Raymarine makes some GREAT stuff, but you will pay for it. I really like their C and E series, but I just don't want to pay those prices. Garmin has always made some decent stuff. Their top of the line combos seem to work for guys on the great lakes just fine.

Yeah I was there. I didn't see you! Why didn't you say something? I was very disappointed with that performance. One hell of a place to go though if you were single. Lol [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

Well, the ol’ man has gone from an ICU at Strong Hospital to a rehab unit at St. Mary’s in about the last week/week and a half. His brain swelling has gone down TREMENDOUSLY, and this has enabled him to move his right side quite a bit. St. Mary’s is an unbelievable trauma/brain injury hospital. They have done wonders for the city policeman who was shot in the head earlier this year. He is back to living a very good lifestyle given the circumstances. He will be on a very strict rehab schedule Monday-Saturday. Yesterday he was utilizing both of his hands like the doctors instructed him to do. He was squeezing different things in his room to work his hand muscles up again. He has done some recent things he has done to show us he is back to his usual form. For example, he was seen tossing the bird after my mother and aunt aggravated him; he got mad at my mother and yelled out her name. This was his first word in over a month and a half. When I say aggravated it’s because everyone treats him like he is a baby (standing over him and talking to him like he is non-comprehensive), and I think he is getting sick of it. However, these gestures show he is back! Rehab is going to kick his butt! He will be going through 3-4 different types of rehab each day. The specialist at St. Mary’s says that a typical patient only stays there for 4 weeks, which we thought was amazingly short. So, time will tell. Just wanted to let you guys know what’s going on.

My opinion is to stay away from Lowrance. Their customer service sucks bad and trust me you will need to use them when something goes wrong. I was huge into bass fishing and had many Lowrance units. EVERY one went bad. Hummingbird has really stepped up their game in recent years. Billy C has some great screen shots of the FF capabilities. The GPS is really neat too. Garmin is another good MRI function unit too. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

I loved the XM my truck came with, but I am not paying 12 bucks a month for Radio. If you have the 12 bucks to toss out the window every month its well worth it. I just use that money for spoons and paddles!

Here is the problem....what was hot in 2007 wasn't in 2008. So, i am guessing that what will be hot in 2010 isn't what was hot in 2009! That's why our tackle boxes grow over the years! Green, Green, Green! Spoons - Gator's, NBK's, SSW's Paddles - Anything with dots Flies - Hammer, Glow Hammer, Wiggler, Green Hypnotist, Green Crinkle, Ultra Green Glow My memory is shot right now, so unless I go back and read my reports this is what I can give ya.

Copper set-up questions
Yankee Troller replied to Pj Weber's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
PJ, Adding copper is a GREAT idea! Just remember there is a learning curve that you will need to go through. I'm not sure what type of boat or set-up you have, but if your going to run it down the chute just make sure you let it out SLOW (when i say slow exaggerate it if you have to) and don't make any turns until its out as you will allow the copper to fall right into your wire divers. My recommendation is to get a 600' set-up and have it marked every 50'. This will allow you to be as versatile as possible. A 600 copper will only fit on a Penn 345. The retrieve rate is crap and the clicker will most likely go. However, the drags are SOLID! You can use small swivels to connect leaders and backing to the copper or the albright knot. I run a 20lb floro leader on all my coppers around 20-25'. You can see the albright knot on the animated knots website, and the swivels Tom or Ernie can help you with. Be careful on EBAY. Some guys have bought copper set-ups and they got the lighter copper. You don't want that. Ernie and Tom's copper are identical, I think, and most of the people running copper on the lake have bought set-ups from either of these two individuals. When you run it for the first couple of times make sure it is calm and let it out slow. Don't make any fast turns and you should be just fine. If you have any questions there are a ton of people on here who have been running copper very successfully for years. Don't hesitate to ask. -
Thanks! Sounds like similar experiences. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

Tresspassing Season & the State Land Buck Bet (w/pic)

Nice story bud! Nice deer too! -
My father continues to show great improvements. He has been moved out of the ICU for 2 days now. His eyes are open, and he can look in the direction of voices. He has responded well to the doctors when they ask him to wiggle his thumb, which they say is great. He still seems very tired by the end of the day because you have to ask him to open his eyes. He can nod yes and no to answer questions. It looks to me like its killing him to be in there. The doctors have had him in this big chair for a few hours each day doing physical therapy on him. My uncle Eric said my father watched a nurse walk by him yesterday turning his head and all. You can also see a depression in his head from the swelling going down. Again, I want to thank all of my LOU family for the great prayers and cards. It means a lot to us.

Nothing ever goes down boys! I hope it does increase prize payouts. Anything below 5th place isn't worth killing in my opinion. I let them go back and swim. A fish is more important to me than 25 or 50 bucks. However, that's just my opinion, and my father HATES it.

Last trip for 2009
Yankee Troller replied to reeltime's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Thats a pig Lee! Good job on getting out. -
The good news-I went fishing this morning and landed 4 out of 5 chromers. Biggest was around 9lbs. The great news-when I got up to the hospital this afternoon my father opened his eyes for a minute and is responding well to pinches and voices. This is the most he has done in 3 weeks. Well, I had to wait until the last morning of the last weekend to get something worth shooting under my stand. I just wish he wasn't such a bad azz! Maybe, he would have been the largest I have shot with the bow so far. Story, Sunday morning.....I get in the stand around 5:45am. Fog is THICK! It burns off at 8am and I say to myself....OK, I am going to start seeing some deer now! Well, not 20 minutes later I see this guy walking through some thick/high grass. He comes out at 50yards. I range him, draw, bend at the waist, and let the arrow fly. I shaved his back! SOAB! He jumps and trots away and is on the other side of me about 60 yards away, and on the other side of some branches. I break out the HS TruTalker and give it a few breaths and this guy turns and walks right under my stand looking for ANOTHER fight. I put a good shot on him and he went 200 yards and died. This guy was a fighter. His ear is ripped in half. He had fighting scars all over his body. Even though he only had the one half rack I was still proud to get the opportunity to harvest him. He will go on my wall with the other European mounts.

Stable, and that's it! However, his case is severe and he hasn't shown any improvements. That's the disappointing part. These numbers don't mean much, but the neurologist said there is a 10-20% chance he will be 100% independent if he pulls through. Thank you to the people who have sent cards! It means the world to us.

That's what i thought at first!

The Yankee Troller needs our prayers!
Yankee Troller replied to FISHINMAN's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Hey, thanks guys! I REALLY appreciate it. It's going to be a long road ahead. Current status - he is stable and they are trying to manage the swelling in the brain. The cat scans revealed the bleeding in the brain has stopped, which is a good thing. He is sedated currently, and they take him off the sedation drug every hour to conduct neurological tests. It's amazing how fast this news went around the fishing community, and my family and I REALLY appreciate your prayers and support. I will try to keep everyone updated, although its tough, because of the amount of people that have showed their support.
