Trouble: I've seen this posted by you on some other sites as well. #1 4000 rpm's at WOT would indicate wrong pitch prop of which makes the engine work harder. IE. more fuel consumption. Engine should turn 42 to 44 hundred wide open or up to 45 or so with one person and full fuel. Not sure, but I'll look in to what capacity tank is in that particular boat as well. #2 The replies you got over there are valid for the most part. There are a lot of variables such as choke, carb, state of tune, compression and general cond. the engine is in. Hope that helps. Any questions or help you need let me know. 165, 170's or 470's basically the same motor they are usually pretty good on fuel consumption if all is well. All tho they did have there problem's as any other engine does.

Trying to tap the top of the pistons sounds reasonable, but with the plug angle not feasible. What Ted has set up should work out well. You can apply pressure both ways to see if it comes free. From what he has told me it might have more problems than just stuck rings as he bought the boat as is, with no pryer knowledge of it. Ted. Let me know how you make out.

Clarke: You very well could have a charging system problem. You shouldn't run the battery's down in a day. Your engine doesn't have an alternator that you can just take off and have checked. It works off the stator under the flywheel as a.c. voltage and then thru a combination converter/regulator to d.c. voltage then to the battery. It's a combination unit that also supplies voltage to the ignition. Unless you go hit or miss. Both components should be checked and tested on the boat with the engine running for an accurate test. On another note: Are you running a pair of deep cycle/start battery's either 24 group or 27's depending on how much room you have and a switch .

As you said: W.W. Wouldn't be venturing on Port Bay just yet. Snow kinda messed the whole thing up. It had all the right makings till the snow came.

fingerlakesfisher It's coming. S. end has been froze for a few day's now, as has the cove in front of my house. But not about to go on it yet. Few more day's with not alot of snow or wind will do it. If you cked out the north end you drove right by my shop and boat. Across from Pier One. Up until last night the whole North end and main body was open water.

Think your out of luck. There was a place in Fl. that did King work but I'm pretty sure they went out a few years ago. Try a Google search, and I'll ck into it myself. Maby some one here does kn of a place. I've got about 4 radio's (King) here in the shop that I wouldn't mind getting repaired for resale.

No wind last night. Cold temps. I finally see ice all the way across the bay. Not about to walk on it yet. But. Temps the way there saying this week with hopefully not a lot of wind, should lock up pretty good by the end of the week at least for awhile.

Red Offshores here. No problems at all with FFer. But I do put a longer lead on them 12 ta 14 inches from the ball to the release. Helps a lot to detect a small fish or hanger you can usually see the tip working up and down and pretty much know whats going on with out dragging it around for awhile. Same can be done with the Scottys or similar types of releases. Just my 2 cents.

Easy enough to ck. the impeller. Pull the 3 3/8ths bolts on the top plastic cover and the 3 on the plastic pump housing. That will tell you real quick if it was impeller failure or not then go from there. Need help or question's. Let me know.

Draggin. What year is it. Cobra or Stringer outdrive?
-
Steve: Thanks for the atta boy But your right about Jasper. Seen too many problems with them in marine use. Esp. outdrives. Draggin: If you have to repower. Go with a 350 instead of a 305. Everything will transfer over the same with no problems. Plus the extra HP.

Ck you re pm's in a few minutes.

LMAO: I'll look into temp and oil pressure deal for you or send a link where you can buy what you need. It really isn't a big deal or that expensive to set it up unless you want to go high tech.

What are you running for power #1. I/O or outboard? Sides. Keep your eyes off the other gender and watch the gauges.

Must a been thinkin about a new boat.

Tom: The guy pretty much covered it all. Very informative article. Especially his sense of humor and the truth: 1st thing I tell my client's or anyone turning green is Stay Out Of the Cabin & head. Jim: I haven't seen that product. But I have the older style wrist bands on the boat if anyone needs them and they seem to do a good job for some of my guy's that are prone to getting sick. On another note as he said if your using Dramamine I tell them to start taking it the night before. Getting up in the morning eat breakfast take one or 2 with your coffee just before they get on the boat. Doesn't cut it.

Rich: If the temps next week are going to be what they say and not a lot of wind. Next weekend for sure. Just watch where your going and be careful. We had skim ice here on the bay yesterday morning, so the water temp is bout right if it gets in the teens next week.
