However, copper on a turn will sink like a rock. Lately, I have been seeing more people running 200' coppers over a 10 color core. We don't have a 200' copper, but we run a 10 color when we want to achieve that 40-50' depth.

Running spoons from different manufacturers
Yankee Troller replied to chinook266's topic in Tackle and Techniques
At least until all of mine get taken! Three mags are left in my box, and I have searched high and low for more, but with no luck. Back to this thread.....we run all brands of spoons. We also have many times when more than one brand is down. As one person said in this thread "the fish don't know that rule." The big three spoon manufactures all have speed tolerances that fit the speeds we troll at IMHO. -

Traxstech also makes the old vector style which is a retro-fit for your Scotty's. We had them on our Scotty's.

If you can't get rooms at Lakeview Motel, The Wilson House, or the Wilson Boat Yard you will have to head into Lockport, which is about 20 minutes away.

Well, we did the boarder crossing thing all weekend long. When we arrived at Dalhousie I called in. Gave them my Documentation number and they had me on file along with everyone that went with me the last few trips. We had one new guy we had to get into their system, but it was painless. When we crossed back over the boarder while fishing I called in, and was instructed to call back when i got to my dock. We did this each day (because we fished in American waters). It was so easy! Took less than 5 minutes each time. Now, to get back into my country. That was another story. We had to go to the video phone. The questions were re-donk-u-less. Finally, they turned on the video phone and checked out all our passports and asked everyone a bunch of questions. Took about 15 minutes. Other than that it was not a bad experience. Others didn't call and get a new arrival number while fishing and weren't hassled. I just wasn't willing to pay $1000, so we made sure they knew we were in the country.

I made the mistake of getting a 16gb card. right now I have 53gb's worth of video, and no computer or software to edit it. The camera takes great video though. can't wait to get a computer in the next few months to knock out some great clips.

Practice - Not Much! We weren’t able to fish Thursday because of our day jobs. We knew weather was coming, so we ran over to Port Dalhousie Thursday evening. We went to bed with hard NW winds, and woke up to the same. By 11am we could see the wind had died down a little bit, and we made the decision to get out for a few hours of fishing. We rode the WN winds down to the bar where we eventually found some fish. The NW winds had the green river water pressed along the shoreline, so our bite was on top of the bar. We didn’t catch anything big, but we had a starting point that we would try to dial in as the weekend passed by. Saturday (Day 1) - We left in much of the same NW winds experienced on Friday. We made the 30 minute trek to the Niagara Bar in a washing machine of boat wakes, and the 3-5’ waves from the NW winds. Our program for the morning was 2 wires pulling Walker Deeper Divers, our three Cannon DT10’s, five color cores off the Big John Otter Boats, and a 10 color which we would run down the chute in varying lengths. We had a 100% spoon program with our Northern King Sea Sick Waddlers, Northern King Lazer Spooks, and Northern King Mulatto’s being our MVP’s for the day. We had a great morning. When you found a few kings you had to work that area. If you got out of them you caught Lakers. We worked from 45’-150’ on the bar, and eventually changed our program when our wires got red hot. We pulled the five colors and went double wires on each side. That bite went for a few hours and it was crazy good! We easily did over 40 fish, and we knew we had one 15lb fish we needed to cull, but it just never happened. A lot of great fish for next year out there! We did the weigh in thing and saw many similar boxes. At the end of day one we were 21st and 8lbs out of the top ten. Sunday (Day 2) - We woke up to calm waters FINALLY! The run to the bar was great! We had YT3 cranking at 26-27mph. I think we even passed a Lund!?!?!? We were pumped to get lines in the water! We started in the same water on top of the bar, with the same program as Saturday morning. The picture wasn’t as good, although we did grab a few fish. We slide out because we could see the river water had pushed out (after being laid along the shoreline from the NW winds). When we got off the ledge we started marking more fish, and it was game on. We pulled the 5 color cores and replaced them with 300 coppers, and the ten color was replaced with a 600 copper, which we varied the length of in 100’ increments. Coppers were HOT! A Stinger Hawg Wild on one, and a Northern King Sea Sick Waddler on the other. Our Cannons took quite a few fish too. The Northern King Sea Sick Waddler was definitely the MVP of the day. On our 600 copper a Dreamweaver Spin Doctor in Blue Angel pulling an A-TOM-MIK UV Blue Dolphin was going consistently. In an attempt to pick up some bigger fish we dragged bottom with a White Dreamweaver Spin Doctor pulling an A-TOM-MIK Sweet Pea. It pulled many fish from 100’ to 200’ down, but they just weren’t the fish we were looking for. We knew we had a better box on day two, but we still had one Salmon that was 15lbs, and we just couldn’t cull it. When everything was said and done we climbed up the standings, but not enough for a check. We finished 15th out of 52 boats. Moral of the story………the fishing is GREAT on Lake Ontario right now. From Jordan to Oswego MANY kings are being caught. Get out there and enjoy this great resource!

Not even close.....probably one of the better cleaning stations on the south shore.

You don't need Twilli-Tips or EXPENSIVE roller rods for wire fishing. We ran rods with neither for many years and never had fraying problems. Does a roller rod or just a simple Twilli-Tip take some of the resistance of the wire coming through that first eye of the rod away? ABSOLUTELY! However, it's not needed for someone getting into wire fishing. I hear horror stories all the time about lost gear on wire due to breaking off, and fraying issues. Here is my two cents. Stick to a good 7 strand wire like Mason or Malin. We use AFW, but it pig tails very easily because of it's thin diameter, and for a beginner I wouldn't recommend it. If you are anal about one thing on your boat make it your wire combos. DON'T let any bit of slack get into that wire. That's where kinks come from. Check your wire before every trip to make sure there is no kinks in it.

Yes they do.
