  1. Joe, We did. We went on further working a little deeper. Hope you didn't damage anything. Report is further down the list. In short we did the same as you. Got to just find the secret for this weather, there was some pockets of awful cold water just below the surface in some areas there. Tom B. (LongLine)

  3. Any outboard electrical charging experts out there? The voltmeter on my fishfinder says I’m charging at 16.5 to 17 volts. Last year it read a solid 13.5-14 volts. It’s a 1984, 75Hp Evinrude. I installed a fully charged dual purpose 650 battery this year. I can’t find in the manual what it should be charging at. I did a continuity check with ohmmeter on rectifier and it seems to check out okay. I.e. resistance in one direction only – all leads to ground. Although resistance wasn’t infinite, it was fairly high. Possible it’s breaking down and smart to replace it anyways? Any ideas? Tom B. (LongLine)
  4. Hey Landshark - Tom B. (LongLine)
  5. Gene - How about a variation of that name: "Nut N Butnet", or "Nuting Butnet". Or other B'Ball names: "Full court fisherman", "1/2 court fisherman", "Hoops & Nets", Hoopfull Fisherman", "Fishing Foul", "4 quarter fisherman", "Fish & Dunk", "Fish n Dribble", "3 Point Fisherman" , "Fish dribbler", "Dribbling Fishman", "Dunk & Dribble", "Dribble n Dunk"... 6. Stix - You did better than a lot of guys did. Myself included. That's a big laker. Was it porky or skinny? Tom B. (LongLine)
  7. Well, I’m wearing it for the 1st time in the new season..... Guess I better hit Wegman’s for some tomato juice. Launched around 6:15 at the Genny with my son. Met Reel Drag at the launch. (Nice meeting you Joe. Hope you did better than we did. Liked the shirt – Semper Fi) Went west 15-40FOW past Long Pond & then back again. Lots of birds & branches in the water but no sign of fish. Oh well, beautiful day on the water. Sunny, Slight ENE wind. Surface mid to high 40’s. 39F generally down 15. Tom B. (LongLine)
  8. Out of the Genny, 8 is probably most popular. Some chatter on 2 thru 7, then 68-71 for the scramblers. Occassionally some on 72 but not many. Tom B. (LongLine)
  9. Welcome Pat. Just keep your eyes on the board & ask away. Lot of guys here from I-Bay & Genny fish that way. I-Bay can be very good when the lake starts "churning." Tom B. (LongLine)
  10. Looney, Go to this site. http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/res/glcfs/ Click on section for the lake you want. Once your on that page, just click on "nowcast" or "forecast" and you can get all the charts. (currents, temps, transects, profile) Tom B. (LongLine)
  11. Dropped the wife off at the airport & then launched at the river around 10:30. North 2 lanes at the launch blocked off & water’s higher than last spring. 7 trailers in lot. Bright & sunny, couple wispy clouds, very slight S breeze. River surface 51F, mud basically straight out & East. Green water off Russell & in close. Worked 10-30 FOW. Surfaces 41-47F. 1 small stlhd off board in 17 FOW right at 12:00 noon. (Storm Firetiger) Couple boats out deep but didn't hear anyone hitting much. Uncranked my unitroll with the probe on it a little too far. Oh, well, something to do tonight. Boy that felt good to be on the water. :!: I don’t believe I was able to get my first sunburn of the year. Off at 3:00. Tom B. (LongLine)
  12. GB - I bought my rigg'rs & Sub-T from them. Very fast delivery. (that sounds like a great price) Tom B. (LongLine)
  13. BD - I don't know anyone that would argue with that. Rig'rs are expensive but IMO are the way to go. You might find something on e-bay. As L&M said checkout the last few pages of the site. Also checkout the Article section. Tom B. (LongLine)
  14. BD Huh? I'm not from Pa, but if legal to use 2 rods, I'd find out how the locals do it & rig one up that way...then rig the other the "western" way & try it. I'd guess Lakers would go for it & you just might show the locals a thing or two. BTW, welcome to the board. Tom B. (LongLine)
  15. Motoman - Sorry to hear the skunk squeeling. Few things to try: 1 -Got'ta get them boards right up on shore this early. 2 - if you troll in a certain direction for a while with nothing happening think about backtracking (reverse your direction) for a bit. 3 - Drag the bottom. Get those lures down. 4 - Loooooooonnng leads on flatlines or riggers. 5 - stealth, stealth, and more stealth Tom B. (LongLine)
  16. Off the wall idea: Get a 2 x 4 & cut the right size hole at the 30 degree angle down in the shop. if you're happy with how the holder fits in the wood then hold the wood on the boat and use it as a guide for the hole saw. Tom B. (LongLine)
  17. Brown. Tom B. (LongLine)
  18. Yank - Nice fish. Only got to 67, huh??? Guess it’s time to look for a new power plant for the shingle or maybe make Jax take a lighter rod next time. (playing) Ray - You read it the same way I did. But I'll give him slack as he's new to the board. NF – If you want a real great location to explore, go to coordinates: 77-35-53W by 43-15-44N, one long leap to the East; then cast NNW. I guarantee you'll be wetting your net. Tom B. (LongLine)
  19. Hey Ray - I heard the ice on Erie was compressed to only 250 Yds wide. Unfortunately it was 73 ft thick.... Tom B. (LongLine)

  21. There's always some Wack-o in the crowd....I change all trebles to singles on spoons. Usually 3/0 or 4/0. Yes, I brain hook an occassional shaker but not very many. Over the years, flying solo, I've lost a lot less fish at the net with singles than trebles. Tom B. (LongLine)
  22. Webster Park, I-Bay outlet, Summerville pier of Genese River, Russel Station outflow.... Tom B. (LongLine)
  23. Looks like what they want to adopt is to let as much of the lake out as possible from the middle of December through the end of March as long as they don't damage anything east of the power station. The whole order (both 1958 & 2007) is designed to help power generation & commercial navigation. They forget that com nav is what has put us in the situation we're in with invasives. However the IJC isn't concerned with the condition of the water, only whether the big ships have enough to safely float on. This low water means a lot of guys won't be able to get out of the bays, ponds & creeks in the spring. This order will definitely help property owners as far as damages go, but if they have docks, the docks will be out of water in the spring. They say they'll favor the environmental option if mitigation takes place. They really don't define "mitigation" but leave that up to the states. I don't see NYS having funds to appease anyone for property losses due to periods of high/low water. Tom B. (LongLine) (Personnally I think Montreal would make a really good wetland.)
  24. Hey stix - Good luck buddy. Whatever you do, Mid-life cr@p or not, don't give up fishing. Tom B. (LongLine)
  25. FA? - Before you can them, get yourself some ladderback tape. Try the silver, purple, greens & glows. Also some medium/large size eyes. (i.e make up some "spooks") Remove old tape (I use UN-DO to remove old tape) Try this on the black & white spoons. On the white & white ones, try some of the "Mountain-Dew" tape. (I'd try 1/2 pc of the "full blank" tape on them) On the Yellow & white, get some orange, red or even pink full strips. Use a paper punch to cut out some dots. I'd try a "five of diamonds" type pattern. Tom B. (LongLine)
