  1. Tell me about it! However, in three weeks I won't be thinking brown trout....lol [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  2. We knew going into the morning that weather was creeping upon us from the South West. It was only a matter of time before Gail force winds and thunder boomers (according to the weather man), but we needed to get a few hours of fishing in at the very least. We pulled away from the dock about 6:30am and figured we would run the same troll as the day before. Well, we found out quickly that the mud from the Genesee River got pushed down it’s Western shoreline. We trolled for a few hours in that milk chocolate until we reached Long Pond where it started to green up. Once we found the green water the fish began snapping. Today’s spread was a simple Brown Trout, or a typical April fishing spread, consisting of 6-8 lines off the planer boards and 2 riggers. We ran bright stuff on one side and natural stuff on the other. Again, today it didn’t matter. They ate both! We ran our lines from 125-175’ back on the boards and 40-60’ back on the riggers. That Stinger Sea Sick Waddler was HOT again today on the rigger down 4’ back 40’. It took our second biggest fish of the day! Braddock point was the key area. I think the warm water getting pushed out of that bay from the South winds put the fish right on that point, and every pass 3-4 rods would fire. With about 2 hours of fishing left the board on the shoreline side of the boat’s furthest line out, and furthest line back, takes a hit. It was a J7 GFR ran back 175’. I could tell it was a good one, but I wasn’t ready for what came swimming by the boat 20 minutes later. My eyes about popped out of my skull when this thing hit the deck of the new Trojan. I called it a mid-teens fish, but at the end of the day on an official scale it weighed 16 pounds and 11 ounces. Our second largest Brown Trout ever, and one that made our customers mouth drop! On our last pass of the day we took our second largest fish on the Stinger Sea Sick Waddler weighing in around 12 pounds, which was a great end to a perfect day!
  3. Thanks Jeff. Were you casting from a pier? [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  4. After a few small set backs our new Tourney/Charter boat was put in the water on Saturday. The weather was perfect, the lake was flat, and the scenery from Sodus to Rochester was kind of cool. I’m going to like these cruises up and down the lake I think! Here goes the FIRST fishing report of 2011 with many more to come! We left the dock with a few Cold Steel team members, and our ladies about 6:30am. After watching just about every boat head East we decided to go West to get some virgin water. We started to think our decision wasn’t a good one because it took a little while to get our first hit. Right where Buck pond empties into the Lake we found some warmer water and sure enough there were some fish in it. We more or less tripled up in there, but just kept trolling West because we had a parade of boats behind us. I knew there were more ponds and bays dumping warm water into the Lake ahead of us, so we took a shot. Well, we waited for our next bite for quite some time, but just after passing Long pond the water started to warm up and when we got to Braddocks it was game on. Everything was going on the boards. Bright baits and natural baits were all taking their fair share of fish. Our Stinger Sea Sick Waddler took the big boy of the day on the corner rigger back 40’ down 4’. We tried to hang in less than 10’ of water for most of the day. Our trolling speed was between 2.1 and 2.5 on the GPS, and water temps ranged from 39 degrees to 47 degrees.
  5. Gill-T: B60 Airmar is the answer. We have on on the Bayliner. The rollers roll over it all the time.
  6. About that big one that got away.......... Nice net job!
  7. You guys are in our thoughts!
  8. A few of us talked about a little side tourney on Sunday, but nothing is set in stone. We do a small one day shootout from the Wilson Boat House during Memorial Day weekend. $50 a boat winner takes all. I don't see a problem with something like this, but I can assure you the committee has their hands full with the shootout, so if anyone wants to take action on a Sunday tourney feel free. I would wait until that weekend to run something in the case that we get blown off on Saturday.
  9. Lol....stugots...... Tom........might want to look in an italian american slang dictionary. Lol [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  10. Us Yankee boyz don't hucklebuck! You PA boyz have to if you want an edge.
  11. Jason - there is generally a strong Coho bite right off the mouth of the Genny in April. Last Spring we crushed them on the same gear we were using for BT. If you dont want to get into the spin doctor game right now just throw some bright sticks and spoons at them. Greens, oranges, and pinks seem to be the best. Brad's thin fish are real popular in Michigan for Spring Cohos. They have an orange/red color guys do real well on. Kings will bite your sticks too! We dropped a high teen fish off Charlote beach 2 Springs ago, and three Springs ago Legacy took one on our shakedown cruise on a stick. Spring Kings in your area are always a bonus in April.
  12. Stevo - water color will determine your leader lengths more than anything. If you have crystal clear water then you generally need longer leads. If there is color to the water your fishing you can shorten up your leads. Water color is really the trick to Spring BT trips. Find it and find the fish in general. Only putting spoons and sticks down a few feet off your riggers makes it interesting when fighting fish. So, dont go too long or else you will begin to see a lot of tangles.
  13. After May there is no need to leave an 8 mile radius! LOL
  14. We run 25lb McCoy Mean Green Mono on most of our set-ups, and leader down to 15 or 20 pound McCoy Flouro. Generally 15lb when using a spoon program, and 20lb when we are running paddles. On our BT set-ups we run 15lb McCoy Mean Green, and leader down to 8-10lb McCoy Flouro. I stumbled onto McCoy products during my bass fishing days, and I was overly impressed with the strength and durability of their line. Lifting 4lb largemouth into the boat with 6lb test line that looked like it got hit by sandpaper really impressed me. That being said they are a small company on the west side of the country. Their line isn't cheap, but what is now a days. It looks like Bass Pro is starting to carry their line-up.
  15. Wolfman - none of us have ran the DT5 yet, or any of the DT's. Billy V had one on his boat last summer. I too, read that you can only hook up 2 to one battery. We have gone and hooked up our 3 DT-10's to one battery. That battery being an accessory battery. We also installed a Minn Kota DC charger, which takes excess voltage from your alternator and keeps a charge on an accessory battery. Billy went this route last season and saw a great performance improvement by always having a charged battery. I was told that there was a little less draw with the new riggers compared to the old. I will know better how/if our set-up is going to work in the next month.

  17. Well at least we can fish it this year!!!! YT will be there. We look forward to it!
  18. Great question! Balances need to be sent in/postmarked by April 18th. We are working on getting packets out to the captains of each team at the moment.
  19. Last night the list of players was announced on our blog, and this morning the dinner menu was released. Head on over and check it out! http://whi.tumblr.com/
  20. Dave - you better calm down with the internet. Your almost half way to 100 posts. Your gonna upset Nog with a growing internet presence.
  21. The 13lb RR's will be fine at those depths with the speed your talking about. We have a set and we run them every now and again when we aren't going very deep. However, you can't beat the A-TOM-MIK Torpedos in either the 13 or 15lb size. WE fish the 15lb size down to 100' at 2.5-3mph with minimal blow-back. Many guys have switched over to these Torpedo weights and are really taking a liking to them.
