Fished Saturday night from 6-9 pm. 4-6 with biggest being 14 lb king on leadcore out 6 colors at dusk. Had an NK Mag mulatto on it. Real nice fight. 2 other kings under 10 lbs on purple/black spoon. (Don't know name or brand offhand) and 1 coho on NK NBK, all off sliders. All in about 120 feet off Genny, sliders were down about 30. Sunday morning we were 4-8, fishing 6:30-11 more off Russell this time. Started in 150 and worked out to 300. Very blank screen all weekend. Did 1 coho and 3 kings again. This time biggest king was only 10 lbs. 60 foot rigger over 210 on a NBK again, blue/silver/purple hologram NK 28 and frog took the fish. No rhyme or reason to set-ups both days. Couldn't get anything to work consistently. Where have the 20lbers from a week ago gone? If I had more time Sunday I would have gone west another 6-8 miles. Lost 1 rip on wire dipsey, several short hits on sliders. Seemed to be a lot of current Sunday morning. Light breeze came up around 9 and shifted to NE. Two fun days with my brothers fishing. We haven't all fished together in years, since our days fishing blues and stripers in LI Sound. Rich PS To use the new fishing report form, do you just fill in your info and then delete the prompts?

spring derby?
Just Fishin' replied to dreamcatcher's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Jimmyi, I launch at the State Park on west side of Wilson. Always enough room to park, there is ample overflow parking. Name escapes me right now. Nice protected boat launch. -

I will be up there May 3-10 and can't wait! Final touches on boat Saturday and then in the water Sunday. We stay on the island in Wilson harbor. Give me a shout anytime and hopefully I will have good info to report. Looking forward to meeting some of the other LOU people that I read about all year. -
Jax Report from 4-13 Ibay

WOW that is one you will remember! What cracked me up though, was like a true fisherman, after getting him on his way and boat out of danger you dropped the rods back in for a few more fish! Glad it worked out and nice call on heading to Webster Park. -

Lake Erie west end temps are going up a little. East end still looks cold as ice just cleared out. Need some warmer water coming into the lake for salmon to start. I think another week or so before we start hearing of salmon at the bar. My 2 cents. -
Now THAT is someone anxious to start the season!

Perhaps this goes without saying, but all of us recreational fisherman should be reminded that if we can get a regular string of reports from charter captains, that we use the information to improve our chances, but continue to keep our distance while on the water and let the charter boats do there thing....work. Crowding these guys because they are successful and share their information will only hurt everyone. (The clowns that attach themselves to the wake of a charter boat are probably not reading this site anyways!) Thanks for any help all of you can provide and good luck for a successful year.

Internet is making this a small world.... Read the name Lou Paonessa in this post and it turns out he was the radio commentator when I played college hockey 25 years and 45 pounds ago. Real nice guy. The post allowed me to catch up a little bit with him. He informs me the boom started coming out today...yipee!

Transom Down rigger bar

Ray, guy in office next to me just came in to ask why I was laughing so hard. Classic post. -
WOW! Nice looking boat, well rigged and the tackle station is top notch. Thanks for the pictures.

Sounds good. 3rd thru the 10th for me. I will do the same.

Rod, you going to be at ame slip as last year? Saw you docked there and then chatted on the site here afterwards. We rent a cottage out on the island. Last year was a washout for me with lower unit problems on trolling motor and then a death in the family took me away for 3 more days. Only fished 2 1/2 days. Hoping for a much better tourney this year.

Found this interesting info.... Under the Commission’s current Order of Approval, installation may begin on December 16th or when the Lake Erie water temperature, as measured at the Buffalo water intake, reaches 4o Celsius © (39o Fahrenheit (F)) whichever occurs first. The Order requires that the boom be opened by April 1st of each year unless there is more than 650 square kilometres (250 square miles) of ice remaining in the eastern end of Lake Erie. Extenuating circumstances may require a delay in ice boom opening beyond April 1st. The Commission’s International Niagara Board of Control, established in 1953 to monitor activities concerning the levels and flows of the Niagara River, intensively monitors the ice situation each spring to determine when conditions are acceptable for boom removal. Boom opening is dependent on weather, ice conditions in Lake Erie and the Niagara River and other factors. The average date for ice boom opening, under the present Order of Approval, is April 3rd with the earliest being March 5, 1998 and the latest being April 25, 1997. http://www.ijc.org/rel/boards/niagara/i ... info_e.pdf
