  2. I believe JayVee's on Norton St. still repairs reels. (Note they moved a couple/few years ago east down past Portland. If you're interested in doing it yourself check out alantani.com. He has great tutorials with all kinds of pictures for many many reels. Tom B. (LongLine)
  3. IMO, the secret is drag. Light line - you have to let them run & tire themselves out. Tom B. (LongLine)
  4. None of the Salmon or Trout in the bays this time of year care about structure. All they care about is food & their survival. i.e. You'll run into them almost anywhere. Tom B. (LongLine)
  5. Just south of the channel markers it drops off real quick. Amazing what fish hold up there. East side of bay just north of bridge is very steep. Watch out for that "finger that juts out about 1/4 mi south of the markers. Tom B. (LongLine)
  6. RS - definitely buy a bulk spool if you can spring for it. Tom B. (LongLine)
  7. How about one of those herring gizmos with the dill pickle & onion? Tom B. (LongLine)
  8. Don't know how busy he is right now but Hank is the go-to guy. Tom B. (LongLine)

  11. Hostess chocolate cupcakes. Looks like I have to find a new one this year. Tom B. (LongLine)
  12. So cute. Must have been a shock. Tom B. (LongLine)
  13. I'd get someone to hold the rod while i wind off about 25 ft and let the line run between my finger & thumb. If you get any whitish color residue then throw that line out. It's the plastizier comming out. Other wise go ahead & use it. Not so much cold temps, but hot temps can destroy the line. Mono will dry out. One trick some guys use is to wind that line onto a 3rd reel and use the 3rd reel. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Tom B. (LongLine)
  14. yep, yep, yep.... Tom B. (LongLine)
  15. 3 ramps were beautifully clear on Sunday. Monster log blocking the southern one. Some one cleanned & swept it up as two weeks ago everything was blocked by driftwood. Bottom of side boards on the docks just touching the water. Tom B. (LongLine)
  16. Actually I've gone digital but that's why there's drool all over my screen. Tom B. (LongLine)
  17. As soon as I get them out of the net, I remove the hook, snap a picture, let them go and savor the moment. Tom B. (LongLine)
  18. Check out the links that Sk8 posted. They're water "creatures" that came over in ballast tanks of ocean going ships. Tom B. (LongLine)
  19. Mark - I run 12 lb copoly on the rigg'rs with spoons & 20 for a flasher. However I'm also known for checking lures every 20 minutes or so and feeling line for nicks, abrassion etc. Fleas will build up too much on the vertical section of line down to the rigg'rs if left down too long. 20. rbiz, When you're reeling in a line and see a glob of them...continue reeling until they're about 6-10 ft from your rod tip then put the tip in the water and whip it skyward. Often the water resistance against the line will cut them off. Some guys beat the surface of the water with the tip but I think that increases your chances of breaking the rod. Tom B. (LongLine)
  21. Chas - Rather than use a threaded rod use a length of rope. i.e. if the bucket is 14" across then use a rope 24" long. Simply knot both ends thru the handle holes. This way your tow rope won't go to one side and can't get frayed on anything. Tom B. (LongLine)
  22. First thing is to see how slow it will go. i.e. on your shakedown, see what happens. Tilt the outdrive all the way down as it'll tend to push the bow into the water. You can purchase drift socks or trolling bags that attach towards the bow. However if you can't get down to the 2 mph range you might want to consider getting a small outboard for use as a kicker motor. You'll also save a bit of money on the fuel bill trolling with the smaller engine.. Tom B. (LongLine)
  23. Welcome to the site. There's been a couple reports from the south shore but more should start coming in this weekend. Tom B. (LongLine)
