Regardless of the q-back, Frisco has a pretty decent looking team. I don't remember Montana running all that much. I do remember Rice leading the league in receptions for quite a few years. (I do prefer the Pats tho...) Go Giants go...home. oooppps, my bad - they did a few weeks ago didn't they Pete? That's okay though, it gives them more practice time for next season. Maybe they'll watch a few more game films or better yet watch some good football teams play. As for the Bills - I don't believe we have to pay to keep them in Western NY! Their play book this year has been obvious - Good run back, good pass play, good run play, interception.... arrrgh! Tom B. (LongLine)

Don't worry Stan. Looks like Frisco & the Patriots are going to be in the big one. Tom B. (LongLine)

If you're going to make your own...Klein steel has an outlet store on Lyell Ave near Mt Read. They sell metal left over from bigger jobs & sell aluminum. I picked up some 1/2" aluminum plate real cheap and made my own. (Aluminum cuts real easy) Hank'll tell you "it'll probably support a 40 hp." Tom B. (LongLine)

Where are the reports?
LongLine replied to GAMBLER's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I don't know Brian. I saw 8 trailers parked at the outlet of I-bay today. Fairly large trailers too. Didn't see any boats out on the water though. Decent south wind. Ramp at Genny is blocked with driftwood. They're still have their equipment out there for working on turn-bridge. Tom B. (LongLine) -

Now that you mention it, “intending it’s use to be†is an interesting topic especially when coupled with “designed forâ€. The bic lighter was designed to light things. Among many things, most commonly, cigarettes (which BTW are heavily regulated along with anything smoking related-legal or illegal); open burning (which BTW is illegal in NYS); campfires (which BTW are definitely regulated in public places & in certain months forbidden in many states – heck, ya can’t even transport firewood for camping in NYS) However It is perfectly okay to have cooking fires on your own property lit with your bic. The gun was designed to shoot and destroy things. Hunters definitely intend to kill their prey (Gun hunters don’t practice ‘shoot & release†unless they’re lousy marksmen); Home protectionists intend to kill the intruders (gun owners applaud when this happens); Skeet shooters intend to destroy the clay pigeons; Target shooters intend to shoot their targets. (I wonder why so many targets have human shape and a bull’s-eye is a “killâ€?) Was that bic designed to light a structure on fire? Try to light a 2x4 with that toy flame thrower and see where it gets you. Now if you want a “man’s†flame, try the military M2 Thrower. It was designed to light and to kill. Oops…my bad…you have to have Federal permission for a DD or is that an AOW(?). (Device of Destruction, any other weapon) Unfortunately the rifle used in these atrocities was designed to kill and too many people have intentionally been killed with it. Thank you for your insensitivity to this subject. I’m sure the survivors of the victims appreciate your efforts to “BAN-THE-BIC.†-

Well Paul, I’m not sure what you would call a “right wing†news agency you trust, but if you’d care to name a few, I’ll gladly look in their archives. (Except for the Teapartynews because they’re blaming fun loving and that everyone should be home schooling their kids anyways) But for now, how about what these guys said: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/12/16/at ... ut-school/ How about Associated Press: http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/ ... TE=DEFAULT How about Reuters http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/12/ ... YT20121216 How about ABCnews? – (left wing – I don’t know) http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/20 ... ity-clips/ I looked at the BBC archives but they just quote the AP. Tom B. (LongLine) -

Pete – Are you sure you don’t want to amend that to “mentally deranged people with gunsâ€? From your experience in law enforcement do the police respond quicker & in more force to a 911 call about a mentally deranged person loitering on the street or about any person loitering on the street with a gun ? Mentally deranged people currently don’t wear a “star†on their clothes so society can tell who they are. What I’m hearing so far from a legitimate gun owner association that has done a lot of good for hunter safety, is that in order to solve world hunger, we need to solve world hunger by putting more “hunger†out there. Is the NRA actively lobbying for specific solutions to the whole problem or just lobbying for more guns out there that your former colleagues and our children and other members or society could potentially face? Unfortunately, they have publicly stated the later - the answer to guns is more guns. Liberal – NO. Impatient – YES. Passionate – YES. Pi$$ed off – YES. Other than to put more hunger out there, what is your solution? Pick one of my thoughts or suggest your own that won’t just contribute to the problem: Do we force non-complying states to contribute to and thus expand the Fed database? Do we force the medical profession and all guidance counselors to report mental instability to the authorities? Do we require mental exams for buying guns? Do we define that mental exam? Do we keep the criminal on parole forever? Do we go after the seller of any gun to any wacko? Due we ban automatic weapons & large capacity magazines? Do we put an exorbitant excise tax on gunpowder and use the money to support law enforcement? Do we not allow “insanity pleas†anymore? Do we establish mandatory lengthy non-parole eligible sentences for gun related crimes? Do we re-establish the death penalty? Do we institute public torture & firing squads for those sicko’s that don’t commit suicide during their despicable acts? I fully support the right to own guns for hunting and protection of an individual’s personal property. (Guess that makes me a “Liberalâ€) even though those rights have been interpreted and not written into the US Constitution. I don’t see any human life value difference between Conn & Webster. They are both tragic losses to our society and I hope to God they are never repeated. I also see a striking similarity: It’s spelled B-U-S-H-M-A-S-T-E-R-.2-2-3. I respect & support your right to disagree. Tom B. (LongLine) -

Account I saw was that the mother was process of geting a court order but he snapped & was jealous of the school kids getting her attention. No I do not believe that. What I believe is that the NRA’s answer to gun violence is to put more arms at the scene. As they have stated “the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.†The NRA reacted to only one bad (horrific) event with a specific recommendation and then added multiple complaints about society, the system and gun violence in general. i.e station armed guards to deter armed invasion of our schools (not just deter student violence) yet nothing on how to help that which they complained about. If the presence of a good guy with a gun stopped gun violence then I guess no armored cars would ever get held up and no police officer would ever get shot at. They point and say other elements of the equation have a problem and guns aren’t the problem. Do they suggest a definition of what “Good†mental health regarding ownership of guns is? Are their lobbyists demanding a Federal law that States not participating in the Federal database must immediately do so? Do they demand that every mental health practitioner in the US automatically report all patients to the authorities? Do they set the example & certify that every one of their members is of “good†mental health? Do they demand all gun sales be reported to the police? Do they demand that authorities go after the supplier of the gun as well as the consumer when the consumer does something tragic? (As happens for alcohol issues in NY) Do they propose a Constitutional amendment that might read: “the right of the citizens to keep and bare arms shall not be infringed upon – unless they have a prior mental exam by a certified medical practitioner or how about just inserting the word “Good†citizens? Of course they don’t, that would limit the 2nd amendment; rather they’ve sworn to defend the rights to own a gun of anyone that pays their $35/yr fee. Is it now required to have a notarized statement from a licensed psychiatrist to obtain a gun or do you still only have to provide a couple “character†references and have no priors? (Lots of rookie criminals out there – Lanza was one & he purchased a gun legally) The NRA has done a fantastic job regarding Hunter safety. Believe me – I am very glad about that and we all should be. Yet the Bureau of Statistics says there are a little over 100 hunting fatalities & over 500 non-fatalities every year in the US and the number one cause is mis-identification of target. The 2nd amendment guarantees the right of citizens to defend themselves. Does this mean if someone in the hunting party gets shot at, that the rest of the party has the right to shoot back? God, I hope not! -because that is totally asinine I have no issue with people owning guns in their homes for defense of their property. I do have an issue with guns out in the general public, especially those that are concealed and not carried by a bonifide member of law enforcement. IMO, emphasis should be in keeping guns away from schools & public gatherings/events not in trying to blow the bad guy away after he has done something bad. (Lanza & Spengler died of self inflicted wounds) What’s the NRA’s response to that theater mass shooting? Arm the ticket takers, a gun behind the popcorn machine? With the senseless & horrible tragedy of those brave men we just had, God forbid they recommend redefining the term “Fire-fighter†by mounting guns on every volunteer pumper in the country. BTW – Spengler had a revolver, a shotgun and a Bushmaster. News just released by Chief Pickering. (Didn't Lanza have a Bushmaster?) Tom B. (LongLine) -

That’s absolutely true Skipper. Only the issues of people shooting people with guns will go away. How many would have died had Lanza had a cleaver? Armed with a cleaver probably would have killed a lot less. JFK might have lived a little longer had Oswald thrown books out of the book depository. His rifle was a single action bolt weapon. ie pull the bolt back for each round and pull the triger. All “gun violent eventsâ€, whether the shooter was a nut-case or not; whether he had a license or not; whether he got the gun legally or illegally; whether he bought it or stole it from some law abiding gun owner; whether he had a drug history or not; whether he was a member of the NRA or not; whether he was young or old; whether he mentally â€â€˜snapped†or not; whether it was in a school, in a crowded theater; a college; a parking lot (as in Belair Tn) or along the shores of Lake Ontario - all have 2 things in common. Let me spell it out for you – T-r-a-g-e-d-y & G-U-N. “Weird†how all the rights given in the Constitution are limited. I.e Freedom of speech – but can’t yell fire in a crowded theater. Freedom of the press – but can’t slander. Freedom of religion – but can’t have more than one spouse & no ritual sacrifices. Right to public assembly – try that downtown without a permit. Freedom to redress of grievances – just walk in on Congress or the White House & tell your issue…right! Freedom to vote - but must be 18 & registered. Prohibition was repealed – but you can’t drink and drive and lord forbid you give it to a minor. All these limititations were established by the courts with the reasoning of being in “the greater good†for our society. Yet any limitation what-so-ever on the 2nd amendment has gun owners “up in arms.†I pray for a speedy & complete recovery for the survivors today and my heartfelt condolences go out to the family of those that didn't survive. They are all true heroes and our community owes them a lot. Tom B. (LongLine) -

Pete - I had no issue with armed air marshalls on planes. I did have a big problem with the "ordinary" guy sitting next to me carrying ccw though. At least I knew the marshalls underwent some form of periodic training and testing. So if armed marshall's on the planes solved the problem, how come we have so many TSA agents at every airport screening passengers for dangerous stuff today?????? That's why there's fewer armed hijackings. Seems to me that some prevention is the better way to go. At least I know a person won't shoot another if he doesn't have a gun. What's that guy say: "Doctor, Doctor, it hurts when I do this". Doctor's reply: "Don't do that." BTW - If Kennedy initiated the program - How'd he & the govener make out? Also remember that the entire Secret Service & the president were forewarned of a high probablity of violence happening. Single bolt action, high powered rifle? Hundreds of Police & Secret service around. Wouldn't have happened if Oswald didn't have the gun. Tom B. (LongLine) -

Whether or not they had "big guns"....two firefighters are dead and two in guarded condition according to the Webster Police chief press conference a few minutes ago. My prayers go out to the families and I hope the two in intensive care pull through it. Tom B. (LongLine) -

I wonder what the robbers were after…probably the guns in the house. Turn on your TV – Breaking news at the mouth of I-Bay. Two houses burning! Two firefighters has been taken to Strong Memorial with gunshot wounds. Police are looking for the shooter who is still at large. Probably will be worse if the shooters have automatic weapons or 60 round magazines. -

The motto of the US dept of Education is "Education for all." Most Police forces use some form of the motto: "To serve & protect." I'd vote that the schools contract the job to police officers. I would not hire "cop wan'nabees." Renters do pay school taxes thru their rent, albeit considerably less than the individual home owner. In fact people who don't have kids in school but own houses have to pay school taxes. I saw the "meet the press" interview with the VP of NRA this morning. If I was a member of the nra, I'd resign & demand my membership dues back. At Columbine, a Jefferson County Police Officer had been assigned to the school. His name was Gardner and he had held the job for the past 2 years of his 15 yrs on the force. The shooters killed 15 kids & wounded 23 others. http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2000/columb ... S_TEXT.htm -

Hiring officers for each school has some merit… NYS has 5,001 Public & 2,567 Private schools, not including PreK sites per the Dept of Ed. (Rochester has 59 schools + 60 preK sites) The average city police officer is paid 42K/yr (accepted as near lowest in state). We can figure in 30% for “fringe benefits, so it’s closer to $54.6K/yr. In rough numbers we’d have to hire 7,568 officers at a cost of $413,212,000. (Ignoring the $400 pistol each, psycho evaluation, training; any other “perks/feesâ€; and definitely ignoring administrative payroll) There are 7,200,000 households in NYS according to the last census, so the average cost to each household would be approx $57. Not too bad I guess. Unless you’re on a fixed income (14% of New Yorkers) or unemployed (approx 8.5%) or voted for the politicians that you believed wouldn’t increase taxes. Well it’s going to be a raise in taxes someplace. All these cops nationwide are going to cost something. Hmmmm…in order to protect society from 2nd hand smoke, taxes on tobacco went sky high. To protect society from flying terrorists, they instituted an aviation excise tax to pay TSA so I guess it’s just logical to protect society from gun violence that they increase the excise tax on guns. (???) But that’s not right as guns don’t kill people. I think we all agree on that. Besides excise tax would only be on new guns. Actually, it’s the bullets that do the mass damage. How about a major increase on ammunition & powder excise taxes?
