Just imagine: If they only dumped the stuff in the bin one day out of every 206,215 days. We'd have to wait 564 yrs till another Christmas in October. :!: Of course if there were 206,215 days in a year, then there'd be 17,185 days per month. As we're just beginning another month & most of us would start fishing in March or 5 months from now, then according to that calender, we'd only have to wait 85,923 days till we launch the boats again, (give or take a few) and try out all those new toys. Bottom Line: Jump on the Bargin Bin, they may not do again for a long time. Gill-T, it isn't hijacking the thread, it really is related to the original topic. Tom B. (LongLine) hmm......maybe that was Lemon Scented Joy and not Lemon Juice that I used.

But ....there's only 37 days of hard water per year. Actually, that's one heck of a long year if 67,001 guys can fish 206,215 days per year. Wish I could fish that many days a year. Tom B. (LongLine)

Hey Ray - You gotta try the dishwasher steaming. I was surprised, it works pretty good. When my wife went shopping Saturday afternoon, I rinsed out the soap dispenser really well then filled it with lemon juice. Cycled it twice then refilled it with L.J. & then put a piece of wrapped up fish in for the cycle. Stan - You Cailifornia boys have a good one there. Thanx, Tom B. (LongLine) BTW - Thanx for the sunshine yesterday. I got the boat winterized and some leaves raked.

There’s absolutely nothing like having your fishing partner try to net your trophy by swinging it like a tennis racket. Couple tips I’d add to your article: Put your net deeper in the water than the level you think the fish is at. Water hinders depth perception – He’s deeper than you think. Actually, you want the fish to enter in the top half of the hoop. If he enters in the bottom half, you have a real good chance of having a hook catching in the netting. If he suddenly dives, you still have him. (Kind of funny how hooks always catch in a knot in the netting) Secondly, if you have one of those nets with a bent hoop, net the fish so he enters the concave side of the hoop. If he dives and he’s entered the convex side, you’ll probably only have ½ of him in the net. (plus a hook “hang upâ€

Great pics. Send some of that sunshine eastward. Tom B. (LongLine) -
Larry - Good pointers for the newbie & old-pro alike. I don't know anybody that hasn't lost a "beast" within a nets reach at least once. Tom B. (LongLine)

A couple years ago NYS passed emergency regulation to prohibit having live ones in the state except in a certain area in NYC. http://www.worldlakes.org/shownews.asp?newsid=1633 They are not known to be in any NYS waters. However that was also claimed of the snakeshead a couple years ago & the DEC just chemically treated a lake in the east end of the state for snakeshead. (Had to kill everything in that lake) There are videos on you-tube showing "Redneck fishing" for them with nets and others showing bow hunting the jumping fish. These are funny to watch the first time around, however these beast are a very serious matter. They could ruin fishing as we know it. As stake-holders in the NYS fishery, we need to be aware of them and if any of us run into these beasts, we need to immediately report it to the DEC. IE kill it, photo it, take it to the regional office. As to the 'Sanitary canal" barrier, it has gliches & needs funding, however a better solution would be to fill it in. The boats that use it are fairly small & carry nothing that couldn't be trucked around it. Tom B. (LongLine)

When the chart is gray, it shows that the satellite beam is not getting a full signal bounced back to it. I.E. don't believe the gray areas. Tom B. (LongLine)

Welcome iF. That Mickey is one heck of a rod. I still have mine. It's tough to put a Twilli Tip on it though. (just playing - glad to have you aboard) Tom B. (LongLine)

BH - Are you sure it's firing on all four cylinders? Most 2-strokers will idle all day on two or 3 cylinders but won't take off unless all are firing. Tom B. (LongLine) -

I put a couple dozen mothballs in a tunafish can & set it on a piece of wood in the boat. Have never had any signs of beasties in there. Smell goes away pretty quick after boat is opened up. Tom B. (LongLine) -
You don't want it totally air tight. Make sure you have some pitch to the boat. Nose way up. I jack my rear axle up to get weight off the tires and use a 12" cinderblock & 4x8 under my fully extended front wheel. Also pull the drain plug out. Moth balls will keep cats & other critters out of it. When we get a good day in Jan, Feb & Mar, open up a corner to let some fresh air in. Some guys put a piece of vinyl over the tires to keep sunlight off of them. Insurance companies advise trailer owners to put a lock & chain through the wheels to the frame. I use reinforced 2x4s to support the tarp. When the snow flies, use a soft bristle broom to remove some (but not all) snow build up. Don't let a foot of snow accumulate on it. When it turns warm that snow will be very heavy. Make sure you remove radio, fish finder, battery, any liquid crystal display item & disconnect speedometer cable if it's water pressure activated. (Blow back through the tube to remove water) Lastly, don't park it under a tree that may lose limbs! Insurance will cover it but it's a pain in the A$$ fixing/replacing stuff. Tom B. (LongLine)

So when I enlisted, the recruiter gave me my choice. Infantry, armor or artillery. I had my heart set on driving a tank. At P.I., the DI said I was the "Luckiest SOB" cuz I got all three choices. "Officialy attached to the artillery, living with the grunts, I'd get to shoot at tanks." The first time I saw one of my shells hit a tank, I was grateful for being with the Oh-5s. You're probably going to have to pull the unit apart & scrape any adults out, shells etc, if you have overheating. Here's an idea for any marina owners out there. Couple times a year offer to pull boats out & run lower units in a barrel of this solution. KCl - potassium chloride (not chlorine!) http://www.wildlife.utah.gov/quagga/pdf ... ection.pdf Tom B. Hey come on. Stop picking on the Bills. They're the best football team Toronto is ever going to have. Tom B. (LongLine)

yeah but that doesn't start as many fights as thanking someone for being an a$$h0[e. Actually, you should take it as a compliment. There are a lot of people out there who are just out for themselves. I always turn my lights off...it helps remind me to plug/unplug my trailer lights. Tom B. (LongLine)

JayC – Sorry to hear about your experience. Glad you made it in okay & hope repairs not too costly. There are a lot of good guys out there willing to help. Unfortunately there are also some of the other type out there. Late season, years ago, before a lot of you guys were born, I had an I/O that completely died out off Durand, with nobody around. I flashed an SOS with a flashlight at the beach. Someone saw it & in a couple hours, the Coast Guard had me back at the launch. Guess what I’m offering as food for thought is to use all forms of distress call, not just depend on radio. CT - Flags are nice but won’t be seen unless he’s directly watching you. Flare guns can be seen by everyone, even people on shore. (That charter probably would have had the Sheriff out there pretty quick if you had tossed a flare across his stern to get his attention) This should serve as a lesson to all of us. I.E. To think about what to do if we're found with no propulsion out there, before it happens. Have an emergency plan. Tom B. (LongLine)

Great thought as long a a loaf of bread doesn't go to $459.00 a loaf. Unfortunately, it is time for new batteries in the calculator. What are the odds the CEO of AIG gets at least $100 Mil out of it? Tom B. (LongLine)

Ray - I go to the keys a lot. Guess you can say I'm "hooked". In the kitchen. One hook for the car, one hook for the boat, one hook for the house.....(all singles - no trebles) Tom B. (LongLine)

big fish question

TIP of the DAY:  Catch a Big Fish & worried about weight loss before you get it weighed in? Simple. Attach the Rig'r cable to its mouth then run back to the weigh in station with your Black Box set to +1.2v. (Definitely put a "clamp on their thingy" first cuz the last time I got a shock, I nearly wet my pants. ) sorry LG & Gill-T - couldn't help it Tom B. (LongLine)
