  1. Sounds like a great night.
  2. Great job and thanks for the report.
  3. One more thing, most of them have access to each type of fishing and if they cant do it, they know someone good who does. Fly out, Kenai trolling, upper Kenai fly, Cook Inlet halibut, etc. Same basic program everywhere on the Kenai, they do it all.
  4. All good info above. I did a 7 day fishing school up there and fished with and met a lot of guides. My favorite was Paul Tornow at http://alaskasanglingaddiction.com/ and will definitely fish with him when I go back up there. Super knowledgeable, skilled at several types of fishing and passionate about what he does. I cant believe how sincerely happy he was every time we hooked up. Loves what he does and it shows.
  5. Super cool. I will neither confirm or deny that I had a few tears watching it. Enjoy...time flies by.
  6. Ditto what A-Lure-A said. I actually fished most of last year without a fishfinder because I didn't want to incur the expense of pulling my boat to do install midseason. I learned to find and fish the temp break like never before. I now really appreciate how important temp is and watch that closer than the fishfinder screen. I had a great year despite fishing blind. I have a Depth Raider now and it works well, had the Fishhawk on my previous boat. I would buy the Fishhawk first if I was in the market again. Also, we go crazy with lures and wind up fishing with a very small portion of them. Over time they will all hook you. If just getting started, keep it simple and get a few of the patterns you see over and over on here, in different sizes. Natural Born Killer, Black Widow, Carbon 14s are a few that seem to be working well for me this year. Just my 2 cents. Be sure you are running sliders on your downrigger lines. Increases your haul significantly over time. Some fix them and do great, I have always free slid them and it gives an amateur like me a much larger coverage of the water column. Lastly, if you really want to learn quick what is important take a charter. We have a great group of guys out of Rochester and you will learn more in a day than you could ever dream of. PM me if you wish for a few names.
  7. Appears to be the hole I through all my fishing money in to.
  8. Awesome! Thanks for sharing. My 3 are mostly grown now and I miss those years. Enjoy
  9. I like the fishfinder built into the housing. Great videos.
  10. Said already, but I couldn't agree more: Tom at http://www.atommiktrollingflies.com/ is doing a ton to support the Lake Ontario community and I would certainly start with him, before anywhere else. If he doesn't have what you need, support your local shops.
  11. I'm with Silver Fox, not much luck on the SSW. I think Rick gets a commission every time he mentions it.
  12. Little late to post but put an 8 lb. 10 oz walleye on the board the other day. First 3 fish we did on the day were two big pike and then the walleye. Strange start to the day for this area (Rochester) but I will take it. Starting to fall down the board now, but provided some added excitement.
  13. Not sure if this is posted anywhere else but I just saw it. BAD NEWS FOR BOATERS AND FISHERMEN: Ice Boom in Until May April 16, 2014Updated Apr 16, 2014 at 6:03 PM EDT By Ed Reilly Email this article Print this article ... Get stories in your inbox - Subscribe here April 16, 2014 Updated Apr 16, 2014 at 6:03 PM EDTWESTERN NEW YORK, N.Y. (WKBW) After a record-setting cold and snowy winter, this is not the news that anyone wants to hear. But according to the US Army Corps of Engineers, it is possible that the ice boom might not be taken out until the end of May. The reason is because there is still over 1,000 square miles of thick-packed ice in the eastern part of Lake Erie. The ice problem is also hurting the local sport fishing industry that says the lack of out-of-town fishermen in May could result in a $400,000 loss to the local economy. Watch Ed Reilly's report
  14. Also, if snow starts gathering, keep an eye on the bimini tops. We don't need a repeat of 1989 when they all collapsed and broke the supports.
  15. Anyone have any experience with one of these? http://www.defender.com/product3.jsp?path=-1%7C344%7C2028702%7C2029107&id=1112917
  16. For anyone who hasn't been in the past, I was on the fence about going a few years back and was very glad I did. Interesting information, well presented and knowing it helps to have a full room are the reasons I make every effort to go each year.
  17. I got this name off another site. Lots of samples and very quick turnaround. Mark Lewis The Vinyl Approach [email protected] 888-887-4587 or 508-335-5554
  18. I have had both on separate boats. X4, hands down.
  19. Thanks to all the organizers! Quite an undertaking and a real indication of their individual commitments to the lake. Best of luck.
  20. Stunned this boat hasn't moved. I can only assume it is the time of year because this craft is a salmon fisherman's dream.
  21. It is illegal to carry. However, upstate many people do carry it and usually the worst that happens is they take it away. As for in NYC, I can't be sure because they do so many things differently down there. Best advice: don't bring it if she doesnt want to have to replace it.
