Made it safely to the and got to explore around a bit. First impression of the lake is that it is gorgeous. No houses on the lake at all. Much different from the lakes I fish back home. We will see how tomorrow goes. Cheers, Chad [ Post made via iPhone ] -

Zach - thanks for the offer! I'm not sure I'll have time today to pick it up but will keep those in mind. Mike has told me that we will be fishing a lot of lumber this weekend too. I love the pick of you and your kid in front of Crash's sign there -

Thanks guys - I'm heading out tonight to stay over Joe's in Buffalo and then leaving at 5:00am tomorrow morning to meet up with Mike in Chautauaqua. From there I think it is about 7 hours to the cave where our first order of business will be to stop in at the local musky tackle shop that Crash owns and pick up some fishing licenses and launch permits for the park. Thanks Nitro - I looked the records for the PMTT dating back to 1998 and it really seems like a tournament that anyone can win - it only takes one decent fish and you will be right there in contention. To make top 10 in the tournament over the years it seemed you needed a single 38" musky or greater. Some years more, some less but that is the goal if you want to cash I believe. I'll be happy if I catch anything... -
Pro Musky Tournament Trail (PMTT) – Cave Run Lake Well it’s almost that time of year again for the annual PMTT event down on Cave Run. This will be my first year participating and I can’t tell you how excited I am for it! I’m having trouble sleeping cause of this – it’s great! I’m not looking forward to the almost 10 hour drive down there with a boat but I wanted to do the event at least once in my life just to say I did it! I’m hoping maybe someday they will host an event close to upstate NY again. I’ll try to post some pictures and updates live from the event (if allowed by rules – will have to double check that first). Pre-fish on Friday and tournament on Saturday/Sunday. Stay tuned…….

All set Zach - I made the topic a "sticky" post so it stays at the top of the forum. I agree with focusing 1st efforts of new club on getting the season extended with the stipulation that it is a "Catch and Release" only season - this is what 95% of musky anglers practice anyways but adding that stipulation can only help the cause seeing as the argument is a political one IMHO. Next I'd focus on how much county and state revenue is generated in Ohio (or other similar temperate climate states with musky waters) during months that their season is open while ours is closed. Remember that this is a political issue and thus should be approached with the "why/how is this beneficial to the state and surrounding counties" attitude. Similar reasoning can be found in the latest NYS 3-Rod law (i.e., allowing anglers to run three rods while not increasing the creel limits > anglers have greater chance at catching fish > anglers more likely to return to the state if odds of catching fish is greater > more money for the state in license sales and counties in hotels, restaurants, gas, etc.). Win, win, win. Cheers, Chad

Larry - Have you thought about approaching an already established club like the Niagara Musky Association and running the tournament through them? On top of utilizing their accounting resources, you would probably draw an even bigger crowd to the tournament. Not sure how many NMA members participated in the event last year but this would give them even more reason to. I don't see why you couldn't run the tournament through them and then have the proceeds go to the Chautauqua Bait Fish Fund - similar to how we supported the Ohio Baitfish Fund. Think about it and maybe bring it up at the next NMA meeting. The benefit to the NMA would be a nice increase in recognition and membership considering how established your tournament already is and the wide range of people it brings in from all over the area. Cheers, Chad

Hi, I am new here and I would really love to send a pm....
BlueEye replied to Hypermotard's topic in Introduce Yourself
Hi John - We had an issue a while back with a spammer who using our PM system to send out spam messages so we put in a security feature that mandated the user must have either one or two posts (I can't remember) before being able to send out a PM. Try it now, and you should be able too. Thanks, Chad -
I think you have a good point whistler. If it wasn't a stocked fishery, then I would be opposed to having it opened year round just to protect the spawn but the fact that is a stocked program combined with the fact that there are not a lot musky anglers relatively speaking to begin with and 90% of them practice catch and release - I see no real reason why NYS wouldn't open the season longer. I know I would have surely spent more money already by this time of year trying to keep up with Dan if the season was open. Instead I'm stuck spending it at a winery on the wife..... blahhhhhh.......

I guess it's official then huh Dan.... 2012 is officially the year of the musky Nice going bud
