  1. 3 per person. BUT as mentioned it has a ways to go yet. Tom B. (LongLine)
  2. That King's got an adipose fin! Nice steelhead too. Tom B. (LongLine)
  3. Happy B'day Chrome. Tom B. (LongLine)
  4. Just a reminder - NYS regulations: 1 fish daily limit. 25" minimum. Slightly forked tail, white mouth, Two rows of poorly developed teeth top of mouth I don't & won't "preach" C & R, but when I'm lucky enough to get 1, it's going back, after a couple photos. Tom B. (LongLine) Keep up the great work John. You guys have done lot of good for the fishery.
  5. WTG 700 Welcome to the site. Keep a brief log book to help yourself remember the conditions and what was successful. The numbers will begin piling up. Tom B. (LongLine)
  6. So how many guys would attend the spring fishing meeting if the door prize was a free BJ?...........(Big John) Tom B. (LongLine)
  7. WTG. Were they adipose clipped? Tom B. (LongLine)
  8. stl - welcome to the site. I-Bay has quite a channel that can be fished from. Also there's a public place on the southwest side near the old dirt launch. But both are pretty shallow. On the River, there's obviously the piers & the state site just south of the CG station. Also Maplewood, Seth Green drive and Turning Point (end of Boxart st) H.I.H. Good luck Tom B. (LongLine)
  9. Another definitely worth mentioning is Hank (L&M) Tom B. (LongLine)
  10. Try 3 spoons & 1 flasher'fly. 1 of the spoons on other rigger 15-20 ft behind and 6-12 ft deeper than the flasher/fly. Tom B. (LongLine)
  11. BW - Fishing does not necessarily fall off. I generally call it quits around noon because: Pleasure boaters crowd the ramp; wind picks up; I'm tired; sun begins to get to me, etc - i.e. more of a preference/age type thing. Most charters consider an 8 hr as a full charter and the time is up or go in to get the 2nd charter of the day. As for leads, deeper usually means shorter. Also while watching sonar, if you see streaking close to the ball, shorten them up. Tom B. (LongLine)
  12. r b - CG will come out if you're life is in danger, otherwise standard procedure is to ask for "all vessels in vicinity to keep a lookout & render assistance." Also - CG motorboats all have machine gun mounts W/ weapons out of sight. Back when Fast Fairy pulled out, CG escorted it from dock with rifles unslung and border patrol was around. (I remember "fondly" being told to sit on launch dock until it left - at rifle point) Tom B. (LongLine)
  13. Welcome to the site gmcdp. (What's that stand for anyway?) Relaxing & enjoying time w/ family are extremely important nowdays. Tom B. (LongLine)
  14. I believe coast guard & border patrol are under same agency (correct me if I'm wrong). I have no problem being checked/boarded by any law enforcement on the lake. (before or after I catch a big fish - not during the battle) Stories of H.S. boardings prove that the Lake is a border that the Feds believe needs active patrolling and as such also shows one more way how "un-smart" NYPA is for wanting to put X% of NYS power generation out in it. 15. Boat Name: LongLine Launched at the river at 5:30. Headed west out to 70 FOW & worked out to 160FOW & back. South wind, solid 1 ft chop with occasional 2 ft’rs out deep. 62.5 Surf temp. 56F on the bottom in 80FOW. 2 “Kalifornia†Kings (both clipped) & one bow. All on rigger’s, down 52 & 65. Med leads. DWSS death wish & R&R purple ice(?). Interesting N-S temp break at river. 61F East & blue water, 62.5 west with greenish. South wind apparently piled a lot of cold water towards I-Bay. Bait clouds at 40 ft early but then they settled to the bottom. Won't be long before the bigger ones are in the area. Maybe 10 boats out there. Haven’t been out there in month & it sure felt good getting out again. Luck to all, Tom B. (LongLine)
  16. If you want sales people who know something about fishing, go to the local shops. Very few real fishermen work in the big box stores. Over the years I've come to believe that most eye fishermen are very tight lipped. They'll brag, show pictures but won't reveal much more. Albeit, we have quite a few on this board that are confident in their skills and are very willing to share good info to help other members out. BTW, according to the DEC, the Genny and I-Bay are very underutilized eye fisheries. Tom B. (LongLine)
  17. Stan - That's cruel & just plain ol mean! You know we enjoy those left coast pix. Tom B. (LongLine) just playing
  18. I really don't need to say anymore than what they print on the cover page, do I? But I will: Look at the acknowledgements. Every one of them has an interest in windfarms. To prove my point: I think Ray K is the greatest fisherman of the 21st century. If he paid 100 guys on this board $50 to agree and post that he is, he'd probably get national recognition. (Ray - take a bow & don't forget to send me a good check...) Back to the report: They really don't go into motivations for selling the homes. I.E. They didn't say if people sold their homes because they lost their jobs in the recession, job transfer, etc. What of the people that would like to move because of the turbines but can't afford to? I really like the statement at the bottom of page xiv: - That’s what people have been trying to tell the power companies. IE when you can’t see them, it helps the property value. Too bad the authors didn’t read what they themselves wrote! I also like that they're pointing out short commings of previous studies because previous studies interviewed property owners and real estate professionals whereas these writers didn't. Tom B. (LongLine)
  19. Welcome to the site. I couldn't see across the street for the fog this morning so I went back to bed. Did the Kings have adipose fins? Tom B. (LongLine)
  20. She has been a marketing president at BP for many years until named to current post. http://blog.case.edu/case-news/2008/10/ ... neanderson They both support the same objective and have the same goal. IMO, to put a "positive spin" on projects that will destroy a national treaure whose value as fresh water is far greater than supplying minimal energy needs and also BTW brings more money into local economies than their projects ever could. As to oil wells in the Great Lakes: The Canadians have operational wells in Lake Michigan http://detnews.com/article/20100602/POL ... illing-ban and Lake Erie: http://www.theglobalwarmingawareness.co ... l-and-gas/ Tom B. 21. Stopped in Irondequoit & got gas at 5, took St Paul St down to lake. As I crossed Stutson St bridge, I saw the 1st lightning. Took a left on Lake & went home. Didn't get wet till I had boat backed into driveway. Then it poured! Maybe tomorrow. Tom B. (LongLine)
  22. Rolmops - The NYPA GLOW proposal calls for them to be out to a MAXIMUM of 150FOW and a minimum of 50 turbines per area. If you look at any of the turbine company sites & studies, they say the best spacing of offshore turbines is a minimum array of 5 x 10 spacing. That means they will be in staggered columns. Minimum spacing is 5 rotor diameters perpendicular to the prevailing winds (N & S) and 10 rotor diameters with the prevailing winds.(E to W) Rotors are 90m in diameter (approx 300ft) Note: what I have drawn is the absolute minimum spacing & E-W scale is small. http://www.nypa.gov/NYPAwindpower/GLOW% ... 9%20LR.pdf Yes they will come much closer to shore than NYPA puts in their sales pitch. If you look up the GLOW proposal and the AWS Truewind siting studies, NYPA says 70% of the wind potential comes from less than 50FOW, so that is the real area they are targeting. Check your navigation map. 50 turbines off Rochester will put the area from shore to 150 FOW and from Round Pond to Webster Park out of bounds for fishing. (with the exeption of 1/2 mile swath for the Stephen B. Roman directly north of the Genny. Tom B. (LongLine)
