  1. Les its hard to say where they will be.... the wind just changed out of the north west about 2 hours before we quit.... when we came back across we went thru a LOT of weeds in the middle..... the area I worked for the past few days got smaller weeds on the north side then today on the south side.....when we went back thru we were able to get past them and a few miles down the lake but not marking as much bait or fish..... with all the rain we been getting they could be letting a lot out..... I know on Tuesday when I got back up bu Lodi Point worked out deep then went back in and the probe speed went for 2.5 to 3.3......on a east troll !!!! wind had nothing to do with the increase I was cutting across the grain on the wind..... I have not been up in the Samson area in some time glenm fishes up that way.....
  2. we blew the horn at you guys today as we went by ..... both times had a fish on the wire..... Hoot got his I lost mine on the way back down........... got to be HOT on that roof..... NICE on the water .... ..... looks like a big job wish you the best with it.... Its HOT on the water also ....just kidding before...
  3. Seneca 8/7/2014 Hoot was in camp today so I had an extra hand on board………… got going around 7 to launch headed south to same area……came up about a ½ mile short lots of weeds…………..set up headed north 70 to 100 feet of water ……. 240’ on the wire slidediver rig , 67’ on one riger and 61’ on probe rigger same spoons as yesterday …… S/D yellow/sliver with a green fly………… made one pass back thru then father south….. picked up 9 lakers and 2 bows ……. Went to west side looking for landlock…… picked one up out deep (250’) on the 61’ rigger………worked in then north then went out to pick up that pass again and picked a small bow up out in 500+ feet ……and one more landlock about where we got the other one just about 17†so we kept going north this time , picked another laker up on the wire and two more 17†landlocks ……called it about 12…… 17 for 20 for the day…… east side 61' down 62 or so * west side 61' down 54 or so * west side 36' down 61 or so* east side would be near 70* or high 60* at 36,......
  4. Thanks guys , played with the Ipilot more today..... getting it down better , going to have to move the TrollMaster control mid boat so I can throw boat in idle if need with a fish on like I had today .....may have helped..... fishing with top up is much different from the old boat with out one.......BIG change have to adjust to it ...... LOVE the top.....
  5. Not me Monday , Thursday and Friday last week , didn't go out again till yesterday...... I was out deep at the start and end, but dodging weeds at then at the end did pick up a small one out there...... I had been working out deep before , I moved back in looking for browns the past few times out...... close to the same area as the other day but the bows were gone or shut down...... the biggest laker didn't have a thing in his belly...... When I was out deep ( over 250 to 500' ) flasher/fly wire diver was doing the biggest lakers..... getting lakers like this on a spoon with 8# floro leader , 8.5' med action wompum stick is a GREAT fight bends that rod almost in half !!!!
  6. Thanks guys , I left here got boat in the water parked trailer , got King in the boat and rods ready.............. off we go .....get about a mile down the lake and look over my shoulder and bag with coffee , and LOTS of stuff not there............ Uth-O.... wait I didn't put in in after I uncover boat..........back we go ...........now after all that we have rod in water and every thing seems fine...... cold water is deeper today and less bait....worked from 95' to 70' after getting hit at 67' down steady pic of lakers some big guys I lost and two I boxed ...... about 10 for 14 or so..... these two just were wore out , after loosing a few good ones one I never gained a foot of line , I took a lot of time getting these two in and they were shot !!!!! One at 10 # other at just shy of 7#...... The browns still are laughing at me some where !!!!! Ran that same spoon again today but did take two hits on the probe rigger the heavy one and another laker........ only switched out one spoon toady !!!!!
  7. Ok coffee is done got to uncover boat and get King in the truck , another solo trip........
  8. I think I can make a turn tighter without tangling lines in the back , just seems like with the bow mount that it turns/tracks/follows better than using the steering/kicker on the back !!!! But need a bigger spread with diver rods out to tell for sure !!!! Only ran two riggers today and I can turn pretty tight with just those out...........I'll be using it more from now on for sure...........
  9. It was sweet today after I did what ever , sitting in one of the back seats with the control in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other..........
  10. Time to get back out fished solo............ tad late but was in brown mode again......was at spot at 8 am..... set up out deep and time to mess with minn kota i pilot ( REAL men don't read directions ): anyway picked a bow up 55' down on rigger..... after a bit it was time to get directions out..... picked up one more bow same spoon same rigger same depth.....got the thing to work not sure what I did but the control was great could get in back still see depthfinder and X4 and steer with remote.... dropped 55' rigger to 61' and dropped probe rigger to 55' ..... started banging lakers picked up 4 at the depth and lost 2 other fish....brought the 61' back to 55' and probe to 45* picked up one more bow ran into lots of weeds and it was getting pretty hot so called it at 10ish..... see if I can get that thing to work again..... other than set up and when I ran into weeds I was working 65' to 118' bait has schooled up a lot since the last time out pods are huge then nothing for a while..... was getting hit with most every big bait pod , never worked back thru any of them......
  11. You know me Cuz , love the bare spoons but it's been a tuff year breaking the new boat in...........so out came the wire rod , then it was doing so good I set the other rig up with the slide diver...... looks like that will be all I use it way easier to net but you self and don't have the major kink problem if you do keep them tight !!!!
  12. No because it's set up with mono , welded o-ring , wire..... so the mono is bent not the wire. http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing-hunting/topic/45945-slide-diver-lite-bite-with-wire-how-to-setup/ I got this set-up from ( J.D.) Jim on this site with pictures....here is just the text..... ED, I usually fish alone out of a 17 ft. Starcraft, and trying to net a good fish using a Dipsy diver with a 12 foot leader between the diver and lure can be a problem, especially on a small boat.... not much room to move to the bow with the rod, and when I'm alone it's impossible. I opted to go with 7 1/2 foot medium heavy musky rods for wire divers, and added a twilly tip, with Diawa line counter reels, 30lb. wire. I think the shorter rods allow for more leverage on the fish and are just plain easier to manage on a small boat. Diver Calibration: Take an old Dipsy diver and your regular Slide Diver ( I haven't used the "lite bite" divers yet), set both weights to "0" and hold the divers bottom to bottom with the weights touching.... like holding one up to a mirror. With a permanent marker, transfer the 1-2-3 settings on the Dipsy to the Slide Diver. Ignore the Slide Diver 1 thru 6 settings when using wire, use the 1-2-3 Dipsy settings you just marked. Both divers are almost the same weight and size.... You can now use the dive curve charts from the Precision Trolling Guide book for wire Dipsys with the Slide Diver. Regular Dipsy Diver, I mark the 1-2-3- settings with a marker on the clear one so I can see them better with my old eyes. Match up the Dipsy and the Slide Diver like this and transfer the Dipsy 1-2-3 settings to the slide diver with a marker. Slide Diver now has the 1-2-3 Dipsy settings... I can use my Dipsy dive curve charts Reel setup: Attach a Spro Power Swivel, size #8, 50lb. test to the end of the wire. Add approx. 20 feet of 30lb. mono to the swivel. ( I like Trilene Big Game). Put the Slide Diver on the mono, add your snap swivel to the end of the mono. Deploy the diver leaving 2-3 feet of mono in front of the diver #8 Spro Power Swivel, 50lb. test. Mono to wire connection I can change the length of the mono leader as needed... longer for shallow spring fishing, or clear water, bright sun I can change the distance between diver and lure with out retying, leaving a few more feet of mono ahead of the diver. Don't need a snubber as the mono acts as a shock absorber The Spro #8 swivel is small enough to go through the rods guides and reel tracer, I can reel down on the fish, no trouble netting. If the spro swivel is too big to fit through your reel tracer, you can cut the small welded ring from a larger snap swivel, squish it into an oval with pliers, and use that instead of Power Swivel. Cut the little welded rig from a cross lock snap (arrow) and squeeze into an oval if Spro swivel is too big to go through reel The mono leader holds the wire tight on the reel if you want to break down the rods, no wire "bird nests." I can use the Dipsy Diver dive curve charts, because the Slide Diver is now marked with the Dipsy 1-2-3- settings. Run this rig as you would a regular wire diver...... no more issues netting fish !! I have never broken off a fish since adding the mono to the front of the wire ( shock absorber on big hits)
  13. It was pretty lumpy Alec but we had a good time, some time we'll get you on the boat. Yep you got it Les !!!! Good luck out the glenm..... Slide diver is like a dipsy but it slides down the line when you release it. Then you don't have to hand line in a long leader. http://slidediver.com/
  14. Thanks, That's what I'm running on my dipsy's and slidediver rods is the seven strand mason wire ...... twilly-tip on the slide-diver and roller on the dipsy's...... If you get a chunk of weed on with the fleas the twilly-tip will some times jam up...... it's got to be super bad for the roller tip to jam most times it just cuts right thru it but not always.....dam weeds are more of a pain than the the fleas.....
  15. Hoot , King and I got out in good shape this am headed south and set started setting up by 6:30 am...... sun was still not peaking over the hill yet I had high hopes of getting into the browns...... screen was good , lots of marks , bait just could not find any takers so started pulling and changing spoons ........ was running two rigger then put the slidediver out pulling a spoon also......finally the 61' rigger goes...... I'm on it......good fish ...... just doesn't want to come up...... bring him/her in about 50' or so and the dreaded long-distance-release-to-fight-another-day-happens..... Oh well got the color they want I hope it's one I had FLT paint up for me that was HOT for browns last year ( one day )..... then we started getting into lots of weeds and could not work the "browntrout-water" so we moved out to around 220' - 240' and set back up.... I added a wire dipsy with BTI UV and sliver fly...... 61' rigger goes off again Hoots on it ( good he has NOT lost a fish in a long time ) good fight good fish BROWN !!!!! We box him......later the 210' wire rods goes I land a good laker box him......then again another laker put it back ...... one more time one more laker box him.....about 9:30am and still ruff so we called it a day and ran up to Ovid for gas......
  16. They ( DEC ) has been doing a GREAT job on Seneca...... THANKS !!!!!
  17. Thanks guys just got back in from today's trip will post that in another thread..... went looking for browns today......
  18. We got out at noonish fished till storm started coming at us from the south.......... set out west side deep ( 500+ ) trolled north bam one diver goes 210' out BTI UV and sliver fly 4 # laker bleeding bad boxed him.......... just got stuff clean up didn't have wire rod back in and slide-diver wire rod goes ....... 10+ laker took awhile to get him in good shape but he back in the lake............long dry spell and 61' rigger goes with FLT alpa-UV-Glow alwife good bow about 22" boxed him..... one for Ron and one for Hoot...... turned to work back in the laker area and storm cut us short pulled and headed in...... almost got boat covered and it started lasted about 10 minutes ....Oh well better safe than sorry......wind had pick up some before I called it and temp dropped......seen it get nasty before ............
  19. Wire divers with spinny/fly have been good , a tad fasted 2.2 to 3.0.......
