I'd put on 600, and mark it every 50' or 100'. This way you can be versatile and run it at multiple depths down the chute without having to buy multiple combos or reels.

ridgeback weight
Yankee Troller replied to pokepole39's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
When we first bought them we watched a few fish follow for quite some time. I even watched a Coho go from 15' to 90' to hit my rigger in a Niagara Pro Am event. I don't think they are going to get fish to jump into your boat, but sometimes changing up a dead program with one has helped a few guys. It's one of those things we can't prove, but if it works then roll with it. -

What do you consider a wall hanger?
Yankee Troller replied to Chas0218's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I've been fishing on this lake for 25+ years, and I've seen a lot of fish, so my opinion might be skewed. Fun topic though, because everyone has their own definition of "trophy." I know mine is on the smaller side of the scale when it comes to whitetails. Salmon - For lake fish I have one on the wall that was 32lbs. Next one will have to be 35+lbs. If I were to mount a Fall run fish it would have to be 35+lbs. Steel - For lake fish I have one just over 17lbs on the wall, so the next one needs to be larger than that. I want a 15+lb stream fish for my wall badly. Brown - We screwed up here and tossed back one around 17/18lbs last Spring, and had a customer eat a 17lb fish last Spring. Basically, the next Lake run and Stream run Brown over 15lbs is going on the wall. Lake Trout - Another screw up last season. We caught a 24lb Laker in the Sandy Creek Shootout. No ice on board, and it was an all white ghost by weigh in skewed my view on getting a mount of this done. So, the next Laker over 21 or 22 pounds will get a seat on my wall. I have a 6.5lb Largemouth on the wall from Conesus, but I could never get a Smallie from Erie over 5.7, so a 6+lb Smallie is also on the hit list. I'm still waiting for my 40" Pike through the ice. -

Awesome fish! Congrats! -
Perfect! Enjoy your trip! Lots of good fisherman down there!

IF you wanted to go with a thru-hull, and your a trailerable boat, go with the Airmar B 60. Thru-Hulls are much nicer ducers in that you can see a whole lot more when your cruising. However, run what they gave you if you want a transom mount ducer. No need to spend the extra coin!

Yup, our friend Finders Keepers is putting it on. He will even show you how it's done in his tournament boat!

FYI.....I'd bump that trip back a few months of your going for just Salmon. Although, there have been odd Springs when a decent King bite develops in OZ.

6 rod set up - how to run?
Yankee Troller replied to slapshot's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I've never used these Torpedo's I just think you can take two wire rods and be so versatile. You can either run two more divers, or run Torpedo's. -
6 rod set up - how to run?
Yankee Troller replied to slapshot's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I am not affiliated with Torpedo, but they make different size torpedo weights. With wire line you can fish them from 10' to over 100'. We carry a pair of coppers on our boat from 300' to 700'. That's 9 copper rods. With the Torpedo approach you just need two rods and two sets of those Torpedo weights. They have a dive chart already documented, so it cuts that learning curve down considerably. Run one off each otter boat to get them away from your wires and riggers just like we do with copper line set-ups. One word of caution would be to deploy those things SUPER slow. You don't want them dropping into your wire or your riggers. The size you would use depends on what depth you want to achieve. Kind of like if I want to fish a flasher at 80' I know I need my 400' copper. If you want to hit 80' look on their chart and choose the right Torpedo, and the amount of line they recommend. -

Sweet! Nice job! -
For the last few seasons we have been running 15lb McCoy Mean green and leader it down to 8-10lb McCoy Flouro 100. The heavier mono allows us to use these rods for Coho and Steel, and it allows us to throw on a few colors of lead if necessary. Another nice thing about the heavier mono is your baits wont dive as deep allowing you to get in shallower on those high traffic days or clear water. However, out east I am told there is no way this set-up would work as the water is really clear and fish are line shy. Works well from Sodus to the West for us.

6 rod set up - how to run?
Yankee Troller replied to slapshot's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
If I were you I would run 2 riggers with cheaters, two divers, and buy two more wires, but not for divers necessarily. That extra set of diver rods can be used to pull 4 divers, or what I would do is take those two and use them with torpedos out on your big boards or inlines. This method would give you riggers, divers, and junk lines. With two guys this is a pretty solid presentation you can cover a lot of water with. -
What Copper releases
Yankee Troller replied to bout time's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Your on crack if you think your pulling a 450 or 600 with an inline. You need something to pull that copper out far enough to the side where it wont get into your wires on turns. -
A few of us met at the Genny for a little side bet action Sunday morning on some Spring Brown Trout. Both boats took the run East to Irondequoit and set lines. Instantly, it was a blood bath. Some spots would yield doubles and even triples on Browns fishing flat lines with stick baits. We were running our baits 100’ behind the boards, and we probably could have shortened it with the amount of color in the water. Our best sticks were black/silver and firetiger. Our boat made one pass from Irondequoit to the cross and we did 15 fish, but they were all 3-5lb fish, and that wasn’t going to win us any money. We had to turn before we got too far down the shoreline. The SW wind was picking up and it was getting snotty on that shoreline. So, our decisions were to pick up and run back to Irondequoit and fish that same stretch with 8 other boats, or make a move to calmer water and possibly larger fish. Well, we made the move, and it was the wrong move. We went all the way to Braddock’s to find chocolate milk from the point to the Genny. By that time we knew the SW winds were making the troll in our morning waters tough, so we stuck it out in the mud and never took a shot. Lesson learned - don’t leave fish to find fish! Regardless, we had a blast! Can’t wait for this weekend!

Yup, stay away! There isn't room for both of us!

We ran auto oil filters all season, but we are changing them out after every 10 trips. We have been running the Fram filters with no issues, and that came off a recommendation by them Rochester Trojan guys.
