Tim - That's what I was thinking but it's right on the borderline. 1 Lb lighter I'd have said yes, 1 Lb heavier & I'd have said no. Was a nice clean fish regardless. Tom B. (LongLine) -

Thanx guys. As far as rigg'rs go - Don't leave home without them. Not too many boats out there this morning. Maybe 2 dozen. Most went east or hung out at the mouth. A few went west but I dont think anyone came with 1/4 mile of me. Didn't see much on the screen. Bait shallow was scattered. Good Luck, Tom B. (LongLine) -
Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: LongLine Looks like we’re off to a super season. Launched early again, flying solo. Headed for the ponds. Good cloud cover, no wind. Worked the 20-35 FOW range over pretty good. Ran into this chunky little guy on the rigg’r at 8 over 25. DW SS NBK back 75 ft. After he was revived, lure retied and about ready to reattach it, the glow Clown NK on the other rigg’r fires. Heh, heh, heh…. 1st salmon of the season. 16 Lbs, 14 over 32 FOW, 20 ft back. He fought his heart out & it took a solid 5 minutes to revive him. Surf temp 50-51F. About 8:00, the sky cleared, saw some birds out deep so headed out. Scum line and blue water at about 60/65 FOW. Saw only a couple small pods of bait and only a couple marks 10 ft off bottom in 70 FOW but no takers. Off at 10:30 with the start of a sunburn. Luck to all, Tom B. (LongLine) p.s. King

JB Thanx - This should be interesting as it's about down currents, not just surface. Tom B. (LongLine)

This should be interesting. The Canadians are going to put monitors in the lake from Coburg to Point Breeze to monitor lake currents: http://www.northumberlandtoday.com/Arti ... ?e=2557982 Hope they publish their results in my lifetime. Tom B. (LongLine)

I doubt that Bob. Watch out for troopers & "Local Smokey's". Counties get the fine but state gets the surcharge, which is just as much as the fine. Tom B. (LongLine)

The sporting laws of NYS are set as maximums. If it says you can use a high powered rifle to hunt deer then you can legally use "up to" that high powered rifle. i.e you could use a lower powered rifle also. The laws says you can use to two lines per angler. It doesn't mean you have to use two lines. The same applies to the 3 rod rule. As Jeb found out that charter was comfortable with 6 rods so he'll probably never use 3 rods per client. The creel limit is 3. You can quit after one or two if you want. How many quit after 0? How many devoted fishermen move to another port after they get skunked in one port? (a lot) Helping others is what it's all about. Us regulars will make return trips regardless because we've caught some fish. Others probably won't return due to lack of sucess out there. Our fishermen numbers have gone down. If we can get "others" to make return trips, then the overall fishery will benefit. Tom B. (LongLine)

No state is doing more than Michigan to protect the Great Lakes fishery. Look what they're going through with the asian carp. BTW - They had such great success with the 3 rod rule, they expanded it to all waters of their state. We should police ourselves - But police to within the law, not to what your fantasies are. After all, if you want to hunt deer with a butter knife, go ahead, if it's legal. Tom B. (LongLine)

If we end up with them in the Rochester Embayment, It'll mess up a lot more. Tom B. (LongLine)

Welcome to the site Ryan. There's a few dedicated "paddlers" here. The rest of us only paddle when our motors die. (Just playing with that last statement) Tom B. (LongLine)

Just love it that they show a pirrahna on their poster. One other fact that PETA's overlook is that fish are cannabals. i.e. if you catch & eat one, you probably saved it's entire family of a couple thousand. Tom B. (LongLine)

Looking good. A soloist came in 2nd? Soloists not allowed here. Tom B. (LongLine)

Hope the charter was C&R. Love that combat stuff...that's why I'm out'ta there. Nice fish tho, lot of color on that side? Tom B. (LongLine) -
Definitely keep your stuff on the bottom. You should be finding them tight to shore early, then they move out a little. Tom B. (LongLine)

Help with water level I-Bay State Launch
LongLine replied to momay4000's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Just watch the Genny. You'll be on the second part of the ramp & it's steep. Be careful not to go off the end. Tom B. (LongLine) -
On rigg'r spoons, if you're using a heavy mono then yes use a lighter fluro leader. Heavy lines have the tendency to slow the action. Tom B. (LongLine)

Welcome to the site Sea-Note. You've got some great fishing water there. Tom B. (LongLine)

In March 2008, the NYSDEC began adipose fin clipping all Chinook salmon (Kings) stocked in Lake Ontario. These 2 yr old fish will probably now be up to 12-13 Lbs and 31-32†long this year. If you catch & report Kings up to this size, please mention whether they’re clipped or not. The adipose is the fin on top of the fish, just in front of the tail. Thanx, Tom B. (LongLine)

I just voted. He's only down 7. Good Luck Tom B. (LongLine)

LongLine Beautiful day to see if the boat’s working. Man it’s been a long winter. Launched at the River. Almost didn’t, as battery needed a little help. Man that water level is low! Finally got her going & headed out: Headed over to Russell & the Ponds. The River looked like fall combat fishing around 8:00 with maybe 12 boats hugging the mouth. Clear sky. Very slight SE Wind. Quite a few birds in the 15-30 FOW range. Lot of the diving ones. (only saw 2 seagulls the whole morning) Here’s the first one of the season. Ended up 4 for 4. All Browns. Nothing huge; all kind of chunky. here’s the biggest: All on rigg’rs; all within 3 ft of the bottom; all with DW SS on long leads. (nbk & I don’t know what the other is called – was green) Ventured out to 50 FOW. Saw a couple sitting on the bottom, but not much, so came back in. A pretty good start to the season. Luck to all Tom B. (LongLine)

Finally, an editorial in support of Restoration: http://www.democratandchronicle.com/art ... a-priority Don't know much about "earth day" but I see this as a good argument against windmills. The laws, monies, policies, etc have all been directed towards "new" run-off water & new sediments. Nothing has ever been done about the polluted sediments that are burried by just a couple inches of "cleaner" sediments. The Lake Guardian has been taking water column samples for a long time. They gave up on core samples back in 2002/03 because the degree of pollution there hadn't changed since 1987. (when the Embayment was declared an "Area of Concern." Even back then, they only went down a couple feet. Turbine foundation & transmission line construction will definitely dig into the polluted stuff. Tom B. (LongLine)
