Why are you doing this? I woke up and felt good about myself this morning, even with the cold and wind. Then I answered your little poll, had to take inventory and now realize how much I have spent! Darn good thing I'm single, or I would be soon! I have 4 wire set ups, 6 innerflow rods for planer board and walleye, and I think 8 - 10 regular trolling rods.

that could have been costly!

please contact your state senator to oppose Grannis
nyforests replied to Tim Bromund's topic in Open Lake Discussion
He will most likely be approved, with long list of commissioners being selected the DEC item just isn't that controversal. On a brighter note, Spitzer is increasing the EPF budget, which was a surprise to me. I thought for sure he would concentrate on regulatory items and let Land faulter. As for the trapping issue, you won't find many politicians from the 5 boroughs in favor of it. The people they represent just don't understand the benefits and they never will. -

I stand corrected, just did a little research and he does need approval. First I heard of that, there have been several commissioners in my career and never heard of a senate approval. Live and learn... -

While I don't disagree with your position, the fact is that the DEC has not been headed by a career biologist in recent history if ever. Its always a lawyer or someone owed a favor. The good side it that the commisioner is not truely in a position to make policy. I believe Commissioners are appointed at the sole pleasure of Spitzer, not sure what the state senate can really do to help us out. With that said, it can't hurt to write a few letters. -
Oh the bible? I get that... actually like you all, not that impressed. Especially when they still send 2 of each seasons catalog anyways. Actually, if they had a true master catalog for the year, I would love it.

Compared to any other edition, what makes it special? I'm kinda hurt, cuz I may have spent upwards of 10K this past year and I didn't get squat!

Sounds foolish, but I thought of giving a similar rig a try. I was going through the cabelas offshore catalog, and thought if you swapped out some of the foil for flies, it could get interesting! Imagine a 2 kings hitting that rig? -
Property Rights along the creek should not shut down a fantastic fishery for a region. Steelhead released from the Oak are targeted by 100's of legit tax payers in both rec boats as well as charters. These fishermen bring thousands of dollars to the Point Breeze area each year. I think these people deserve to receive the same benefits as those in Pulaski and other major tribs.

The unit on my boat was just installed. But with the remote you can turn left or right which would make netting a fish with only 2 on board easier.

The 14 has a corded remote, similiar to the radio mic. I would guess the stretch to be 8 to 10 feet. I beleive the 12 is stationary

thats beyond my experience, hopefully someone else can answer that one for ya!

I just did a search and came up with dozens of internet dealers. I found the core group of dealers are within about $100 bucks of one another, then the question becomes free shipping, tax etc...

I can proabably help you on that, I also have a 26 swirl WA. I just yesterday put the auto pilot in. My boat has the penta I/O and cable steering and I chose the Simrad AP14 autopilot. Intalling wasn't bad, but you may have to relocate your fuse panel to acoomdate teh steering unit. My mechanic did it in 5 hours. Let me know if you have any other questions. It a nice boat, you will like it! For a gps unit I am running the lowrance global map 7500.

Luckily the DEC Commissioner has very little power when it comes to setting seasons, limits, and the like. My guess is, Like Elliott, he will have his fingers deep in the permit and regulatory issues. But, I could be wrong, Have been 4 times this year and its still January! Good news is that my Auto-pilot is being installed today!

Last summer I was looking into a Lake trout trip in Nunevet. The ice is only off for about 5 weeks a year, but 30 -40 lb lakers are common and its possible to hook 40+ aday. I came across this trip while Bear hunting in Saskachewan, some day.... some day.... Oh yeah, cost was almost 4000 for 5 days. Mainly because you cold camp on the lake due to grizzlies, so they flew you 100 miles the lake each day.

Let me retract that suggestion that you contact him. He didn't see fit to leave an email. Oh well...

I have mine set up so i never have to log in, must be a firewall problem. Could be a "user malfunction".... Hank, you might want to send him an email, seeing he can't log in. Just a thought. For the record, you guys are doing a great job!

Anybody ever rent from these folks? They have cabins near the mouth of the Oak.

Advice on favorite downrigger releases
nyforests replied to mikejonestkd's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Haven't had a chance to try the Scotty's, I have been partial to the Black's release. I find them simple to adjust, no guessing on how deep to pinch the line, and have yet to have any line damage. -
I have had great success with wire also, why? I have no idea. I do however have my own take on wrapping the line on tight. I send it all the way out with a large dipsey w/ring and reel in the dipsey while its set. Just have to remember to tighten teh release before you send it out. Its a great job for those that like to fish with me but have a hard time coming up with gas money!
