It can be done. We tried it last May out of Wilson. Four of us hopped on a boat and went out at 10ish and fished until 12/1ish. We hooked and caught 4 Salmon all on Moonshine glows. 2 Downrigger fish, 1 wire fish, and 1 copper fish. It was pretty neat. We kept the underwater lights on and watched Alewife swim through them from time to time. I had an afternoon trip and put the fish to sleep on a nice break, so we headed out there and got back on them. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have radar and a good GPS. Autopilot helps a lot too.

Daiwa is making a Copper/Leadcore rod now in its DXT line up. Very similar rod to the Heartland series with some tweaks to make it similar to the old Great Lakes System rods that everyone loved. We've been running 9'6" Heartland Diver rods for many years without any issues. They are great for up to 500' of Copper.

We've been running it for 4 seasons now. It's been flawless. I might suggest you buy the Ethernet Hub and two Ethernet cables and network the whole system. We've run the AS 21RD4KW and I know Vince on Thirllseeker is running both the AS 21RD4KW and the AS 12RD2KW. Let me know if you have any other specific questions.

As long as they are the Accudepth Plus they are a solid reel for the price. I know a charter captain who ran them on his wires for a few seasons without a hiccup up here on Ontario. I also ran 6 of them on my Brown Trout board rods for many years without incident.

The Daiwa Accudepth rods I've seen and used had terrible finishes, workmanship, and didn't last. The Daiwa Heartlands were bulletproof, and so are their new DXT rods. They actually expanded the DXT line-up over the Heartland and give a few extra actions and also make a Copper/Leadcore rod. I think the ML action downrigger rod on the FLs would be a nice one! I played with the 10' M diver rod they make now, and that looked like a nice stick for Trout.

We won our first professional event in 2007. Our first time fishing a professional event coming from the Am division. The next weekend we took dead last in Niagara. It happens to everyone. Honestly, a bad tourney will teach you more than one you clean house in!

I snapped my frames on my Fisch 580G last Summer. Sent them in and had them back in less than 2 weeks. I think it cost me $25ish. My only gripe was they didn't make the color frame I had originally anymore, so I had to change that. I thought it was decent customer service.

Another "over analyzed" thing in our sport. Make it long enough that you'r maintaining the stealth of LC fishing, but it doesn't need to be 100' long. For spoons when fishing Salmon and Trout we run 15 or 20lb Flouro. Very rarely do we put paddles on LC. When we do the 20lb flouro isn't a problem, but I'd imagine some might want to bump that up a little.

I have the 580P and the 580G. Like them both. The 580G is a great lens, but you will feel the weight difference.

What it comes down to is you get what you pay for! Everyone cant afford the best, and we all settle at times. However, we all spend more $$$$ in the long run fixing those mistakes when we settled on inferior products. Daiwa and Shimano have been in the game a long time with pretty solid equipment. Okuma is fairly new to the Great Lakes in comparison, and they have had a VERY bumpy go at it. I can name a few line ups from Okuma that had bad go arounds in the last 5-7 years.
