hatchery egg collection shortfall reaching critical point
jason replied to Tim Bromund's topic in Open Lake Discussion
if you find any dec officer around the steams and river now i would be suprised. if they had a couple at the oak this weekend the would have made alot of money. i seen guys use weighted hooks trouble hooks even a guy use 2 trouble hooks a once. i seen the coolest thing this weekend 2 guys hooked the same fish in the mouth one on each side. they both pulled so hard, that they pull the fish out of the water, and the fish was suspended in the air for a min. well the guys fought over who hooked the fish 1st. -
what lake are you fishing. i run downriggers and had a good yr on the finger lakes. i found that going faster 2.5 to 3.0 was the best for me. all flys with spin doctors or echips dodgers. purple and blacks on cayuga white and sliver on seneca yellow greens sliver and blacks on keuka.

honestly i think if they would have closed the lower end of the river, the fish would have been able to get up the river with no pressure. to drive by the estury and see lines of ppl strong across the river, i think kinda hurt the run. also when you have 300 ppl a day fishing in the DSR that also hurts. also what could hurt the egg collection is are the collectors just looking for a certain size of fish. are they harvesting eggs from the just the smaller salmon or due to the fact that there is a a small amout of fish in the hatchery are they going to take eggs from the bigger salmon. just my opinion

I hesitate to be unkind, but the salmon has a one track mind. once every seasonfull of fire he swims upstream higher and higher. Up rocks and rills, upstreams and hills. Up high cascades, up glassy glades. Through canyon steeps, through waters deep up stones and rocks, up dams and locks. From day to night, from dark to light Until at last on one bright dawn he gets there just in time to spawn. Now having done his salmon duty, and having wooed his salmon cutie, and weary from his trip uptown in quiet water he will drown. Pondering with his dying bubble - just why is fun loving so darn much trouble !! though you fellow fishermen would like to read a little poem that a friend on mine brought to my attention

wow glad to see im not the only one who spent alot of money this yr. i just went over my fishing budget book and notice i spent way to much on fishing this yr. not that much to have lobster shipped to my house, but my dad is a lobtser captian in maine, so i get free lobster when i go out and help get his traps ready for the season. then at thanksgiving i go back out and help bring them in for the season. plan to spent more this yr new trailer, canvas top, color fishfinder, new poles and reels, paint job on the boat " which is free" thanks to a guy i took out and showed him a good time.

i caught 2 of these, 2 weeks ago, they fought good, and was jumping all over as i was reeling them in. i was thinking they were alantics but there eggs was nowhere near ready for spawning. so a asumed it was a steelhead

you need to kiss real good ass, you need one you need to know the under water currents. buy a deapth raider just as good and cheaper. -

jason replied to kerchner's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
kerchner you need to kick up your speed i was running 2.7 to 3.0 mph and boated over 30 salmon this past weekend. ran all my leads 5" off the ball. -
yeah thats where i went to watch out for the first ramp there thats filled in with sand and mud. watch a couple of boats get stuck there also.

you will have to check but i believe you can use lures with 3 hook in the mouth but if you going to launch in pine cove i wouldh think twice about that the river is low.

mexico bay was loaded with fish saturday morning my wife and i had our limit by 730 end up going 12 for 15. we took fish on the ice crush, sweet pea, pro am, but the glow hammer took 7 fish alone, but we ran it different. i put it on inside out so that the red tape was shown. there was alot boats out there complaining that they could catch anything. -
if the does not work out for you then come to elmira and play hockey here

They look like a house fly. But they're ANKLENIPPERS.
jason replied to Fishstix's topic in Open Lake Discussion
this is hilarious but you are true about the the ankles biters. i just got back from maine, they have the same problem there. only they are a lot bigger. -
