  2. I like hanging around and will go to all depths to catch a salmon. I prefer freshwater as salt gives me a rash. What am I? Tom B. (LongLine)
  3. Pardon me, but Wed, Thur Friday is a frabil 1 man flip over? Tom B. (LongLine)
  4. There will be a lot of upward force on that little engine. If you race in with it in neutral the water will lift it even higher and when you slow down it will slam back into its down position. Your bracket needs to be well re-enforced & the engine securely attached to it. (chain that little guy!) If you have it locked so it can't lift anymore then it will rev & do some damage. Best if you can figure a way to lift it out of the water. Can you make a pole hook to grab the back of it & lift? I learned the hard way & if I hadn't had it chained, I would have lost it all. BTW anyone ever hook a cowl of the Genny for a 9.8 merc? Tom B. (LongLine)
  5. ...after you've spent one heck of a lot of money.. Tom B. (LongLine)
  6. Work on your education: Try learning to read out loud, especially children's book. Become a pro at remodeling...start with repainting the baby's room then child proof everything. Learn to assemble baby furniture & fix broken toys...There'll be a real need for that. Become a gourmet cook...well, maybe not gourmet but anything more that hot dogs & eggs. Definitely take some time to find out where all the dishes and pans go...after you master washing them. Study the grocery adds so you know when to go shopping and can get good deals. Wash & put about an inch of wax on your vehicle cuz colder days are coming and it may not warm up for another 5-6 months. Congratulations. Tom B. (LongLine) P.S. Ask Ray K for directions to that Amish store.
  7. Welcome to the site Kate. Wish I had a cure for the gobies. I'd venture a guess that under the gobies, you'll find a lot of quagas. Tom B. (LongLine)
  8. It's often advantageous to be able to kneel on something - like the back seat - to keep your balance when setting the line. Tom B. (LongLine)
  9. It doesn't have to be changed from use, obviously. However, did you change it after you had it out for the last time the year before? Tom B. (LongLine)
  10. Yes, where the cable attaches to the probe needs to be stripped, otherwise the probe signal won't go into the cable. Tom B. (LongLine)
  11. Out of the box….Anything you mount to the gunwales will require a backing plate. Therefore think about making two aluminum angle support brackets. Screw/bolt to floor behind seat near the gunwales. Attach a board to brackets with another angle screwed/bolted to board. Thread support brackets so board is easily removable. Board will rest on gunwales but be supported by the main support brackets. Tom B. (LongLine)
  12. Please stand in the front of your boat and take a picture of the stern showing the seat/bench position and gunwales. With a little ingenuity you may be able to put a board around them. My unitrolls have swivel bases that lock at 45 degrees. Tom B. (LongLine)
  13. Well, just had to see the sunrise over the water one more time this year: Obviously launched before sunrise this morning. 2 guys already launched. Had to use the passenger side dock which was quite a trick for me, in the dark. Anyways, made it in & headed out. Clear sky, slight south wind. Warm morning & very little current. River 65.5F on surface. Didn’t mark anything going out. Little guy trolling middle of pierheads; Charter approaching from the left; another closing on my stern and three guys casting off Charlotte…Yikes! Kind of hard geting out the river this time of year without P-ing someone off. I didn’t see any scrambling or hear anything so I must have made it okay. Anyways, took a left and went outside of the pack again. About 30 FOW, green j-plug (new one this time) took a little king, about 23â€. Down 19, medium lead, 3 mph. Didn’t hear a lot being caught on the radio. Counted 27 boats around the mouth. Mostly the “big†guys. Stayed in the area till about 8 then headed out to 85FOW, off Russell. All kinds of bait 97-115FOW. Some really huge pods. Had two releases on spoons but wasn’t fast enough. Wind changed around 9 to out of the west. Stayed out till 10 then called it a season. Maybe 10 trailers in the lot. A little boat was pulling out & they said they got 6,up-river, casting. 6 what – I don’t know. Attendant was there with his golf clubs. Joe’s a great guy. Hope to see him next year. Got the boat home, pulled all the gear out. I’m done for the year. Good luck to anyone still in. Tom B. (LongLine)
  14. Welcome back and welcome to the site. Tom B. (LongLine)
  15. Herbies track much better than the same weight cannon ball. I run a 10 lb Herbie on one rigg'r & a 14 Lb homemade "missle" on the probe. Whatever you run, make sure your rigg'r can handle it. Tom B. (LongLine)
  16. Great story Rick. I used to find all kinds of J-plugs floating around the river this time of year. Tom B. (LongLine)
  17. Yes, quite a few being caught. Keyword being "undersail." The lake's big enough for everyone. Unfortunately, too many under power, with one or no sail up, think they own the lake and every one else has to get out of their way. They don't realize it's also pretty hard to steer with a bunch of lines out, much more so when you have a screamer on. Tom B. (LongLine)
  18. HB - yep. PH - Thanx. Tom B. (LongLine)
  19. Well, haven’t been out for 2 months so figured I better get out there before it’s over. Launched at the river before sunrise. Surprised that there were 4 trailers already out. Water is low, as to be expected, but no problem putting in. Some clouds towards the horizon, south wind, river temp 63F 19 guys on Summerville. Couple on Charlotte. Wove thru 8 boats hanging around the mouth. Headed towards the deep sde of the pack. This is what it’s all about. Any day you get up & can see this, you know is going to be a good day…. Anyways, stacked a 25 yr old green J-plug beneath a modified NK Mongoose at 17 down over 37 FOW and the old timer fooled this guy: I had forgotten what a pain in the butt treble hooks are, but the mess in the net reminded me. Looked around and saw 37 boats hugging the mouth so decided to head towards the station running between 30-40 FOW. Caught a little brown on the Mongoose and that was all. Definitely colder on the west side of the piers. Guessing the south wind was bringing it in. I had 52 on the bottom in 30 ft. Winds picked up around 9:30 so decided to head in. I’m sure there was some cussing as 9 big ragboats were heading out. Good luck to anyone still fishing. Tom B. (LongLine)
  20. Keep your eyes open for mylar tinsel this fall. Some types of Christmas tree stuff works well. Tom B. (LongLine)
  21. Happy Birthday Hank. Tom B. (LongLine)

  24. This is amazing. Must have taken a lot of hard work to locate. Tom B. (LongLine)
  25. A lot off good points made in this thread. Just some thoughts: Survival rates are in the 7-15% range and they do fluctuate from year to year. Pen rearing has definitely helped returns to certain ports, however survival rates outside the pens are a different subject. . Percentages of wild fish are percentages of those returning. The hatchery does see thousands every year however that is a long ways from millions. . A lot of charters that don't catch some decent Kings in a limited time will often target other species. i.e. Lakers & browns that BTW are getting huge. Along with the legal length limit, there's also a daily limit. Tom B. (LongLine)
