  1. JF - Yep that's it. I'd like to know how you're twisting the line. If twisting comes undone & you only end up with 3 twists then it will definitely slip. I never go over 6 because with mono, if you troll too long the twist will cut into the line. It'll become a weak spot and you'll be able to feel the distortion in the line when you reel it in. Tom B. 2. Okay so let me get this straight…you’re asking opinions on eating: 1. A fish that’ going to be - genetically engineered - tank reared in purified water - corn & soy pellet fed - pampered by “hatchery†staff - pumped full of fish medicine and - probably costs a bit over $12/Lb. Or 2. A fish that - grew up eating bugs - lived in peril all its life from bigger fish & lampreys - had to dodge fish diseases such as VHS - carries a fish consumption advisory - has to have its polluted fat cut off before cooking - does cost a bit over $60/Lb (the way I fish lately) For me there’s no choice……..I’d go for a Big Mac. Kidding aside, I don't see anything wrong with it. People eat the strangest stuff. They should put some kind of label on it though so people know what they're buying. I question I'd ask the bio is will it live as long as the "normal" fish or will it's metabolism do it in, in 1/2 the normal life span. Tom B. (LongLine)
  3. JF - You have it on the right way? If you put it on upside down, a loaded rod may release it. The hinge should be up. I've never had them slip with only 4-5 twists. (8-17 Lb mono & co-poly) Tom B. (LongLine)
  4. Some guys would rather be out in the boat pulling their plug while others prefer standing on the shore whipping their fly. Either way it's a thrill to have something bite the bait. CS - welcome to the board. Get any pictures? Tom B. (LongLine)
  5. Whenever you have questions concerning Id’ing a fish check this site out: http://www.wiscfish.org/fishid/frames.aspx Cisco Whitefish I’d vote whitefish as the ciscoes are quite rare and only get up to 21â€. Whitefish get bigger. On a side note DEC is studying the how's/what's to reintroduce the cisco to Lake Ontario. Tom B. (LongLine)
  6. Happy B'day Hank Tom B. (LongLine)
  7. Here's what's going on in Ohio's part of Lake Erie: (Developers chosen & names released.) Note: NOT NY waters. http://www.sustainablebusiness.com/inde ... y/id/21066 Tom B. (LongLine)
  8. Welcome back and welcome to LOU. Tom B. (LongLine)
  9. http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/wxxi/ ... Resistance to county residents who value the lake & realize what's burried in the sediments. Tom B. (LongLine)
  10. FWIW - I've never caught a brown on a fly in the open water. Maybe other guys have? Tom B. (LongLine)
  11. Easy - DEC puts a few in the bay: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/23219.html Hopefully some survive. Tom B. (LongLine)

  13. Welcome to the site. Check out reports section, especially for the North shore. Tom B. (LongLine)

  15. Thinking about going over a bunch of reels this winter so I've been looking around the net for info to see what I'm in for. Here's a guy I found. He's done an amazing job on tutorials. Just had to share: http://www.alantani.com/ Tom B. (LongLine)
  16. Happy B'day Lew. Tom B. (LongLine)
  17. I liked the last few seconds when a 7,000 Lb forklift shifted but a 50 Lb railing, assorted pipes & scattered junk on the floor didn't. Tom B. (LongLine)
  18. No matter where they put turbines in the Lake, if they do, it'll affect everyone all along the southern shore, so please send these guys some quick notes. Some of our legislators want to know what we think about the idea of turbines in the water. If they don't get many responses, they're sure to think we don't care & their jobs are safe. Tom B. 19. I've thought about the chain thing but have always been leary about snagging a tree branch & hauling it up when retrieving the ball. Normally I "bounce the bottom" by hitting bottom the raising rigger 2-3 ft. Tom B. (LongLine)
  20. Glad you made it back okay. It's better to be miserable and safe than a statistic. I don't enjpy reading about fishermen statistics in the paper - unless it's about the fish they caught. Tom B. (LongLine)
  21. G-Daddy - Sorry to hear you didn't have a great experience. Mother Nature always has a bunch of surprises for us on the lake come 1st of Sept. (i.e those 3 day blows can be horrible) My dad used to tell me the best cure for sea-sickness was to give an oak tree a big ole bear-hug. (Maples will also do) You'll get them next time as you had a couple of great teachers in Billy & Yank. BW - Steelhead should hold up. Lord knows where the Browns go though. Tom B. (LongLine)
  22. Welcome to the site Howard. Tom B. (LongLine)
  23. The question I'd ask this guy is "So how does this specie survive in farm ponds? Not much flow in them?" I'm afraid I'd have to see some of his "facts" before I believe him. Tom B. (LongLine)
  24. I didn't get as many trips in as the year before either. I'd only give it a 6.7 west out of the Genny. Quite a few fish but all little ones. Except in the spring, when I thought we were going to go gangbusters. But hey, it ain't over yet & the best has got to come. Hopefully we get at least 2 more good weekends in. Tom B. (LongLine)
  25. Those ships start at $300M. However according to the screening study that NYPA commissioned AWS Truewind to conduct: http://www.nypa.gov/NYPAwindpower/GLOWs ... ection.pdf Here’s a video of construction of the Dannish Nysted offshore Farm. (This farm is in shallow water as you can see the foundations at water level. The turbines are also smaller, at 110 meter, than the proposed 400 ft’rs for our lakes.) You can see the different ships & equipment they used. http://www.dongenergy.com/Nysted/EN/Abo ... ction.aspx Tom B. (LongLine)
