  1. Just curious how shallow it is going to get this year before the anticipated dredging. Drove by today with the NE wind and it looks like a beach the way the breakers are coming up thru the cut. Looks real shallow from the shore. Don't imagine anyone has been through there with the bridge in place. Anybody have any info?
  2. I should be clearer in my posts....it was a combination of coho's and kings.
  3. Very interesting Storm Warning II, I will say this though, on a day when I did 23 fish and our other boat did 50, we could not get anything with any real size to them. I was running some mags in hopes of catching something bigger, but no luck on them at all. Our speed was also very fast, because it was working, maybe that combo got us into the smaller fish.
  4. I can only speak for last year (1st of many springs I will be there)....but my best bite came on 28s or smaller. Did nothing on Mags.
  5. I put in around April 15th. Gives me time to get the needed maintenance done. Wife is a tax preparer...just about the time she starts returning to hang around the house I put the boat in and get out!
  6. Hey Tom, nice website and good luck with the school. Who is the artist we hear singing? Very nice touch.
  7. I have used nail polish to seal the rubber ends on my flush mount rod holders. Through the years the rubber broke down and would leave a black ring on anything/anyone that sat on the gunnel.
  8. The pictures of the boat at Wilson get my blood going for spring!
  9. Shark downrigger weights. Although it won't help my fishing, I have a new Atlantic Towers fishing arch to clear out the cockpit a little and get the planer lines and antennae a little higher. Also got a new stereo to help pass the time on the slow days.
  10. I knew I could trigger a response to that one!
  11. Hmmm, the infamous "habenero" is conspicuously absent from the responses? Somebody must have something to say about that. Stinger NBK and NK black/silver. (I think it is called the mulatto)
  12. By the way diesel, I love your qoute at the bottom. Laugh every time I see it.
  13. Also, try throwing some bags over the sides, not sure you can throttle down far enough on a snow machine to attract these slow moving winter fish.
  14. Great post! As I sit at my desk going stir crazy and dreaming about fishing. Laughed like crazy. I too have passed the thru the off season phases..spending, dreaming, spending, preparing, spending, organizing, investing (used to be "spending" but now I justify it as an "investment", which actually means "I don't need it, but I want it"). What really bums me out was a Dr. visit yesterday. When discussing my recent weight gain I mentioned that I replaced playing hockey and golf with salmon fishing thru the last couple of years. I was advised in no uncertain terms that "fishing is NOT and aerobic activity". Guess he heard about my fishless and activity free spoon washing outings this summer.
  15. Did the same dance back and forth a few years ago. Settled on the Scotty's and couldn't be happier. You won't go wrong with either, my vote is with the Scotty's though.
  16. Thanks Rick. I got the same one you got. Unfortunately, I bought the stern light, but got the "10% boat show discount."
  17. Bit the bullet and bought the Atlantic Towers arch. Real nice people to deal with and the material quality and workmanship look great. Can't wait for winter to end so I can install it!
  18. I have a Wellcraft 210 Coastal and the rails appear to be about the same height. I run otter boats and I have had times when the line just drags in the water depending upon wind and wave conditions. I am putting on an arch this year partly so I can run the planer line up higher. Short answer, you can do it (I did for 6 years and caught my share of fish) but you will be happier if you mount them higher than the rail.
  19. Ahhhhh, it is picture posting season! Every year around this time we all start to get stir crazy and the resident artists ply their trade. Always fun to see you guys at work, keep em coming.
  20. Years ago while casting plugs in Long Island Sound during a blue fish blitz I had a seagull grab a plug as it hit the water. 20 minutes later we threw a coat over the thing at the stern of the boat. It felt like we were wrangling an airplane. Fighting something up in the air was pretty wild.
  21. Tim, this looks like a great idea and I will hopefully be bringing a carload of guys from Rochester. Great cause, good way to get together and meet some other fisherman and a nice opportunity to learn something. Best of luck with the event!
  22. Looks like I will be buying lunch....
  23. Based upon past experience, where would one begin a trolling pattern to salmon fish Lake Ontario on a 65 degree January day? Of course I kid. This weather certainly gets the juices flowing...hopefully time flies before we get back out on the lake.
  24. I have had an EZ Steer system from my main motor (Johnson 150) to Honda 9.9 kicker for 8 or 9 years without any real problems. Once in a great while (3-4 times, I think) I have had to tighten down the Allens Key socket to tighten the grip on the steering rod. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another when when the time comes.
  25. Thank you for your input, I PM'd you back.
