I'd recomend a clear lighter line (fluro) leader for Browns this time of year. Browns are notoriously weary. Tom B. (LongLine)

You can run spoons without a fluro leader depending on your line and action of the spoon. i.e. I wouldn't run heavy braids direct to the spoon or any line I thought the fish could easily see. I run Maxima lines and put rings on all my spoons. Some guys won't go after Browns without a fluro though. Tom B. (LongLine)

Keep an eye on this site. Surface currents can change every hour or so. http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/res/glcfs/glc ... pe=N&hr=00 In general, the main underlying currents go from west to east along the southern shore. If there's an upwelling, there's absolutely no correlation. I'd advise watching the angle on you cables. Also don't get locked into one speed if after an hour or so with no action. i.e. change speeds Tom B. (LongLine)

I've put an open tuna fish can with a few moth balls in it, in the back of my boat for years, (whenever I cover it up after the weekend & over the winter). I do it to make sure cats don't under the cover and now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever seen a spider in it. Tom B. (LongLine)

Andre, JayVee's on Norton street carries quite a few NKs, stingers, spin doctors, tapes etc. (don't worry - big parking lot & next to a Kungphoo place so you won't get mugged) Boats r' us (West Marine) on E Ridge Rd has a decent selection although prices are a little high. B-E's just off 104 in Ontario also has quite a few. Then of course there's Dick's & Gander Mountain. They all carry the customizing tapes, eyes, etc. Tom B. (LongLine)

dm - Glad to hear you did well. They're a lot of fun solo & really get the heart thumping. I fish a lot solo so one bit of advice, don't put it in neutral or reverse when solo and trying to clear the other line. If he turns and charges the boat, he'll be gone. Rather start a slow turn almost parallel to the way he's swimming. Once he turns, start a large curve and keep him on the outside corner of the boat, if you don't have the other line out by then. Just wait till you get a double fishing solo - I can't begin to decribe what a fire drill that is. Tom B. (LongLine)

Not a great day at the oak...
LongLine replied to nyforests's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I think it’s time we buried the hatchet with the Rag-boaters….'bout 6 inches below their water line might be a good place….tsk, tsk… I shouldn’t say that, as one of the most beautiful pictures a fisherman will ever see is a fully rigged sailboat sitting on the bottom in 300 FOW. Tom B. (LongLine) -
Irish - nice outing. Next time you think probe is acting up, just put it in neutral till you're rigger cable is vertical then watch temp. You may have a very narrow thermocline forming. More speed, more blowback, ball coming up above it. Tom B. (LongLine)

Mama salmon Papa salmon and baby salmon Papa just under 17 Lb. Just West of Russell. All 95 down over 106FOW. NK 28 WndBread & Blk/Slvr w/ glo & silver Ladr’s. 2 ¼ mph down, N troll. Tom B. (LongLine) BTW – another mess from Kodak

They should put the boat name up there, rec or charter. None of the weigh stations would get listed if it weren't for the fishermen that support the LOC and it's kind of obvious there's more rec's. Tom B. (LongLine)

I didn’t go to work today because voices told me to go fishing. Unbelievably clam. Launched at the Genny & headed west of Russell & out to 90 FOW. Let out 97 ft of cable on my probe with a 10lb mullet (“Herbieâ€Â

A very strange day of fishing but after 13 days straight of work, I'll take it. Launched at 5:15Am. Ran out to 75FOW off Russell & headed out. Nice S wind, heavy overcast moving eastward. Bait started showing up about 85FOW and there was a lot of it out to 115FOW. Clouds moved off & it got real clear. (cooked my ears again) A few boats out. Looked like there were a couple way out. Worked the area 90-130 quite heavily. 66F surf, 54F down 80. Some fleas are starting to show up. Anyways got 7 (seven) of these. What makes it strange, is that all 7 were caught as the line was popped free of the release. Didn’t matter which lure, which rigger or how much cable out. Happened at 95, 85, 75, 50, & 35. I've had hits once or twice popping the lines on an outing, but never this. BTW - where are the bigger ones? Tom B. (LongLine) Anyone ever stop & jig out there???

what to look for when buying used boats
LongLine replied to emptynet's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
e-net - Mechanic & quaified marine surveyor are good tips. Take a read through this article. http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/buying.htm Myself, I'd get a written warranty. Tom B. (LongLine) -
DM - reply got zapped so here it is again. Less than 12 and greater than 68 are the normal channels. 3 for a fleet of garbage trucks in Rochester, 9 usually for hailing, 13 for commercial to seaway control, 16 for distress 22 for CG to CG & 28 for the French broa...er...lady. Best to scan & find the channel of the day. Tom B. (LongLine)

2007 Lake Ontario United Fishing Tournament
LongLine replied to TOP SECRET's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Given the choices: 1. Own guns, shoot Bambi, eat veal 2. Own veal, shoot guns, eat Bambi or 3. Own Bambi, shoot veal, eat guns I'd probably vote for choice #2 as murder & owning someone are illegal . oh...you mean the deer story? ... IMO - If you're not going to eat it, then practice C&R. Tom B. (LongLine) -
Hey Y.T. - Try salmon fishing solo sometime. Then it's 4 one. Waves, boat, gear & fish against the fisherman. Tom B. (LongLine)

Ray - I don't speak computereese so all I can say is that when you do get on the site then add the main page as a favorite again. It should overwrite any previous address your computer was remembering. If that don't work then depress the Caps Lock key so everything is in capital letters, hold the left control key down and drop an 8Lb "herbie" on the "H" key while swearing violently. (won't help you get on the site but you'll probably feel better after you show your computer who's boss) Tom B. (LongLine)

Stix - 7th & 16th. WTG. Read you post earlier and I'm guilty of a non-reply. Guess I deserve 10 lashes with a banana peel. (I haven't had anything intelligent to say lately & haven't been able to get out either.) BTW - sog = speed over ground or speed on graph? Tom B. (LongLine) -
nc-03 Sounds like you had a banner day. (I had to work all frig'n day) By all means post the pix. Tom B. (LongLine)
