  1. Very nice old man - I was out last week and saw one myself - really cool to see in person!
  2. Had a great time this past weekend fishing Larry Jones tournament on Chautauqua Lake. You did a great job again Larry with the event and I am already excited for all the donations you have got for next years event! I had a chance to get out the day before the tournament and fish for a couple hours with the wife. I launched at pendergrast and headed south but stopped at the bridge after noticing huge amounts of algae blooms on the top of the water. Decided, I would turn around there and search for clear water to fish. The steady North-East winds pretty much shut down the west side of the lake for me. I hit all my normal spots and didn’t see a fish (mostly likely cause I couldn’t see two feet into the water with the algae). Kept heading north and finally found some decent looking water on the north east corner of the lake. Started casting there with the wife and had fish immediately. Kate managed to hook herself into a monster (upper 40’s fish) but decided the best course of action at that point in time would be to simply scream instead of actually setting the hook. After an intense 3 second battle……. the fish was gone I raised a couple more good fish in the area and decided that would be our starting spot in the morning for the tournament as it was the only part of the lake I found with clear looking water and the steady north/east winds would be the same the next day so the water shouldn’t change. Next day, my buddy Mike (Ronix) and his gf Jenelle joined us on the boat for what would ultimately prove to be my best ever day numbers wise musky fishing. We ended up landing 6 muskies and were able to raise several more. Our smallest musky was 37†and our largest 40â€. We actually had 5 muskies that measured exactly 37â€. All the fish came on Jerkbaits worked both fast and slow. The new Lunge Lumber Straight Shooter lures accounted for a couple fish boated as well as a bunch more follows. Needless to say, I was thrilled with that new purchase as those lures just came out earlier this year. Finally an oak based jerkbait so I don’t have to try and waterlog all my cedar based jerkbaits to up the buoyancy of the lure and get them to suspend longer in the strike zone. Sledges also put numerous fish in the boat for us. Natural and bright patterns both caught their share of fish. Couldn’t get any fish trolling or on my usually reliable bucktails – strictly jerkbaits for us. While we weren’t able to get any hooks into the couple upper 40’s or 50†inch fish we had follow to the boat this weekend, I was really happy with how the fishing went and can’t wait to get back there. We finished just out of the money and the winning fish was 45" - only 21 muskies total caught for the entire tournament. The bloom is in the process now of dying off and I would suspect the fall fishing to really start to pick up there with each passing week going forward. Can’t wait to get back down there! Katie liked this last rainbow picture the night before the tournament and wanted me to post it.... enjoy Cheers, Chad
  3. Welcome back to the site Eric! Glad to have you aboard. You fishing the musky tournament this weekend? I know many of us will be down there.
  4. Great pictures Paul! Thanks for sharing and good luck out there the rest of the year
  5. Had a great time fishing with Mike again on Conesus. Bite was a little tougher this trip as the front moved through and put the fish a bit deeper in the water column but we still managed to put some good fish in the boat. I lost a couple more that I would have loved to have seen. Fish came on mixed bag of lures - jerkbaits, crankbaits and gliders. Nothing on bucktails. Below is a pic of my favorite lure that that at one point was all black....... I've lost count as to how many musky & pike have come off this lure. It use to even float at one point in time I guess I'll stop using it when it stops working.... Brad - are you fishing Larry Jones tournament next weekend or going to Conesus? I'm heading down to Chautauqua early on Thursday morning.
  6. Rob - got your text. Sorry I couldn't make this one, sounds like a lot of fun. I'll be out of town tomorrow - hope the event goes well.
  7. Welcome to the site Brad - we are glad to have you. Make yourself at home
  8. Nice going Bob! Looking forward to seeing everyone again in a couple weeks for Larry's tournament! Should be fun as it always is
  9. Hi Tooth - That is harder to do. We are still working on an easier way of doing something like that but right now the best way to do is to load the pictures to your PhotoBucket account and then take that link and post it into LOU. In time, we hope to develop an easier way than that. Thanks - Chad
  10. Welcome to the site Struman - looks like you are going to fit right in Nice fish!!!!!

  15. Sorry to hear of this Chris - hope you have a speedy recovery.
  16. Had a blast fishing with Mike on Sunday! It was actually my first time ever fishing Conesus and I was really impressed with the size (and numbers) of pike in that lake. I was throwing my 9" inch jerkbaits around and working them as fast I could (literally as fast I could reel) and it seemed to be producing strikes one after another. There was a small window right before and right after the rain storm that really seemed to turn the fish on. Shortly after that the sun poked through and shut everything right down - didn't see another fish the rest of the day but up till 10:30 is was spectacular ESOX fishing. The lowlights of the trip were two-fold.... 1.) I managed to put a 5/0 VMC Cone-cut Treble all the way through my finger and still had the pike attached to the treble at the back of lure. Have you ever tried fighting a pike using just your finger? It's an interesting experience that I don't really care to do again 2.) I totally embarrassed myself trying to back up Mike's trailer at the boat launch (sorry about that Mike!). I couldn't see the trailer without the boat on it sitting up in Mikes truck as I'm use to my wide trailer sticking out past the truck sides normally when I tow my own boat. Lastly, I should mention that right when Mike and I setup in the morning we saw either a pike or tiger swimming around maybe 20 yards from the boat with its head totally out of the water! It was circling our boat like JAWS before it eventually went back down. Brad/Bob - sorry we missed you. How did you guys end up doing?
  17. Great report Mark! Your sunrise picture is amazing
  18. Happy birthday old buddy! Hope u get that new boat u have been wishing for [ Post made via iPhone ]
  19. Great report Matt! Congrats on the 5th place finish!
  20. Great job and thank you to each of committee members for putting on another great event. Kudos to Jason and Trish for a stellar showing. It was great getting a chance to put more faces to names and we are already looking forward to next years event! Great job everyone
  21. Blunight - It's always been my guess that as the bay heats up in the mid-summer months, the pike seems to move out closer to the lake in search of some cooler water. It also seems that very first light and right at dusk is about the only time you can really get them to bite as they disappear as the sun gets higher in the sky. Mid to Late summer months, mouth of the bay out into the lake has produced the most fish for me until the water temps in the bay start cooling down again. Hope this helps! Chad
  22. Nice job MadPerry - getting the first one is always the hardest. Keep up the good work!
  23. Mike – As Joe mentioned, I have seen this exact same strange behavior in both pike (Lake Ontario) and muskies (pure bread – Chautauqua Lake). I have read reports that this is even more common with Tiger muskies. The strangest part to me was that fish had it’s ENTIRE head out of the water (gills included). It wasn’t like the fish was simply swimming on the surface. I have also read some theories as to why the behavior exists. 1.) Fish is trying to clean gills of parasites 2.) Fish is trying to use gravity to get down a large meal / dislodge stuck meal. 3.) Fish is trying to get a better view of surroundings in murky water 4.) Fish is sick. 5.) Venting of the air bladderWhile no one has been able to definitively prove any of the above hypothesis, it remains a mystery to the ESOX world. In my experience, I have been able to get really close to the fish doing this before they go under and swim away. I have even read of some people being able to net the fish. Here was one video I found on YouTube demonstrating a similar behavior. In the two cases I have witnessed, the fish had its head (right up to the back of the gill plates) out of the water. http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/watch.asp?id=1181 Next time I see this…… I am going to try and get a picture/video. Would love to learn more about this phenomenon… Lastly, I should mention that I have never heard of anyone being able to get the fish to bite while they are doing this. While the instinct of us is to pick up a rod and toss a lure their way, no one has ever been able to hook up with one while they were performing this strange behavior.
  24. Nice going Bob! Big fish and good company - can't beat it
