  1. I'd never survive without my sense of humor - credit uncle Jerry and Dad for that! That taught me how to laugh at a very young age.
  2. Congrats Uncle! Both on the dog bounty and beating my kid brother in Fantasy Football this week by less than a point! Way to take advantage of his inexperience and smoother all his hopes and dreams into the dirt. Lets hope he can recover from this painful loss

  5. That was a pretty sweet fish - biggest musky I have ever seen in person. I couldn't get over how big the head/mouth was. I could easily fit my head in it's mouth (not that I tried ). Truly the fish of a lifetime. Joe is looking to have a replica mount of the fish done. Congrats Joe - that was a true hog! Here is one more pic of me holding the fish right before she was released back in perfect condition. Joe barely had her hooked, and the hooks fell out in the net. This was a perfect scenario for releasing the fish quickly and unharmed. Water temp was down to 44 degrees. Deep holes had lots of marks but I made Joe fish spots that you normally can't get to during the summer due to weed growth (plus he owed me a casting trip). First pass, 5 feet of water around 10:30am is when the fish hit. We also tried our luck later in the day for some walleye/perch. No walleye's but were able to get a couple good size perch. As the season winds down, we might make one more trip up there to try our luck maybe this coming holiday weekend but was the icing on the cake for us this year musky fishing
  6. Wow Bob - way to go sir! That is a great looking fish! I tried my luck on Saturday over on Chautauqua (trolled the entire day) and ran into the same "Lock Jaw" problem as you. Over all the deep holes, I saw lots of marks but couldn't turn anything. We had one hit all day and ended up losing that fish. I'm hoping to get out a few more times before the season winds down here. Bob, Long Point is free to launch out of this time of season if Pendergrast is too low for you. We tried launching out of pendergrast last week and it was really shallow looking so we took the boat over to Long Point. Chad
  7. Welcome to LOU Anita - I also happen to be from Greece. Lots of great people here and we are glad you could join us!
  8. Thank you Zach for you generous donations to the fund. We hope this help raise some more money and land the lucky winner a few more fish!
  9. Hey Zach - I don't think that Zach ever really got a good hookset on the fish. The bucktail was the brown/yellow one you tied up for me. Unfortunately, an hour later Zach cast and got a birds next and snapped the line. I watched helplessly as the lure flew through the air and ended up at the bottom of the lake...... he felt pretty bad but that's just the way it goes sometimes. C
  10. First stop - picked up my tackle box at the Happy Hooker! Turns out an elderly couple picked up the box and turned it in as the had no interest in such large painted chuncks of wood and metal. Phew! Thank you to them as they really made my day before I even got on the water. Took my younger brother and his good friend Zach out to try some musky fishing. Woke up early to be greeted with some good snow showers in Buffalo. It was a cold morning and made casting pretty difficult and we struggled to keep our fingers warm even with some gloves on. Zach ended up hooking into one fishing the flats tossing a bucktail made by another Zach we all know The fish dove quickly into the weeds and really got tangled up good down there and we ended loosing the fish. We later tried some trolling and saw some good activity over the open water, several surfacing fish in the morning. Couldn't get much to turn the rest of the day. Looks to be a better setup out there right now for trolling than casting (both in terms of fish and keeping your hands warm!). We tried tolling for about an hour and saw lots of marks but couldn't turn anything. Would have liked to have tried more trolling today but my brother and Zach really wanted to cast but I think the better option is trolling right now. Hope this helps and I wish I had a picture to show ya.... maybe next trip (next weekend?)
  11. BREAKING NEWS: Received an email tonight from Brian & Lisa at the Happy Hooker letting me know that the person did show up tonight and turned in the Tackle Box! Yeeeeeeeeehhhaaaaaa Bob & Mark & Zach - THANK YOU so much for the offer! I honestly never expected anything like that and to get the same offer from 3 people is really saying something about the kind of guys we got here. Thank you again very much! I will post a report after the trip. Sunday is looking to be decent weather but I am worried the fish might be shut down after this cold front passes through. Should be gone and through by Saturday night but I am not sure that will be enough time for the lake to set back up again come Sunday.... we shall see right? Wish I had the week off to fish as the weather leading into next looks great.
  12. I might have spoke too soon about the Happy Ending.... I talked to Brian and Lisa today and they are still waiting for my tackle box to be turned in I am planning on going fishing this Sunday again with my little brother and his friend (Zach). Zach has never been musky fishing before but fishes pike all the time around Braddocks and loves it. So let's pretend for a second that you are you in my shoes..... you just had a wedding (very little money left over now for fishing stuff). You are heading out fishing and REALLY want to show your brother and his friend a good time but only have 3 LURES to use... what would those three lures be? I ask only cause this is literally what I am probably going to have to do - stop at the happy hooker before we go out and buy a couple lures to fish with that day - haha. We will most likely be casting that day.
  13. Happy Birthday BIG DAVE! Enjoy your day sir
  14. Zach - Things I can't replace like the lure that says "Chad & Katie 10/2/10" you gave us as a wedding gift - priceless! I should take that and Larry's lure (yes I know the one!) right out of that box! Bob - Yes, very nice guy - glad fisherman are honest people! Chad
  15. Had a chance to get out to Chautauqua for a quick trip on Sunday. Got a late start, didn’t get on the water till 9:30 and weather was tough (stiff north/northwest wind) with some rain and occasional snow kept most boats tucked away. Water temp in north end of the lake was 51 degrees. We headed up to the farthest north end of the lake hoping to find calm enough water to try some casting and maintain some decent boat control. The Good: We ended up getting this guy casting a brown bucktail around: She put a great fight for being a 35†fish. She jumped a couple times and pulled some drag before ending up in the net. After a quick picture, back she went in perfect condition. The Bad: The winds picked up as the day went on. We tried trolling the second half of the day and didn’t move a rod. The screen looked good around the deeper holes on the north end but was unable to turn any of the fish we saw. The Bonehead: Called it quits around 2:30. Unloaded my stuff from the boat and went to put the boat back on the trailer to head home. Was very focused on getting the boat on the trailer and locked down correctly that I never even thought to look back as we were leaving to see my musky tackle box sitting on the dock….. yes, I’m the bonehead here. This tackle box was bought one lure at a time (it’s all I could afford in the world of musky fishing) and took me a good 2+ years just to fill. Well I discovered the missing tackle box two and half hours later when I had made it back to Rochester. My heart sank as I checked over the boat 4 or 5 times before finally realizing I had left it right on the end of the dock at Pendergrast. I quickly called some friends that I knew were also out there fishing that day (Larry Jones, Mike Sperry and Brian & Lisa from the Happy Hooker Bait Shop). All were very helpful and for that I thank you each VERY MUCH! The Happy Ending: Someone called into the Happy Hooker this morning asking if anyone had lost a tackle box and that they would like to turn it in! I was overcome with joy and told Brian & Lisa to write them up a gift certificate to the store on my behalf as a thank you for their honesty. Lessons Learned: Write your name & phone number on the inside of your tackle box! I had never even thought to do this until it was too late. Even better…… don’t leave your tackle box at the end of the dock – it’s a terrible feeling
  16. Tom - I will certainly look into it for you. How would hunting tweets work exactly? What would you tweet about? Location? Conditions? Bragging rights? Thanks - Chad
  17. I knew Sam from his attendance at the Genesee Charter Boat Association. He was always a pleasure to talk with and will be deeply missed by the entire fishing community.
  18. Larry – I never thought of it that way, but you are right! I happen to love watching others hook up anyways. Todd was thrilled and shaking the entire time so that was pretty cool to watch. I get the same way when I hook one no matter what the size. Ray – I will post some pictures from the honeymoon this afternoon. I have a really cool video that I want to share as well. Look for that coming soon…
  19. I got home from the honeymoon in Aruba late Friday night, had all day Saturday to settle back in and then headed out on Sunday to try my luck on Chautauqua. I had my brother and Joe with me and we decided to try some casting. Water temp was 55 deg. It wasn’t long before my brother hooked up with a good fish casting a 8 inch LEO jerk bait. The fish followed Todd’s bait all the way to the boat and Todd went right into a figure 8 and it followed it but wouldn’t hit. Todd then did a quick cast back in the direction the fish swam off to (only like a 15 foot cast) and as soon as the lure hit the water the fish crushed it! It was really sweet to see. After a short battle, Todd landed his first ever musky. The fish measured 38â€, a quick photo and back she went. After that we headed over to Bemus Bay where again Todd hooked up! There he was doing a figure 8 after every cast, just like he saw you doing and this time he had one following deep on lure that hit right at boat side on his figure 8. Todd quickly hit the “free spool†level on his reel and played the fish by thumbing the reel. He landed the baby musky after a short battle and couple jumps. This guy was small (still had spots on him!) but Todd’s technique through it all was impressive for a first timer. Again the fish came on the same LEO jerkbait. Feeling slightly discouraged watching my kid brother totally out fish me at my own game, we moved spots up around Pendergrast. Todd again with the same LEO hooked up on a good fatty! After a good battle, he landed the fish. The fish was 40†long and had some impressive shoulders on her, nice healthy and FAT! All three of Todds mukies were released unharmed and swam away immediately after being unhooked. We did have to cut the hooks out of the big girl to prevent any disfigurement. All were released in perfect condition to thrill some other lucky anglers some day. Todd ended the day with 3 muskies and he was working the bait as hard and as fast as anyone I have ever seen. So hard and fast infact, that he actually snagged a sunfish right through the side using that LEO on one cast – it was pretty funny! This is the second trip in a row now my brother has "caught" a pan fish on an 8" lure! Despite getting totally out-fished in my own boat by my younger brother, it was a great time that I wouldn't trade for nothing! My new boat ran great and I can't wait to get back up there and try again! Oh and the honeymoon was awesome incase you were wondering
  20. Zach - That's what I like to hear! Let me know when you start making jerkbaits...... I will be your biggest customer! Chad
  21. Glad to have you Larry Make yourself at home
  22. Hahah - thanks Larry! We leave for Aruba on Friday and after that I will give the new the boat a workout on Chautauqua! I can't wait for both
  23. That's great to hear groups like yours exist as an option for college students. I would have surely joined had I known about it back in my college days (2000-2005). Thanks again for sharing Paul! Chad Lapa, MS Information Technology (IT) RIT - GCCIS
  24. Nice Paul! Congrats on the catch - I happen to be a fellow RIT alumni myself. I had no idea they had a "Bass Club" there. In typical RIT fashion (always thinking outside the box), I see the "bass club" is great at Pike fishing
  25. Hahaha - thank you very much guys.... I am sitting here now shaking in my boots as the big day approaches.... I hope I make it!
