Evel Eye - Red Eye lure - Question - Help
LongLine replied to cptcove's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
BD - I liked the yellow with black & red dots, then the green with yellow hallos around blk dots. (frog). Both wood. Funny how it's hard to find yellow lures, but those were killers for me. Tom B. (LongLine) -
Going to have to change your board name in a couple weeks huh? (No longer a Free-man) - congratulations Welcome back. Tom B. (LongLine)

Evel Eye - Red Eye lure - Question - Help
LongLine replied to cptcove's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
You'll find quite a few guys on spoonpullers that love the evil eyes (eppinger). We used to get quite a few salmon on the Black/purple ones. I still have a few in my box but they don't get the water time due to DWSS. Some guys loved the chartruse (green) & orange. Also have a couple red eye wrigglers in the box. Mostly for sentimental reasons. When growing up, I used to do a lot of casting for bass & northerns. Only used 4 lures: Daredevil (eppinger) Red eye wiggler (hofschnieder), ABU spinners and real flatfish. Tom B. (LongLine) -

If it's only been sitting for a month, it should be fine. When in doubt add a few drops of stabil to it before storage. If you're really worried about it, tilt the can up on one end, let set for a few minutes then siphon out a little from the lowest edge into a glass jar. Let that set for a few minutes and look at it. If there's anything wrong with it you should see it. Tom B. (LongLine)

Get youself a good fishfinder, then a good downspeed indicator. Welcome to the board. Tom B. (LongLine)

General rule of thumb is that the winch should be rated at half the weight of the fully loaded boat w motor. If you can afford a higher rated one then go for it & you'll never have to worry about it. The winch is for loading the boat. Don't depend on it to hold the front end down as your speeding down the expressway. Install a safety chain at the bow and make sure you have a good strap holding the rear end down. Tom B. (LongLine)

Tim – Thanx for the article. I love it how it has a “pro†spin on it. (Those morons!) FWIW – The Niagara River and 18 Mile Creek are USEPA Areas of Concern, very similar to the Rochester Embayment. Legislators need to be reminded of that. They also need to be reminded that Occidental lost that big pollution suit and MODIS imagery shows how the water of the river flows out into the lake. I.E. where they want to put it also has polluted sediments. It’s mostly mud, silt & sand so they’ll be digging quite a bit for firm foundations & transmission lines. I also see that now they want the 50-100FOW depth. i.e more of the nearshore area that the fish depend upon for survival. Didn't DEC say they were studying the lakers at the Niagara as that's possibly a major spawning area? Here’s a film on a “small†European offshore windfarm from the developer. Has a lot of the construction footage. Look at the real layout of the farm and also look at the size ships they use. Also realize that these turbines are smaller than what NYPA wants in our lake. http://www.dongenergy.com/Nysted/EN/Abo ... ction.aspx Here’s another story about the German “windfarm†that proponents love to brag about. http://www.spiegel.de/international/ger ... 30,00.html I’m sure you won’t see proponents talking about the embarassment there. i.e have to replace 6 turbines after only a few months. Commercial Trawlers At the Oak...no B/S!!!!!
LongLine replied to skipper19's topic in Open Lake Discussion
And this is the lake Guardian. Any other trawlers are not welcome! Tom B. (LongLine) -
Sodus to Oswego is one of the target areas, however Wayne county told them NO. I personnally don't trust NYPA, either. However, my guess is that he was related to the incident in the St Lawrence the other day. A freighter ran aground and had an oil spill. It backed up 16 ships for a couple/few days. There are no US registered cranes capable of errecting these things. That's what the Jones Act is all about and one of the "BIG" headaches that developers will face, unless they realy pay the politicians/judges off. That's actually a "little guy" compared to what they'll need. If any of you guys see "anneometers" (sp) then HOLLER real loud. These things are basically real tall flag polls with wind speed cups on top of them. Tom B. (LongLine)

Have you tried that "liquid " electrical insulation? Bigger question is what's causing it. How's your cable wind on the rigg'r spool? Pully's free wheeling all the time? Tom B. (LongLine)

That will make the bow ride lower in the water & obviously increase the weight of the boat. You may want to put the bags is a plastic pail or something, if possible. A broken bag will release a lot of sand into the bildge. Tom B. (LongLine)

Scott - Love those DWSS. Were the little kings clipped? Tom B. (LongLine) -
Little guy in US doesn't need it. I believe it required of all "north of the fence." Tom B. (LongLine)

Out of the Genny 7/16
LongLine replied to rolmops's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Rolmops - Thanx for the update. Quite a firedrill, so many that short a time, isn't it....especially solo. This is the time of year for the upwellings to start occurring. For the last few years they've been more noticeable west of the river. This year with the shallow water & wind patterns, it may be more noticeable East. Maybe I'll get out tomorrow. Tom B. just got sub-troll??
LongLine replied to jstrong625's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Joe - Depends where you were fishing. Interesting thing about the lake is that while you're marking a certain temp, your buddy who is only a mile away can be seeing something entirely different. Here's that latest temp transects. Each "tick mark" on the upper graphs is a hair over 3 ft. From the reports I'm seeing, we may have a major upwelling in the next week or so. That'll bring the cold water way up. Tom B. (LongLine) -
This is why you turn that feature off: Going very very slow, one rigg'r with probe was at 45, other at 50. When it was turned off, I had 3 lines across the screen. (possibly a fish at 80, one on the bottom possibly a log) Leave it on if you want some "entertainment" or want to see an inexpeienced crew go Tom B. (LongLine)
