4/16 - Gave it a shake down. Boy did the boys at Krenzer do a job on the boat. She has never run so well right out of the gate. Fished for about an hour, and managed one Shaker BT on a Firetiger F11. 4/17 - Chris and some friends from Newberg, NY joined us for some HOT April Brown Trout action. The only problem was it turned into some HOT Coho action. The weather looked bleak all week. They were calling for 6-8's at one point! We headed down to Irondequoit Bay because that gives us the option to fish in the Bay. We peaked outside the breakwalls and it was fishable, so we set lines. It wasn't Fast and Furious, but we had a slow steady pick most of the morning. Chartreuse F9 Rapala took most of our shots with a J9 GFR Rapala coming in a close second. Off the planer boards we ran them between 100-150' back, and on the rigger 50-75' back. The bait was LOADED on the shore. You wanna know how I know this? Well, first off the birds were divebombing all morning, but every time I would go to change out a spoon on my riggers there was a Alewife on the hook. Funny and irritating at times. I guess if you want to catch some Alewives run the alewife Stinger Stingray, because that seemed to always have a alewife on it. Chris and the boys left with some very tasty Coho meat, and they had a great time given the 40 degree or colder day mother nature threw them. Oh, by the way we did land one little Brown Trout. So they sorta got what they came for! We will be out tomorrow, so stay tuned for another report! I apologize about not having any pictures. I forgot the camera at home! I wont let that happen again!

direction,,,help

Put your presentations in any creek run off or any warm/colored water you can find. That's what most of the guys are doing right now. You should go much deeper than 15' of water. Sticks and light spoons should do the trick. Read the water. Clear water use naturals and stained water go to brighter baits. -
John, Just cut Team Yankee Troller a check for half of the entry and go racing! JK.....see ya on the water bud!

I think Glen hit the nail on the head. Keeping it simple is key when starting out. Once you get the hang of it you can then become tackle junkies like the rest of us. A white paddle can be great for White fly's, green glow fly's and hammer fly's. The green paddle can handle green glow fly's and green crinkle fly's. Those simple combos take a majority of the fish on the lake throughout the year. Once you get those going for you I would suggest you start to branch out and experiment with other combos and gain confidence with the ones that work well for you. Going through reports from previous years on this board might render other combos that might spark your interest.

We use the 9.5 and 11.5 hole to knot lengths too. Pulls all my coppers just fine.

Registered and we can't wait to go! Even though we had that huge box in Sodus the St. Cathy spring event was my favorite,

We have also switched all our 47's over to the new Saltist reels. I ran the larger versions last year for our 10 color set-ups. The high gear ratio was VERY nice for junk line fishing. The nice thing about the faster retrieves is with newbies. The pump and reel technique can put a lot of slack in the line. It wont take many turns of the handle to get the slack out of the line after a pump. If you don't want to go with the Saltist there is also the new LCX which is a Sealine with a beefed up drag system. A friend of mine just bought a few of these and they seemed real nice when I played with them, and when I spooled them up for him. They have the larger handle too, which is a lot nicer than the old Sealine 47LC's small handle.

LINE AND LEADER WEIGHT FOR BROWNS
Yankee Troller replied to ALLEN WOOD's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Fishing Spring BT typically means your trolling shorelines. Flouro sinks much faster than monofilament from what I understand. You don't want a light monofiliment if your getting inside of 10'. For one you will loose a lot of plugs and secondly the lighter line will allow the plugs to dive deeper. We use a 15lb main line and a 10lb flouro leader. I have used lighter mono main lines and experienced the issues I just explained. Not to mention flouro is EXPENSIVE. I wouldn't want to fill up 4-6 reels with straight flouro. -
LOL I have to agree with you and Dex. However, Timmy's coffee is better. We are doing at least 3 of them. See you guys there. BTW Vince, if you have to cross the Lake in a small boat this year again you can borrow my Bass Boat! Should take you about 15 minutes at 68mph.

7 days boys! I'm gonna be honest and tell you that this is going to be VERY addicting and exciting! The functionality we have put into this project is SICK! It's very hard to keep it on the hush.

I am sure you will do just fine! [ Post made via Mobile Device ] -
John, I'm sure you can get away with 500-600' of backing. We had a king almost spool our 500 copper last year at the Sodus Pro-Am. That has 300 yards of 50# PP. We thumbed him and the line ended up breaking. Those fish were viscous that week, but in that situation we needed that backing. As for the Saltist.....you can only get a max of about 350 on the 50 size. We have 50's for our 10 colors and our 300 coppers. If your looking for a 300 copper reel you cant go wrong. 400 copper and above look to the Tekota or the Penn. Those Saltist drags are VERY good! You will enjoy them, and the gear ratio will make copper fishing enjoyable.
