  1. thats kinda funny, in a really sad way. What a lesson to teach your kid. Well at least I know. poor kid has been trying to figure out why I call him 2 rods when his name is jeff....
  2. Just looking thru the rules and prize structure, didn't see any mention of youth prizes. Typically how do they run?
  3. bob, I would guess that the answer would be that they would have to be licensed. For the cost of 3 day license I would hate to find out the hard way!
  4. I think all boards will dive if given a chance. I have never used otter boards, if they are fixed planers, I was told that using 100# mono helps in rough water because of the stretch
  5. I have a wire rod set up with a slide diver and use a #8 Spro swivel then 100' of mono leader to attach the diver to.
  6. Hmmm Honesty and fishermen, not sure if that will work. Actually I have found this site and attheoak to be a fantastic source
  7. I guess I have committed, I put my boat in at the oak yesterday and I am pretty confident that the engine will be alright. Speaking of "in the Box" I saw that boat at Wileys yesterday.
  8. Mick, Wish I would have known, would like to have had a chance to meet you. I will probably try to make it up in the next week or so, I'll let you know when. Jim
  9. I just installed my Subtroll, and I used Longlines demo, worked great, right down to the straw from the wd40!
  10. Today the Reel Mayhem felt the cool rush of Oak Orchard creek. Still have to go for a shake down cruise, but I already feel better having the boat in the water. With 3 weeks till the derby, I still have time to fine tune!
  11. You may have a hard time finding a charter this close to the derby.
  12. Not sure where you are located, but Narby's at the Oak has tape.
  13. I can help you out on some of your questions. #2. No need for a special wire rod, a normal dipsy rod is fine. #3. Add the will tip if you have the time, but its not a problem if you leave the original tip until it shows signs of wear. #5 www.mcmaster.com (not sure of the item number, but if you search the lou site, you will find the details.)
  14. about 25% of what Eastern Lake Ontario gets! Spring is here!
  15. 200 yards is a lot of lead core, probably more than you need for either of those lakes. But, yes, still use the backing.
  16. I think we have made it over the hump! I am stuck working in NYC next week, but plan to get my boat wet shortly after my return. Only 6 weeks to the spring derby!
  17. #8 spro, I use them on my slider dipsey setups. I believe they are 50# test
  18. Hank, While I don't advocate cruelty to any animal, I believe that was the least of the reasons for stopping snagging. Like most other causes, I think it was the vocal minority of elitists (sp) that made their case against virtually no opposition. I don't miss it at all, but it was fun to watch from the shore along the Salmon River! Oh yeah, I have caught seagulls in Dunkirk Harbor on both minnows and rapalas.
  19. Back in the day when "Michigan Crickets" (snag hooks) were the key to catching salmon, I snagged a beaver. That was from a Lake Erie Trib around 1980 or so.
  20. The submerged portion shouldn't be a problem. If the boat is slipped someplace with power you might want to rig something up for the motor itself. My opinion, by the second week of april, it should be a problem.
  21. It's clearly been a long day for me. I read the topic and wondered "Why would LOU want to Block the launches with and Auction?" Never mind, Im just going to load the stove and go to bed.
  22. Pretty even split between east and west enders
  23. Oops.... I knew that was a problem, but miss understood the post. Damn Irish (my dark side)
  24. I fished it a few times last August, calling it home this year. I didn't have any problem, but then again, I have never been one to fish the pack. I find enough fish on the fringe and leave the close quarter fishing to those that need the excitement.
  25. Eric, There are actually 2 launches there, the motel and the town launch. The Town is limited to residents, for reasons beyond me. Hammondsport has a snob element that is harsh on boaters. The Motel on the other hand will allow you to launch for a fee (or so I have been told) Good luck
