  1. Yes, it can be true. They are in the process of making it very difficult to go into Canada and back by car. It will be even more difficult to do it correctly by boat, in my opinion. How serious are they? We will find out. For my personal pet peeve, drive down Pattonwood Drive in Rochester and count up the cost of inventory in vehicles alone at the Border Patrol Office! Makes me sick. I have been involved in Law and Law Enforcement for 23 years and I can't get anyone to tell me with any certainty what all these Border Patrol vehicles and employees do all day. The most I ever get is that they "assist other law enforcement agencies and help determine backgrounds on aliens." In tough economic times there are 10 $40,000 vehicles sitting in a parking lot. Sorry about the rant...
  2. All of the above. Also, I use a batter called "Shore Lunch" from either Gander or Dicks (can't remember) and love it. Best beer batter I have found.
  3. I am lucky enough to have a brother who is a professional furniture maker so when I say "I am making" I really mean "he" is making. We have about 7 inches in depth to play with on both sides and really just need a recessed area to chuck lures on the fly, hold pliers, clips and such. Everything will come out at the end of the day. Pulled out the existing inserts so we have a good template and will be attaching the lip of the new wooden inserts to the lip that is cut out into interior gunnel wall. Definitely understand that adding wood to a boat means increased yearly maintenance, but really think what I have in mind is a needed amenity and will look good. I too will post pictures when I am done.
  4. I will probably take some heat for this, but I have been going to Wilson for a couple springs and will not get a Canadien license again. I did the first year, by mail, and it was a waste of money. There was plenty of fish in American waters during the derby to keep us busy. I am sure there will be a year where the fish are still stacked up out west and I may have to go get a license, but I will wait for that to happen. As for the line, there is plenty of room west of the can to work a program, but actual distance I can't say, I just know I stay well east of the line on the GPS.
  5. Going to take out the fiberglass inserts that are in the walls of the cockpit on my Wellcraft 210 Coastal. Tired of the wasted space (Supposed to be rod holders but way too small). Planning on making them out of wood with couple open shelves as catch alls and some space to angle in some plano tackle boxes. Will be nice to get some wood onto the circa 1996 all fiberglass boat design. Anyone ever attempt something like this? Any thoughts....
  6. That is absolutely correct. Take the time to do it in person and the money stays local!
  7. I recently bought through Cisco. Very pleasant to work with and was only a week or so phone call til delivery. Really nice looking product. I bought a couple of rod holders to run my dipseys off my arch. My arch tube is larger than the rail mounts he has so I am having some machined. They were honest enough to tell me I could get it done cheaper on my own.
  8. Great comments. Thanks for the ideas folks, I appreciate the input.
  9. Been reading some literature on depth of light penetration and lure color. For example, they say yellow becomes very difficult to see below 45 feet. My questions is: how many of you guys really follow these guidelines and always keep yellow above 45 and totally disregard it deeper? Or green in the top 65', for example. I find that I tend to throw out lures without taking this into account. Was wondering how important other people think this is versus just trying patterns and seeing what works. I realize you never truly know what triggers a fish and on any given day a lure may work out of depth, but how closely are people following these color/depth guidelines?
  10. Thanks for the tip...I will check it out and feed the off season itch to spend money.
  11. I have had a similar experience. 2 years ago it was my best setup, last year real slow on it, but I won't fish without at least 1 out.
  12. I ran 2 Dipsey rods out with spoons and flashers and had 8lb test on....expensive 3 minutes of fishing as I watched both rods straighten right after setting them. Scarred me for life as I always err on the side of heavier test now in every situation, in direct opposition to the recommendation of every good fisherman I know.
  13. The best kind of boat...one that a relative or friend wants to buy!
  14. Hard to tell with the beard and glasses in the 2nd picture......oh,oh, the fish? Looks the same to me and I have now spent 10 minutes looking at the spots instead of working! Very cool and great proof that releasing is worth it.
  15. I got myself a great set of Cisco rodholders for my dispey rods. Very well made product and really nice people to deal with. Can't wait to get them on the boat!
  16. I need someone to design an adjustable rod holder that fits a 1 1/2" tube on my arch. Can't find them anywhere. If you know of any would love to find them. (I am not alone either)
  17. I have an Atlantic Arch that has swivel mount rod holders. Problem is you have to completely remove them from the arch to swivel them. Looking for the brand that you just pull out and swivel but can't seem to find them. Would like to be able to adjust while fishing and then turn straight up and use as just a holder while not in use. Anyone know the brand?
  18. Picked mine up from the manufacturer as part of a "blemish sale" a few years back. Mid winter sale and each board had a spot about the size of a quarter that was re touched with orange paint. Not one fish has complained about the blemish!
  19. Bought 2 last year (1 is now in 135' of water off Rochester due to a frayed cable...ouch) and I did see a lot of streakers to the weights this year. Not sure if i hooked up any more, but never saw so many fish run to take a look.
  20. Slimy Hooks, I was the boat taking pictures of the pier on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. I felt bad coming in there when I heard you were up on the pier fishing. Hope I didn't cause you too much trouble. Heard you had hooked up a few times between midnight and 1. Sounds like you put in a lot of time there this week without much success but it was a perfect night to be out there!
  21. If I am not mistaken I heard you tell someone you'd had enough and I commented that you were the smart one! I am usually on 8 but scan em all. I have a 21ft Wellcraft, blue canvas top and fishing arch. I think I saw you closer to the river mouth around 7 or so. The catching didn't improve after you left from what I saw or heard.
  22. Another bad day on what has been a fairly frustrating year. Fished 7 am til 1 off the Genny. Lost a real brute off a an NK Frog that was in in 25 ft of water just off the Charlotte pier. Only other fish was a 6lb brown off the lead core in 58 feet, 10 colors out. 42nd spoon. Worked out to 70 and back numerous times. Best picture was 50 foot. Probably didn't help that my j-plugs were home in basement.....right where I left them. This has been a tough year. Only had a couple "good" outings, fished the beginning of the spring tourney at Wilson BEFORE the fish turned on and spent the later part of the week out with a blown lower unit. As for the rest of the year, if I hear one more "it was hot yesterday" on the radio I will puke! I just seem to be out there when the fish don't want to bite. I am inclined to throw in the towel and call it a year....but I am sure I will go out for more humiliation when the wounded pride heals.
  23. Thought maybe you had it on copper because he reeled a long time. I was in the Wellcraft that passed by and circled at a distance hoping to get a glimpse of a fish! The waves were those mixed up kind where you can't get a good footing no matter what, I'll bet fighting it was fun.
  24. Chris, was that you in the Trophy in about 160 ft of water at about 10:00 a.m.? Watched a boat pull a fish for quite awhile, was dieing to know what it was. Especially since we got skunked. Glad I loaded up on 42nd spoons for the trip! Never ran them so I ordered a bunch and couldn't even get a release. Started close where the pack was, late start, when nothing hit we went NW a little and trolled SE with the waves and pulled the plug at around 10:30.
  25. Hi Chris, I have commented on your boat several times...real nice looking boat. I have a Wellcraft Coastal 21 out of Mayers as well. Blue Bimini with Atlantic Towers arch. If I see you I will look you up.
