Might be heading up at 0 dark thirty to fish on Tuesday. According to the NY licensing site, I can get a license online and print a receipt. The receipt seems to be valid for fishing, but I'm trying to figure out if it's only good for the first 14 days after purchase, or not valid till 14 days have passed. Here's a copy from the site. I would think it should read, " only valid for 14 days" , or " not valid until 14 days". Never can be too careful following the letter of the law with Game & Fish. Receiving Proof of License and Registration in the Mail Allow at least two weeks to receive your license by mail. You will receive a receipt of purchase immediately after your transaction: For hunting and trapping: this receipt is NOT valid proof to perform any hunting and trapping activities. You must wait for the license that you receive in the mail before going hunting or trapping in New York State. For freshwater and saltwater fishing: the receipt can be printed and used as valid proof to perform fishing activities. It is valid ONLY 14 days after the purchase was made.

That's a little too far west. I'll have to try online or swing out that way on the way up. Thanks!

Thanks, Haven't been up that way in 4 years. Shortly after they reopened after the big flood in Sept 06.

Anybody know if the Gander Mtn in Johnson City stocks Malin wire line? Hoping to get up to Cayuga or Seneca in the next couple weeks and have to pick up some wire line. If not gander Mtn, any other shops that might have it? Thanks, Ron

I have a G3 V170T for sale. I bought the boat new in Sept of 07. It's powered by a Yamaha F50 four stroke with the VST tiller handle. The VST handle has the throttle, gearshift, trim and variable trolling speed buttons all on the handle. The boat is equipped with 6 stand up rod holders, and 4 Scotty's with 6 mounts. It has a brand new MinnKota 40# Powerdrive trooling motor, and a new X-50 Lowrance finder. It has a built in Guest 2 bank battery charger, lockable rodlockers, livewell, anchor and line with storage compartment, 3 pedestal seats, aluminum diamond plate flooring, bear trailer with a spare, and a snap on cover which is needing some repair. The boat has a 7 foot beam with a double plated bow area and is very stable. It's been a great boat for me, but my wife just wanted the protection from the elements with a windshield boat. I'm asking $6750.00 or best offer. Willing to deliver the boat a reasonable distance. Not Alaska, LOL! phone 484-712-5573

If the engine sounds good and revs up out of gear, but takes a crap in gear, I'd check the points. I've seen them close down shortly after installation. Maybe the rubbing block wasn't hitting the distributor cam square or whatever, but it's an easy check. They didn't go to electronic ignition for nothing.

I've made calls to the places recommended, and am waiting for call backs. I guess they are full.

Fortunately, I think the citizens of both countries feel a warm friendship between each other, but as usual, big govt on both sides steps in and makes a mess of things.

Most D/R mounting plates use the same bolt pattern as their swivel mounts. The Lowe picture looks like they are using a Cannon Eazitroll downrigger. Not sure, but I think they use a smaller base and bolt pattern than your Unitrolls. Worst case scenario might be that you will need a piece of 1/4" aluminum plate for each base that you could mount on the Lowe bracket, then drill and tap for a bigger bolt pattern on the Unitroll, if in fact, it is bigger. I've used Big Jon swivels with Cannon pedestals and other miss matched stuff by making adapter plates.

I go to Canada twice a year and was also under the impression that if you don't land in Canada, you don't need to check in. I kind of do the opposite, I enter Canada at the Thousand Islands, but often will boat from Canada into the states and back without landing. I guess I would be subjected to the same rule. Heck, the US might nab me, then Canada on the return. I don't put the blame on Canada for this nonsense, the US started it all with the passport rule and the Dept of Homeland security. I've always been treated with respect and a welcome into Canada, but returning to the states, I sometimes feel like they are treating me like a criminal. Not once has a border guard said, " welcome home' or anything to that effect. As a veteran who gave 3 years service to my country, I sometimes would like to give those cocky guards a piece of my mind. Maybe they need some time chasing armed illegal Mexican drug runners through the desert, to understand how lucky they are to deal with upright citizens.

I'd appreciate some pictures if it isn't much trouble. I realize my boat will be on the small size, but hopefully I'd be spending a lot of time time there, not just weekends or holidays. So not being able to get on the water for a few days isn't a problem. I'll have to plan a trip up there, I see they have daily sites too. thanks, Ron

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't look like they have a website? Are the sites big enough to keep a 16 foot boat on? Or is there a secure storage area?

I used to live just below Binghamton and loved NY fishing. Moved to S.E. PA 4 years ago and really miss the Finger Lakes, Ontario, Oneida etc. I'm retired now and am considering finding a seasonal campsite anywhere from the Finger Lakes north toward the border above Watertown. I just have a 16 foot walkthru windshield boat with a 60HP motor, so a spot on Ontario would have to be near some protected water for blow days. I'd probably be happy with a site within 5 miles of a launch, as I would trailer my boat rather than slip it. What would I expect to pay for a seasonal fee at a decent campground around Ontario, the Finger Lakes, or others up north? I have a slide in truck camper now, but would probably be looking for trailer that's comfortable for two. I have been traveling to Canada twice a year as I have generous offer on a cottage there, but I'm thinking I'd like to stay the summer. Any recommendations for campgrounds would be appreciated. Thanks, Ron

A few years ago I bought Weller brand downrigger wire off Ebay. Mine was plain, but I'd guess they offered coated also.

That is my other plan is welding isn't an option. Thanks

Anybody familiar with aluminum boat construction? I'd like to know if they use a sealer of some type on riveted hull seams. The reason I ask, is I'd like to have a patch welded to the hull, but it's close to a seam. Sure don't want to mess up a sealant if one is used.

I know so folks have bought their wire line from McMasters & Carr. Does anyone have an item #? I see there's a lot of different selections. I was looking at the 302 stainless 7x1 strand in either 25# or 40#. Is that what folks use? Also how many feet of wire will a Sealine 47 take? thanks, Ron
