Out of I-Bay again
Yankee Troller replied to rolmops's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Sounds like a lot of fun! -
I guess it can't hurt, but I would be curious if you achieve the depth of the full length with all that mono in-between colors.
-
Congrats on the buck!
-
Great job!

The biggest PITA would be the leadcore dragging in the water from the rod tip to the planner board.

NEVER let any slack when dealing with wire. ALWAYS keep pressure on that wire to maintain itself so it wont coil or kink. A lot of people new to wire break off rigs because they aren't anal enough about this.

Unfortunately, I think your going to see more of these shows disappear. The crowds just aren't there anymore. Not to mention when you want to research something or find something the first place people are going now a days is the internet.

Ya'll know I'm not a Laker fan, but there are people who love them and those that make a living off them. Either way I hate to see stocking misfortunes! http://www.wcax.com/story/15999714/biol ... t-hatchery

I've been contemplating the Heartlands the last few seasons. We are still Twilli-tipping it. Customers have a hard enough time with fighting fish sometimes I can only imagine what they would do with those roller rods. However, it might be nice come tourney time when we have seasoned anglers on the rods. I have only used the Shimano Talora's on a friends boat, and they were nice. Does anyone have the Heartlands? And if so, whats their consensus on them?

We ran this Radar a lot this year, and it worked flawlessly. I honestly don't think I would even own a boat without one ever again. Its really that nice to have this tool on those foggy days! We are upgrading our radar, so this one is going back on the market. New price $500 firm! It comes with an open array and a CRT head unit. Pick up in Rochester or buyer pays shipping.

Wire will achieve depth faster than mono. 300' with mono might get you 50' where with wire you'll get 100'.

Jerry, Very sorry for your loss. Our family will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers.

I would go out on a limb and say you may be "dumping" (letting it out) it too fast. I have not seen this type of result in our copper rigs. We let ours out slow. Really slow. Keeping constant thumb pressure on the spool.

Flashers and Stick baits
Yankee Troller replied to Jack's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Nope, it's illegal! I've never tried it, but there is no reason it can't work. -
Matt - give Jerge a call. He is a Raymarine rep, and can point you in the right direction. He also installed ours this Summer, and I have no idea how we lived without it! If you need his number PM me.

R. I. P. Capt. Ron (Grazzo) Grazioplena '48 - '11
Yankee Troller replied to Self Censored's topic in Open Lake Discussion
RIP Ron! We keep loosing these founding fathers every time I turn around. I just hope some of us younger guys can step up to the plate, and bring a lasting impact to the Lake we all love. -
I guess for an extra $60 you get a lot! Gear Ratio: Saltist 6.4:1 Clarion 6.2:1 Weight of the real: Saltist 24.30oz Clarion 30.7oz Saltist - 5BB's Clarion - 3BB's Not to mention the history on the Great Lakes goes to Daiwa. I remember when our 21' Penn Yan had a whole bunch of 47H's. Lastly, it's hard to compare drags systems by mearly looking at them. The Saltist drag system made it in the Saltwater market prior to finding it's way into the great lakes. Okuma may have stepped thier game up over the last few years. Actually, I know they have, but their top of the line reel isn't at the same level as Daiwa's. I know......I have used them all. For your purpose though many reels will work. We all started off with Penn 330's for our 10 color cores. A work horse of a reel, but very slow. Tekota's, Clarion, and Slatist are all top of the line reels if your looking to put a reel in your hand that makes junk line fishing more enjoyable.

The Ledge

She'll have another one! -
Saturday morning it was a paddle fly bite for us. Black Spinny w/ green dots pulling an A-TOM-MIK Nuclear Green fly back 20' down 15'. That combo took 3 Kings. The other combo that went was a black Spinny w/ crushed glow and Mtn. dew tape pulling an A-TOM-MIK live TG 30 back on the wire. We went 3 for 5 on the Kings in the morning. The afternoon trip was slow. We managed one precocious male and a sheepy on the same hot combo from the morning. Sunday morning we fished for 3 hours and went 0 for 4 on Kings. Two of them took a Moonshine Flounder Pounder plug fished 75' back on top, one took the Moonshine Crab Face plug fished 75' back on top, and the fourth took a Stinger Wonder Bread fished 30' back on the wire. I've given in-lines a real chance the last few weekends, and I now HATE them beyond belief. When we flat-lined plugs without them at the piers our landing percentage was in the high 80's. I can't say we have landed a King that hit a flat-lined plug behind on of these. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I am going back to my Otter Boats! LOL Here are two from Saturday in the mid twenties.
