  1. we were about 10 miles from from the ocean on the kennebec river, its in augusta maine. but there are smelt camp up and down the river. the coolest part is that this last for about 2 1/2 months.
  2. i just got home from vacation to maine. my father and brother took me ice fishing for smelt. it was really awesome. i never thought in a million yrs you can catch smelt ice fishing for them. what we do is sit in ice houses with 2 long trenches on each side of the house. we hang up a board on the side wall over the cut out holes. on the board they have 6 cheap fly reels spooled with ice fishing line, then 4lb fishing line with ice fishing jigs. for bait we chopped up blood worms and put them on our hooks. drop our lines at all depths just sit back and watch them for hits. the 1st night between 16 of us that went we caught 400 total smelt, ifor 5 hrs of fishing. the next night when just my brother and i went, we filled a 5 gallon bucket in 3 hrs. what was really cool was when you looked down hole and watched the smelt swim by. ray, musky, i when i go back in august to help my dad and his friend get thereboat and traps ready for the season. ill bring you guys home some lobster.
  3. sorry yes it was an eagle that swooped down. motoman yes i did partylike a rock star when im on vacation and not driving no holds bar
  4. hey you think thats cool. when i was in alaska last yr i watched salmon swoop down and pick kings out of the water like they were minnows.
  5. mclure would like that super size.
  6. the price of all metals are going up. its hurting everyone, i work in a foundry that makes fire hydrants. between the brass, steel and iron. we have to do price increase twice a year to keep up with the raising prices. lead i usually can get for free when companies return old hydrants. the worst is aluminum. last i knew it was around 40 dollars a pound. and its all because the countries over seas buying everything they can get there hands on.
  7. i'm up here in maine now. no lobster though season over, going smelting friday and saturday nite.
  8. ray tell her if she does not know what nookie is... then tell he you cant go on vacation next month.
  9. glad i eat my catch out of local lakes. as far as lobster im glad my dad a lobster fisherman in maine
  10. i use blacks relases. i have 2 releases per cable, one fixed the other not fixed. if i want to run to stackers, all i do is hold the release while droping the ball. then grab a rubberband and tie a half hitch in the open space where the cable run through. the rubberband will hold the release at your desired spot. i also been on other boat who wraps the rubberband around their fishing line and runs the loops of the rubberband through the release its self. instead of twisting a loop in the line and running the loop through the releases. i asked why they do that and they said it helps keeps the line from being beat up. i was skeptical about that. so the next time i fished on my boat i did noticed the difference, and found flat spot on my line. so i switced to rubberbands.
  11. ray i heard that gander mtn and bass pro are interested at coming to one of the mall locations.
  12. hey moe
  13. nice fish, good job. think its cool seeing kids horse fish in like the way you son is doing.
  14. i been noticing that sometimes when i get gas at sunco and mobil gas stations. my gas goes alot faster. when i gas up at kiwck full or gulf, gas tends to last longer. last yr i got some bad gas in pulaski and my boat keep quiting on me made for a short trip. went in chaged the fuel filter and got new gas from a different station and problem went away.
  15. happy new year to everyone now lets go fishing
  16. yep, it was my fault. i lost the first fish.
  17. well it was a new lure. ray did mention that he had a hook sharpener. i was suprised he didnt rag on me too much. about losing the fish.
  18. start in the south corner and work your way north. the perch are there
  19. thank you ray. have a good time. as far as breaking the lure. this is what happen, ray breaks out a shiny new stick bait. he says this will catch some fish. after 5 mins in the water, fish on. the fish jumps once, i get it closer to the boat' then jumps again and seen my ugly mug. i still have the fish on. when the fish jumped a 3rd time and seen ray in the back of the boat with a bib on and a fork and knife in his hands. scares the crap out of the fish. then all the sudden the fish spits the hook out and he's gone. lure comes flying out smacks the downrigger and breaks. i felt bad though.
