  1. Before messing with carbs, make sure your sparking all your cylinders. 9 mph full throttle is classic when you've only got two cylinders firing. (Did it once i.e. loose plug connection) Tom B. (LongLine)
  2. Catch that cable just once in the prop & I'll guarantee you'll come up with a way to mount them in the back corners of you boat. Tom B. (LongLine)
  3. The grease allows the drag washers to slip when a fish first hits & takes line. i.e. prevents sticking. Alan Tani recommends greasing. so I've done that for many years & never had an issue with my penns. http://alantani.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=lv09hvob4dl8u9r2qq3vb5qrh5&board=2.0 Tom B. (LongLine)
  4. Reel it in till about 6 ft from tip. Put tip in water then whip it out of the water as fast as you can. Generally that'll cut the buggers right off. Tom B. (LongLine)
  5. That is very possible. The boat safety course has a section about not letting anyone swim around boats in a marina for that very reason. Tom B. (LongLine)
  6. If you're going to put the crimp between the legs of the black's release on an un-coated cable, you'll need something bigger than the standard rigger crimp. I buy foot long pieces of 1/16" copper tubing at Home Depot & cut it about 1/2" long. When it crimps, it's much bigger than the holes in the release and won't slip thru. On coated wire I sometimes do the same or I use an electrical crimp which are crimped on top of a plastic tube ( like what comes on a can of WD-40 spray) Doesn't hurt the coated cable at all as the plastic extends thru the release legs. 7. Actually the only cure for sea-sickness is to find an 18" diameter Oak or Maple tree and hug the "heck" out of it for about 2 minutes. Tom B. (LongLine)
  8. I can make that for you out of wood but I would strongly advise against using wood. The pipe will eventually crush the wood grains and go out of shape. Also swelling and contraction will be a problem. Tom B. (LongLine)
  9. With everything off you have a charge????? Is your battery in a plastic box? Tom B. (LongLine)
  10. You'd save yourself a lot of anxiety if you use a rigg'r board. Mount your rigg'rs on the board. Have you board screw down into the tracks if you like. Remove the whole thing when/if you want a "clean" gunwale. Tom B. (LongLine)
  11. I'm a lousy artist. That's the clip that attaches the swivel to the ball. Tom B. (LongLine)
  12. If you know a person is apt to get sea-sick, let them drive the boat. It gives them something to concentrate on rather than the motion of the boat. Tom B. (LongLine)
  13. Ditto Tim. Big-O is an entirely different eco-system. Tom B. (LongLine)
  14. WTG. That's quite a porker. Tom B. (LongLine)
  15. This time of year, a look at surface temps will give you an indication of upwellings. Best to go by down temps to fish the right depth. Tom B. (LongLine)
  16. I asked him if it was a long distance call. He said yes, so I put the phone (land line) on a chair & let him talk while I fed the dogs . He hung up after a couple minutes. Tom B. (LongLine)
  17. You have one of these two conditions happening: It doesn't have to slip/slide. Vibration alone will do the cutting. Tom B. (LongLine)
  18. Your release is catching on the coil wrapping of the wire & when the ball spins, it spins also. The Blacks should be above the cable/cannonball swivel. To do this, cut the swivel off, cut the wire off the Black's. String your cable thru the holes in the release. Place a crimp between the legs( to pin it in place). Re-attach the swivel with appropriate crimps. Tom B. (LongLine)
  19. The extra weight is taking the line way below the plane of the diver. Consider putting an extra swivel on the diver where you attach the line. (so your line clears the rim of the diver as it is tilted in the water.) Tom B. (LongLine)
  20. It's on the internet, it must be true! Tom B. (LongLine)
  21. Welcome to the site. Right now it's tough on everyone. A lot of guys staying less than 10 FOW looking for Lakers & browns. Some reports of the salmon out deep but really not that many. I think last couple of years have spoiled all of us. Check thru the report sections & good luck. Tom B. (LongLine)
  22. Welcome to the site. I'm guessing they're deep but high in the water column. Haven't been out in a while myself. Not to many being caught right now. Tom B. (LongLine)
  23. Definitely will be flat for a ways out. Tom B. (LongLine)
  24. As soon as you detect this, pop your line free from your release and let it set a little before reeling it in to reattach. Tom B. (LongLine)
  25. It's a radical change in the density of the lake bottom, i.e. mud, sediment, rock, all at the same level as the bottom. Tom B. (LongLine)
