    I have that unit and have done pork butt, ribs, brisket and duck so far. I did find that not enough air was getting under the wood/charcoal in the tinder box and I would have trouble keeping it at 225 degrees. Once I raised the heat source a little it changed everything.

    Took advantage of the continued great weather and fished the river from the pier heads to the O'Rourke from 7-10 am. First, what a gift of a morning- weather couldn't have been nicer for my taste. Have had a long couple weeks after losing my Dad and nearly losing a brother-in-law, so getting out on such a nice day was badly needed and a real treat. Saw 15-20 jumping fish for the morning and landed a 25lber that we hooked while on the west side, in front of Pelicans. Ugly fish with little fight but that is the time of year. Caught on a surface stickbait, back 120'.

    Also, what length are the tracks you have for the Dipsey rod holders? That setup looks like it works real nice. Love the videos.

    Don't have an answer for your which gun question but I went to Alaska for fishing class and researched the heck out of this before I went. Decided to wait til I got up there to see what locals were doing. First part of my class was taught by a Fish and Game officer for wilderness safety. He said bear spray is the only way to go in his opinion. They have found bodies mauled with recently discharged guns next to them. He said the same has not been true for spray. Anyone except the most experienced marksmen who is used to shooting under pressure is going to struggle against a bear charging at 30 mph. We spooked a mom from a boat and I watched her go up a steep angled 20' bank at warp speed like it didnt exist....I am now convinced I could never aim and fire acurately if she was coming at me. He also said bear attacks rarely start with a standoff where you can prepare- they are almost always without warning. Sorry this doesn't meet the "no debate" clause of your post. Just sharing some experience.

    buzzer123 I am sorry this happened to you but my advice is store it in the memory bank and move on. Hopefully venting on here will help you do that. People say and do stupid things when they are wrong, ignorant, mean, even embarassed in front of clients.... There are times we all make mistakes or do things that someone else may intrepret as wrong- but even an idle threat to sink a boat is at a minimum obnoxious. As a former prosecutor I had cases that started with 2 upset drivers and ended up with someone hurt and someone charged. Continue to be the bigger man- you clearly already are.

    Anthony, you are not going to believe this one, and I am embarassed to even type it. Not the usual "my friend didn't get a ticket" either. Time has just flown by this summer and I didnt even know the derby had started until earlier this morning! I have religiously fished the derby every year and for a variety of reasons I just hadn't gotten around to thinking about it. With kids moving home, others heading out and moving my dad and step mom out of their house I had lost track of when it started. I was even confused by why the radio was so dead on Sunday and never put two and two together. Pretty stupid of me. Also, in retrospect, I usually just tell my friends about the derby and let them decide if they want to get in for their one day of fishing like this group was. I save the real derby fishing for with some other guys. At least it would only be on the board...and not leading!

    Late report, but since I rely so much on this site myself, I feel bad if I don't report. 6:30 til noon off Russell in 235-400. Best was in 275, down 90 on the rigger with King of Sting spoons from Bonb Fuller. Did 4 over 25 lbs, another 4 smaller kings and 4 nice sized steelies. Also lost a few. Did one fish on green nuclear paddle, but KOS was the spoon of the day for me. (Thanks Anthony and Chris- wouldn,t have had them if you hadn't been posting about them all summer). Not sure what the new buoy is out there- but action was hot for me all around the west side of it.

    Off Russell in 165-210 from 6:30 til 11. All kings, biggest 26, 22, teenager and a skipper. Lost a brute, too. Green Nuclear spinny/green fly and green gator spoons continue to be the ticket for me. Another nice Rochester day.

    With my Wellcraft I would have someone sit on far gunnel and that would stop the fuel kickbacks. Why? I have no idea, it just worked to get the fuel to the far side of the tank.

    Fished with my good friend Hans, his brother Lars and his son Dylan today. 9 year old Dylan put a beating on a 26lb salmon, we doubled up with two teenagers and had a beautiful 9 lb domestic Rainbow. A few smaller kings and some steelies to round out a great trip. Ran between Russell and Braddocks with 170' down 85' being the best. Green Gator was the best spoon of the day and glow nuclear paddle took a nice king. Great time, experienced crew and good fishing. Pulled when the storms kicked up. On water 6 am til noon. Wicked currents and took some fish out of temp....first sign summer is waning.

    For mono I wait for a ball by the tip and give it 2 or 3 smacks against the water surface and they fall off.

    Welcome to the great chase guys! Terrific fishing this year pretty much anywhere on the South shore. Keep reading posts and let us know how it goes. Lots of great people around to lend advice and we were all new to the game at one time. I learn something every time I go out with someone new. Just to second what Longline said, keep an eye on the weather at all times. I have seen storms and waves on this lake that happened so fast that I thought I was watching time lapsed photography before my very eyes. Don't mean to lecture you, it looks like you have done your hoemwork, just want you to get the most out of your time on the water.

    I run the regular eye until I see the end guide starting to break down and then I put a twili on. Never had a wire fail from anything other than operator error that caused a kink, so I dont think it has caused any harm doing it this way. The length of time you get on a regular eye before breakdown has varied dramatically from rod to rod. Just my experience.
