  1. New tool for Humminbird users! Meet the RC1 Bluetooth Remote. It will work with the 800, 900, and 1100 series core units as well as the ONIX series. This can be a really nice tool for you if you're working the back of your boat while trolling. With the push of a button you can mark a waypoint. It can do much more than that, but I think that is a huge plus for us trollers. http://www.humminbird.com/Products/AS-RC1/
  2. You are correct sir the straight horizontal lines are the downrigger balls. When a fish is red, or whatever is the strongest color return on the color palette you have set up, it means the fish is in the center of the cone that the transducer is putting out. The blue streaks are the fish moving through the gear. There are a couple of great videos you should watch that go into great detail about how sonar works. You gain a lot more functionality, a little better networking ability, and a higher screen resolution.
  3. We took 1st in the Niagara Pro-Am Trophy box this weekend. Congrats to @TeamTHRILLSEEKR on their Classic box win! http://t.co/jWFPaUmOwY

  4. Been running the new ONIX series from Humminbird this Spring and we're really impressed with the detail they show. Enjoy the pics.
  5. You can meet us (Bob Songin or myself) at the Niagara Pro Am this weekend, or if you're local we can meet up during the week in Rochester somewhere. Should be a fun event!
  6. Day 1 of the Niagara Pro Am and we're leading the 5 fish Trophy division. http://t.co/sfsAmoVah6

  7. Let's keep the word "Pro" out of this. Obviously, that word is used loosely....I won't mention and names.....Freakin Creepers. If you obtain a Captains License to use take people out fishing for money you have to think in your mind you can catch them their limit, and that you have enough experience to showcase what our resource has to offer. They aren't coming back to fish with you if you cant do that. So, that being said why do you want to enter a division where some guys only fish once or twice a month? Play with the big boys if you are taking money from paying customers. If not, there are plenty of 1 day events that everyone plays in throughout the season.
  8. Why does there have to be a rule for everything? It's like walking up to a baby and stealing his lollipop. Are there laws for that? NO!
  9. If someone thinks they are capable of being a charter boat captain then they shouldn't enter the open division. It's supposed to be a grass roots level to get people interested in fishing tourneys. Not to intimidate them by jack-potters. There are enough $100 one day events throughout the summer for anyone to enter. Keep the open division there for what it was designed for.
  10. Tilting your transducer is the worst thing to do. Your 83 or 50kw beam should have no issues picking your balls up. My ducer is a good 20' forward from my balls and I can mark them after about 20/30' all the way down to 200'+. Tilting your ducer will give you false depths of fish and your balls. Its simple trigonometry. If you have a transom mount ducer you should see them within 10' of the surface. I would look at settings on your FF, and whether the ducer is shot. Tilting it isn't the answer.
  11. I'm sure we can use it. Maybe highest amateur finish? Damn kids these days.....gimmie gimmie gimmie......go earn it! Hahaha Great question. In the event we have a blow day whatever round the brackets stop in the heaviest and 2nd heaviest catches will take money.
  12. Great to see you on this forum! Thanks for the info!
  13. Easy ladies! AFW is the thinnest 30lb wire on the market (that I'm aware of), but has the lowest break strength. We've run it for many many seasons. For the first 100' on a 2 setting it's about a 2:1 ratio. We've rarely cracked gear off on it, and if we did it was because we were careless with the wire. You WILL want to be EXTRA CAREFUL when handling this wire. NEVER let it get loose, or you will experience kinks. I've been on boats running the other brands, and I'm amazed at how terrible the dive curve is on those other brands. I say it's terrible because I'm use to my AFW. Obviously, it all works. However, one boat is running the Smart-Troll in Rochester and I turned him onto AFW. He ran anther popular brand for the last few years. Yea, he caught a ton of fish on that brand. He put the probes on each wire and monitored the Smart-Troll. The extra wire need on the other brand to achieve the depth of the AFW was significant. Being a charter fishing boat I want the blow back and wires to enter the water as close to the boat as possible to avoid clients that cant control fish at the back of the boat. Hence, why we run A-TOM-MIK 15lb torpedos and AFW.
  14. Saturday morning WOW! If it weren't for the dropped fish we would have been done by 9am! Instead we were done at 10am! DW Sea Sick Waddlers on our Cannon Digitrolls in Silver and Gold were ON FIRE! Mags 20-30' back with Regs as sliders. We fished around 6 mile in 70-100' of water. Our bigger fish came on our deepest rigger pulling Familiar Bite meat. Saturday afternoon Checked out some new water and it was a bust! We heard the morning spot dried up, so down to the bar we went. A similar program to the one we ran in the morning worked well. 5 and 10 color leads, and our Cannon digitrolls took most of our fish. We also got DW Get R Done's going on a high Cannon digitroll and on a 10 color. Sunday We took a but whoopin! After a crazy Saturday we just couldn't get them going good on Sunday. We dropped some good fish, landed a few skippers, and boxed a few. We fished 80-120 around the 6 mile area, and had an AMAZING screen. Fish shooting through our gear, but they just wouldn't commit. Fish caught were on DW Sea Sick Waddlers, and a Shredded A-TOM-MIK Hammer fly. Found out late the bight was best down on the bar. Monday morning Headed to the bar for the morning bite. Screen was loaded, and we got on them fast! Familiar Bite meat on our deep Cannon Digitroll, and on our copper. DW Sea Sick Waddlers were good on our higher Cannon digitrolls. Monday afternoon We worked for our bites! We managed to get each guy on board a nice King. We tossed back some skippers, and lost a few other fish. Tough night, but everyone was very appreciative of their catch. Familiar Bite meat on our deep Cannon digitroll, and DW Sea Sick Waddlers on our high Cannon digitrolls. Our big guy took an A-TOM-MIK B Fly on our wire diver out 200' on a 2 setting. Tuesday Didn't move a rod for the first hour. We worked the 80-100' are on the 56-57W line. Finally pushed it north and worked 150-200 on the 58-59W lines and picked away at them. Hot ticket was DW Sea Sick Waddlers and Dave's Salmon Slappers MUPP'd on our Cannon Digitrolls. our 300 copper was consistent with Familiar Bite meat.
