  1. We all enjoy the fruits of natural reproduction, but I do not wish for it. Naturals make it hard to manage the lake.
  2. You're probably right, but lets look at the positives. > The best genes are ripped out of that river before they get to the hatchery. No one's gonna cast at a 18lb fish when there's a 28lb fish sitting there. > Some of the best Trout get ripped out of the river at this time. It would ensure more and bigger trout for the guides during the winter. > The salmon crowd treats the river like a dumpster. Less garbage going into the river. > It would leave more food for the trout following the salmon. > It would require less DEC presence to patrol. Also, why is one town more important than all lake fisherman and small towns who span the whole entire shoreline in multiple counties and two countries? Trib anglers voiced their concerns on what lake anglers were taking. Regulations were changed. It's now time for the lake anglers to protect their species.
  3. Tough morning, but we ground them out. Jonah, his wife, and some friends joined us for some offshore fishing. The target was 2yr old Salmon and Steelhead. We finally found them out on the 32/33N line. That also happens to be where the warmest water was. Temp was down 95'. Our Cannon Downriggers pulled fish from 75-110' down. Best spoons today were King of Sting, Frost Bite, and Green Jeans. 300" diver took a few fish with a white Dreamweaver Spin Doctor/A-TOM-MIK Glow Stud fly. . . 4. Given Chinook are managed for Lake Ontario anglers that river should be shut down from September 1st until after egg take. That would be protecting our fish populations!
  5. Tournament fishing is a point per pound and 10 points for a fish. #20 average
  6. What a fun weekend fishing an event put on by Craig Hajecki and Vince Pierleoni. We'd typically be competing in the Fall King of the Lake over in St. Catherine's, Ontario. However, given the current situation these two guys made sure there was an event to fish for anyone interested. The bite was tough this weekend, but we had a great team of guys and executed our plan almost to a tee. Practice - we knew the inside water for stagers was a tough grind, so we headed offshore looking for 2yr old box fillers. We found them on the 27/28N line straight out of port. Mix of Team Dreamweaver spoons, A-Tom-Mik Mfg. flies, and Familiar Bite meat took fish for us and gave us a spot. Day 1 - our plan was to fish stagers until 8am. At 8am if there weren't at least four stagers in the cooler we were headed offshore. At 8am we had one stager in the Grizzly, so we headed offshore. It didn't take long and we were into the immature Salmon. Again, Familiar Bite meat, A-TOM-MIK flies, and DW spoons did the job. We went in to weigh in not sure what to expect. Low and behold, we were the only six fish box and we're in the lead after day one. Day 2 - the plan for day two was to head offshore and get our six fish. When we got to our waypoints from the day before we noticed temp went deeper and we were in search mode. Throughout the day we ground out a nice charter box, but only put four Salmon in the cooler. Not knowing how the stager bite was (due to no communication) we thought the worst. When we got to the scales we heard the bite stayed tough inside, and we did enough to take home the win! Spoons that worked for us this weekend were custom FishUSA Team Dreamweaver Glow Roy Boy, Glow Gladiator, Martel, and a Hulk moonshine. A-TOM-MIK flies that worked were Glow Blue shredded Hammer behind a wonderbread Smart fish, and a Glow Stud behind a black dot Spin Doctor. Familiar Bite meat worked good behind 8" flashers and Familiar Bite Whiplash paddles. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. Contact the guys at Bay Rat Lures. That's what they do.
  8. Great morning out of the Oak. Some long time clients from PA joined us with a couple rookies to experience the great fishing we've had. A little networking with the fleet and we found out we didn't need to bomb offshore, which was a relief given the wind forecast. We found the thermocline around 60' down at the 26N line. Half the fish we cleaned were matures, the other half were 2yr olds. We had mostly spoons down on the riggers and coppers. Good spoons today were custom FishUSA Dreamweaver's in Glow Gladiator, Glow Roy Boy, and Martel. All were fished Mupped. A-TOM-MIK coppers in 300 & 400 were taking shots with spoons and Dreamweaver Cut Plugs. Divers took fish 210-250' out with A-TOM-MIK Glow Stud's. 9. I wish I had the patience to build them, but I have a buddy build mine. Production rods don't always give me what I'm looking for.
  10. You're making this fishing thing harder than it needs to be......
  11. I thought Chad Gherig from Son of a Gun ran a women's event out of Oswego.
  12. Regular size LJ dipsies, and it varies. I like shorter leads in the morning and on rough days.
  13. Great job to all the women teams! That Spinny/Fly combo was crushing it all weekend for me!
  14. 8/21 - Today we fished the Reelin' For A Cure event in Niagara country. 30 teams made up of women all fishing for Breast cancer research. If you'd like to donate there is a link at the bottom of this post. A huge thank you to Stephanie Moot-Pierleoni for putting this event on. It's a ton of work, and we appreciate it. Before we left the dock I saw the wind forecast and it wasn't good. I had an all women team with almost no fishing experience, and no big water experience. Against my better judgement I wanted to go for the win and took them offshore. We lasted about an hour by the time we got set up, and four of them were chumming (Sea Sick/throwing up). In that time we went 1/3 on mature fish. I started feeling bad about my decision and we headed back to the dock. Everyone got off the boat and sat under a gazebo to get their feet back under themselves. Once they all started feeling better they wanted to head back out. I promised them I'd keep them inside where it was calmer. It didn't take long and we were on a Salmon bite in 100-120' of water that's been missing for a few weeks. Between 10:15am and 12pm we went 4/6 on mature Salmon with a Brown Trout, Steelhead, and skipper thrown in. On the way back to the dock after fishing time expired I thought we totally missed the bite, and anyone inside would have a box. After the scales closed we found ourselves at the top of the leaderboard! So proud of these ladies! We decided to give our Calcutta money and 1st place money back to the cause totalling over $3500. http://www.reelinforacure.com/ #savethetatas 8/22 (morning) - Back to the Oak this morning with a crew from Maine. A long time client brought some guides from Operation ReBoot OutDoors. Their organization takes veterans out on free hunting and fishing trips back in Maine. We started the day running out to the 31N line and by the time we trolled to the 33N it was all we could do to keep 5 rods in the water. Great mix of mature Salmon, 2yr old Salmon, and Steelhead. The Steelhead meat is really starting to look great! Our Cannon Downriggers from 65-90' down, wires out 180-220', as well as A-Tom-Mik Mfg. 300/400 coppers. Hot spoons this morning were Team Dreamweaver Green Jeans, and a custom FishUSA Dreamweaver called Martel. 8/22 (afternoon) - Cool bunch of people on today's evening trip. One from Niquagra, one from Virgina, one from Washington State, one from Idaho, and two from NY. Our evening trip was a steady pick of Salmon and a few Trout. Set up on the 30N line and didn't have to go far. Our Cannon Downriggers were best from 65-90' down. They were chewing FishUSA' custom Dreamweaver called Martel as well as a Geezer. A-TOM-MIK Glow Stud's and Bam flies took fish on divers and coppers. Divers ran back 200-250' and coppers were 300/400. 8/23 - Another great morning with the guys from Operation ReBoot OutDoors. These guys were great on the rods and fun to bust balls with the last two mornings. There's a great mix of mature Salmon, 2yr old Salmon, and Steelhead offshore right now. Pick your day and get out there for some explosive [emoji476]! We started at the 30N line this morning, but it didn't get poppin' until we got to the 32N line. We fished 5-6 Miles East of the harbor. FishUSA' custom Dreamweaver called Martel was a stud. We ran it Mupped down 90' on our Cannon Downriggers. Other mentions as the [emoji274] got high were UV Green Tuxedo and Green Jeans in that 65-80' depth. Our wires were going out 170-250 depending on where the thermocline was (it got deeper as we got deeper). A-TOM-MIK Glow Stud and BAM flies took fish behind Dreamweaver Spin Doctors. Only A-TOM-MIK copper to [emoji91] today was a 300 pulling a Geezer spoon. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. SI model. If you plan on networking it with a Minn Kota get the G3N. If not, get the G3.
  16. Can't say I've heard of that issue. Has he contacted Cannon?
  17. No need to. I know how abrupt it is on the Mag 5 and 10's. People wanted fast downriggers and this is what we're left with. The OP has Optimum's and they have a soft start/soft stop feature.
  18. I'm no daily fisherman. I only fish on the weekends. Just like seeing people catch more fish.
  19. Set the hook up so the cable has to go through it.I put mine about 3" in front of the downrigger on the boom.
  20. I ask becasue if cable coils up on the side of the spool it will create loose loops. On the way down they create a quick free fall action. I've heard of balls snapping off due to this. To remedy use your cannonball hook/eyelet to guide the cable onto the center of the spool. I run 20lb weights in rough water with a 13' beam and have never just snapped off a weight for no reason outside of a free fall or a weak spot in the cable/braid. You shouldn't need snubbers.
  21. Sorry for slacking on reports this season. Life's been hectic this summer! Anyway....over the last few weeks the Offshore bite been humbling at times and very rewarding as well. Saturday morning - They say "it's not how you start, but rather how you finish!" That was today's motto. We didn't get our first bite until around 9:30am. We then turned a quadruple landing 2/4. After that we dialed in a program, and picked away at them. When it was all said and done we cleaned six Salmon and six Steelbow for these first time customers from Allentown, PA. This morning we started at the 28N line and trolled to the 34N line. 32-34N was best for us. We found a break around 32N where the thermocline came up 20'. Baits that took multiple fish were: * Frost Bite down 70' on a downrigger * Team Dreamweaver Two Face Spin Doctor/ A-Tom-Mik Mfg. shredded Big Fin 200' out on a diver * Regular sized Dreamweaver Martel by FishUSA on 300' of A-TOM-MIK copper We fished a leg of the King of the Oak today as well. Our three biggest fish weighed just over 62lbs. It was good for 2nd place! Saturday afternoon - For our afternoon charter we had some local guys that, more or less, grew up together. We decided to run back out to the 31N line where we left them biting on our morning trip. It was a sloppy ride out there due to the East winds, but we were rewarded with action right from the start. Same program from the morning was working still, which made our job easy. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. My question about the cable snapping is - Were you running them perpendicular to your boat?
  23. I've noticed the same things, but I can't explain it.
  24. HELIX with a Lakemaster North East v2 is a great combo. Huge upgrade from what you have.
