  1. So which is it ? A sacred document or the whims of non-elected political hacks that is the basis of the country? Not giving them cash as some make it sound. Military arms & humanitarian aid etc. The cash goes to US and ally companies supplying the stuff. Name a conflict that didn't help boost the US economy. Amazing how some want a drunk who attemped assault with a keychain to be locked up yet want a guy who attempted a $400 million bribery to go scott-free. Zelensky took it back and said he didn't know "100% of the details." But whatever, it was an old S-300 SAM (surface to air) missle that the soviet union made and all former S.U. bloc countries have them. They're used to shoot things out of the sky. What was being shot at? Why'd it miss? Was it deflected? Was it jammed? What was the tragectory? What else, besides the NATO plane was in the sky? Alexander Pope said "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing..." Some think it's fun though to cast doubt and further "conspiracy" theories with very little. Remember the way to get people to believe something: "Keep it simple; exagerate it; and repeat it often." (Know who said that? Joseph Goebbels) TT - Dems have 50. Rand Paul (Libertarian, is counted as far right Repub.) Only one seat in Georgia up for re-election. Senators have staggered elections.
  2. Constitution is the basis, however when SCOTUS can interpret it one way one day then interpret it completely differently on another day......hmmm. Many constitutional decisions have been reversed by subsequent courts. Unfortunately no law is foolproof. There are always loop-holes. There is always someone who finds a way around them. Additionally, society is ever changing. Do we need laws concerning the internet? Do we need laws about robo calls? Do we need laws about tracking someone's cell phone or vehicle? Do we need laws about stem cells or any medical procedure? Do we need laws concerning crypto? As to pork, I fully support the notion that no bill can be more than 500 words long and can have no amendments. As long as people don't want to work toward compromise, there's just going to be a lot of "noise." Afterall, people forget that the Constitution was a compromise.
  3. R-B. It's not that people don't have the time to research, it's that people choose not to do the research. So many enjoy listening to the sensationalized and assume if someone said it, it must be correct. I.E. "it's on the internet so it must be true"
  4. Executive orders, while not laws, can have the same effect as laws. E.O.s are directives from Executive to depts within the Executive branch. For example: Trumpuska directed Immigration to not allow anyone from 7 Muslim countries entry into the US. He also ordered Border Patrol to separate kids from parents at the southern border. Can an E.O. affect an ordinary citizen? Yes. The IRS could be directed to aggressively pursue tax cheats. The DOJ could be directed to provide further assistance to local law enforcement. (As they're currently doing in NYS by having AFT & FBI involvement with crimes involving firearms). TSA could be directed to perform greater security checks at airports. DOD could be directed to alter guidelines for defense spending, consolidation and/or grants. (Remember Seneca Army Depot?) As to overriding vetoes: the last one that was overridden (by 322-87 and 81-13 margins) was Trumpuska's veto in Dec 2020 on a defense spending bill. BTW, the official count is now 35 GOP spams since election day.
  5. Freedom of Speech is definitely a key freedom. However, all freedoms have limitations and the limitations on FoS are designed as protections of other citizens or the public safety. The 1st amendment specifically applies to the gov't. Employers and private entities can establish rules about speech, to which one agrees to by signing a paper or clicking "I agree." One can publicly protest the gov't, however time, place & manner are limitations. "Hate speech" is called just that as it's abusive, physically threatening, slanderous and/or obscene and geared towards incitement. All of which have never been protected by the 1st amendment and there have been laws against each for many many years. Criticism and "Hate speech" are two different things. The Declaration of Independence contains no "Hate speech" as we know it. Religions indoctrinate; the military indoctrinates; employers indoctrinate. What organization doesn't have rules or a code of conduct? Yeah, time to move on. The losers got put in their place. It's over. Time for some to dust off their ice fishing gear. (I accept the fact that no one can tell me what laws trumpouska passed that were good for the everyday citizen.) BTW: I now have received 32 emails from conserveintel.
  6. Here's something to work on - enjoy:
  7. So I have officially received 27 emails from conservativeintel since election day! Talk about wasting time & money!
  8. I remember very nasty welcome at airport when I got out. Then I went back to school & witnessed more Horse-S from protest groups. Wasn't "nice" but I never let it rattle me as I had experienced much worse. Some found out the hard way not to F with me. I've been an Independent for a long, long time & have voted for members of different parties. I don't follow one "news source", but check out many sources trying to get discern facts before I form an opinion. IMO, to get news from one source is total lunacy. The follow-up weeks later often shows how wrong or slanted initial reports were. I look at the actual words a candidate says, not what some pundit said he said. The latter is mere hearsay and doesn't stand up in court, so why should I give it standing? I look for proposal specifics not sensationalizing & negativity. I also look for consistency and not flip-flopping or hypocrisy. I further believe that no party has the complete solution but rather the solutions can only be accomplished by compromise among differing viewpoints. Until lawmakers proactively pursue compromise, I'm afraid we'll just have to endure the constant whining.
  9. The alt-right prosecutor (Doorly's office) charged the "assailant" with "2nd degree ATTEMPTED assault." Attempted assault means "no serious physical harm could have been done." I find it funny that Libertarians want no government telling them what to do yet want the gov't to be a police state and lock everyone else up.
  10. There's a big difference between 2nd deg Manslaughter and Aggravated 2nd deg Manslaughter.
  11. David Jakubonis, who was totally drunk and an Irag war veteran, lunged at Zeldin with a keychain and fell down when Zeldin grabbed his wrist. He appeared before Federal Magistrate Marian Payson. (Payson was appointed to Fed court in 2003, again in 2011 and again in 2019. I.E. a Bush/Obama/Trump appointee.) So he should have gone to jail or not gone to jail? It amazes me how the media can sensationalize an event & get some people all riled up. Then the real facts come out and are published way down the page. Will someone please explain to me how bail, no bail, bail bond, etc will prevent an offender from re-offending when even serving time doesn't prevent it?
  12. Criminals don't have to OWN guns to have them. The majority of criminal's guns are illegal but can't charge them with CC. People seem to want CC for themselves but not for anyone else. Please enlighten me if there are law enforcement agencies that are whole Heartly in favor of CC for everyone at all times. The only way police can charge a bad guy with a gun possession is if the ATF or FBI can trace his gun to out of state. Section 540.30 specifically states CB applies to misdemeanors & non-violent crimes. It gives judges discretion based on a specific checklist of "NO-GO's", regardless of what any media or political pundit reports. Judges have to consider seriousness of offence, previous offences, use of firearms, risk to community, etc. Bail or CB doesn't stop police from responding to emergencies, investigate crimes or make arrests. If a CB offender is released and commits another crime, my question is why don't the judge who let him go and the court lawyers who agreed to it, get held accountable? How does bail prevent repeat offenders? If an offender on bail commits another offence, why isn't his bail bondsman held accountable? Okay then, just lock him up with no bail until trial, which will probably be 8-10 months later and require a unanimous jury to convict. If not convicted, he then sues the gov't for false imprisonment. If case dismissed on a technicality, why doesn't judge give prosecutor a chance to correct the technicality, rather than an immediate dismissal & he's back on the street? Why does offender get to appeal a guilty verdict, then appeal it again? CB was introduced as some relief to taxpayer costs. (One is not a legitimate New Yorker if he doesn't complain about taxes & hates paying them!) Whoa, Hold it! The jail at MCC was closed a few years ago due to tax complaints. Yet, we don't want to catch any tax cheats. Yes, I'm still waiting for that one law the "red guy" passed that was good for the everyday citizen. I didn't mean to ask an impossible question. Anyone moving south, please watch out for sharks jumping onto your boat and please don't relocate near the shorelines as they'll probably be under water in the future. BLM & Antifa? Man, love the deflection! I'm open to compromise: I'd support public flogging of them if you'd support public flogging of 1/6 rioters.
  13. Crime - crime - crime Who signed a law that allowed career criminals to get sentences reduced? (Hint: First Step Act, 2018) Who required unanimous jury decisions to find guilt? (Hint: "red" SCOTUS", April 2020) Who allowed criminals to conceal carry? (Hint: "Red" SCOTUS, June 2022) Who's had more mass shootings? (Hint: 41 from 2016-2020; 15 from 2020-2022) Will enjoy the new governor, perhaps only because I won't have to endure those annoying sensationalized, mud-slinging "red" commercials anymore. (Hope you enjoy yours) To be clear, IMO, the blame for the current condition belongs to both "red" & "blue." I looked at this election as the "lesser of two evils." I support protecting social security & Medicare; I support lower medical costs & no government involvement in medical decisions; I support fixing roads/bridges; I support catching tax cheats; I support freedom and the rule of law. I support more fish in the lake. PS. I just got another one! Hey fools, election day was yesterday!
  14. The question was what did "your guy" do that was so good? I would apprecite hearing any. The "red wave" was just a ripple due to their constant whinning and total lack of specific proposals. (Other than cutting social security)
  15. 10 Nov. 247 Yrs. Semper Fi!
  16. got 3 more! What the heck! Polls are closed!
  17. Yes, Mainly because he's not president. What'd he do bad? - Invited Taliban to Camp David then negotiated & initiated withdrawal from Afghanistan - Signed massive tax giveaway to rich & raised deficit by $7 Trillion - Ignored gun violence, pardoned war criminals - Downplayed virus until it was too late & lost more jobs than any president in history - Defended authoritarian regimes (Russiia, N. Korea, China) - Promised better healthcare program but never delivered anything - Didn't make Mexico pay for his wall (of which he only built 47 miles & allowed Bannon to make lots of money off of) - Was a serial violator of his oath of office - Divided America more than it ever was No need to go further. But hey, you think that was all good stuff. You're entitled to your opinion. The question I ask .... What'd he do that was good?
  18. Just got 3 more!
  19. I voted at 7:00 this morning. Since then I've received six emails from "conservativeintel.com" asking for money to support the great "one n done" and/ or that guy in Floriduh. The only thought I had about it was how much of an oxymoron that website was.
  20. So sorry to hear this. I had many great discussions on board with "reeljerks" in the years gone by. He was a great fisherman. Rest in peace Bud. (Haven't been onboard for over a month) Tom B. (LongLine)
  21. Under a no-wind condition, there are two main paths or general flows of water in Lake Ontario. (i.e., a two-gyre system). These are attributed to the Coriolis effect which shifts flow to the right in the northern hemisphere. The 1st gyre is along the south shore which flows from Wilson towards Oswego. The second is along the north shore which flows from Toronto towards Prince Edward Island. The currents are stronger along the shorelines than offshore. This simply because the nearshore water is warmer than the offshore depths, hence it less dense and easier to move for the expended energy. The south shore current is deflected northward at Oswego towards the St Lawrence. However, there is too much water for it to exit the St. Lawrence so a bunch of it is deflected back to the west, out in the middle of the lake. The north shore current is deflected southward at Prince Edward Island. It meets up with the south shore current which is already on its way to the west. They join up and continue westward, near the middle of the lake. Together they will eventually meet head-on with incoming water that has been directed eastward by the Coriolis effect. (Around the Scotch Bonnet Ridge) The westward flow is basically split with some of it being directed southward and where it meets up with the south shore current. The rest is directed northward and meets up with the north shore current. Hence there are two circular currents in Lake Ontario: South flows counterclockwise and north flows clockwise. The south shore current is predominantly faster than the North shore current simply because the south shore is shallower out farther from shore and generally warmer than the north shore. The above is all with no wind. If flow was governed by Coriolis effect, there would be no changes in water movement on Lake Ontario. Water waves on the Lake are caused by wind. Frictional forces between the wind and the water cause the waves and water to move. If the water didn't move then you wouldn't see breaking whitecaps on the lake, nor water breaking completely over the Charlotte pier or the break wall at Oswego. You'd never see the water gauge at Cape Vincent rise 2 feet while the one at Olcott go down by 2 ft at the same time. (And vice versa) Even though the prevailing winds in our area are out of the west, the surface winds are what cause our water waves. The prevailing winds are driven by Coriolis effect. They can be thought of as a bicycle wheel laying on its side at considerable elevation. The surface winds can be quite different than the prevailing winds. The surface winds can be thought of as a bicycle wheel standing upright. Surface winds are caused by temperature differentials which lead to pressure differentials. i.e warm air rises, cold air sinks. When the surface of the water is warmer than the land then there will be an offshore wind. When the land is warmer than the surface water there will be an onshore wind. We've all gone out early on a summer morning and experienced a nice offshore wind then around 10:00 the wind shifts. This is because the land warmed up as the sun rose higher in the sky. i.e the temperature differential changed. Surface winds can be much more localized than the prevailing winds. We've all experienced a good south wind at Sandy Creek, yet a north wind is reported at Sodus at the same time. When the localized south wind is uniform from a relatively large swath of land, say from Wilson to Oswego, it will push a lot of surface waves and water to the Canadian side, via friction. The water column will actually rise along the Canadian shore. This additional water pushes downward. (gravity) The water at the bottom of the water column has to go somewhere as water is not compressible and it is constrained by the lake bottom, hence it "squirts" towards the south. The water at the top of the Canadian water column can't go back south as it is being pushed northward by the wind's frictional forces. Water to the east & west of it is also being pushed northward. As the bottom water "squirts, it pushes water from the middle/bottom of the lake towards the south shore. This is basic hydraulics and hence what we call (somewhat misleadingly) "flipping." Are surface winds affected by Coriolis effect? Depends on the direction of the wind. Out of the south then yes. If out of the west then no. Additionally, the You-tube talks about 30 degrees of longitude difference starting at the equator and 136 MPH surface speed difference. Lake Ontario, at 43.1, is less than one longitude degree wide so deflection is a lot less than the video discusses.
  22. went from almost Long Pond to just past the Genny this morning basically from 90-115. Had 54F down 95. No fleas - no fish. (couple light releases but no one home)
  23. Lake Ontario is a double gyre body of water. (This is what, over the centuries formed the Scotch Bonnet Ridge.) From the Oak to Sodus, the current is generally towards the east. While Coriolis effect has effect on water movement, as does shoreline & bottom topography, the wind is the major driver on Lake Ontario. (Generally, the water current comes towards shore at Braddocks./Sandy) Lake O currents are much stronger in the winter than in summer, per the GLERL website. They have sometimes also shown big changes in direction. Speed can change in just a couple days. If you look at this site, you'll see currently big differences in position of the thermocline at Oswego vs the Oak and wind direction. https://upstatefreshwater.org/NRT-Data/Lake-Ontario-Data/lake-ontario-data.html If water movement was due to Coriolis effect then temps would be much more uniform. Which they are not. On the 17th, 42F water was almost on shore at Olcott whereas Rochester had 64F. This morning off Rochester, I had 54F on the bottom at 95 FOW and 70F on the bottom in 50 FOW. I'm curious what other guys had. Here's how water got pushed today. (B,C & E) wih a SW wind.
  24. WTG! A little warmer off Rochester this morning at that depth, but cold water was moving in fast. .
