  1. How effective would eel traps be when they run the creeks to spawn? It would have to be a every year event to trap as opposed to lampricide every now & then.
  2. Your not alone on this happening....my post a couple weeks ago.....> viewtopic.php?f=6&t=35301
  3. ...so what's with the eel attachments on rigger balls? A couple of you have mentioned that it has happened to you it in the past few weeks. Well, Sunday I had two occasions during the day that there was a eel stuck on my rigger ball (12lb sharks) and the second time the ball came up with an eel on, it had 2 on it. These bad boys are are mature ones, say 14"+. Not sure when they hitch on but my set was between 100' & 120' down. I was hoping one of you fishologist would chime in and educate me (us).
  4. Short version: It would be a lot cheaper if you just take a couple charters to get those screamers you crave and it won't jeopardize the friendship/client relationship you have.
  5. That is one of those "Ford vs Chevy" questions.
  6. I generally use the #2 setting and it gets me out plenty far enough. I don't have any tangle issues at that setting.
  7. I have the Mercury 9.9 4 stroke (which is a black Tahutsu) 6 seasons now with about 470 hrs on it. Works just fine and humms all day. You'll probably get your best deals on a Nissan/Tahutsu in that class engine so I'd say go in that direction.
  8. ......when it's frozen!
  9. Good catch. That's what I would have like to report. As you may have read we didn't do so well on the other Cayuga Lake.
  10. I have the same feeling. Not even a dink salmon. I went into my box of spoon tricks and the only one that worked was the one on how to load my boat on the trailer and go home
  11. No,.......more like
  12. After reading your report I felt a little better with my results yesterday (misery love company). Pretty much the same report, same area. No spoon fish and only a couple dink lakers. My fish came off the dipsey in the green/white family also. My weed clump episode was with the rigger. The weed clump almost stopped the boat till I cleared it (someone wasn't watching for weed clumps ).
  13. Algae bloom
  14. Well, I did my own field testing with the 30lb Big Game line yesterday. Ran 2 rods side by side off the riggers. One with 20lb Flea Flicker and the other with 30 lb BG. The 30lb line failed miserably . It's better than the regular 12lb for sure but still picks up fleas enough to say, "why save your money". The only flea attachment on the Flea Flicker line was at the knot on the swivel connecting the leader. Now I know why RR goes to 50lb.
  15. : ....and also assuming that your teeth are close enough together to strip`um
  16. New antenna cost about $50.00. How much time & money are you going to spend scabbing the broken one back together? Here is one for $37.00 bucks > http://www.amazon.com/Shakespeare-5206- ... ne+antenna
  17. You should have known better,........not enough lines port side
  18. No, that wasn't me Scott. I was solo and only ran one wire dip and two rigs . Didn't pick up any legal salmon and one 17" bow. The lakers were running pretty good size early then just the 3 to 5 lb'ers. Weed clumps gave me a fit `cause I wasn't watching what I was doing. I don't like the FF line but just put up with it. I have an extra set of reels on board that are spooled with FF line and just put them on as needed. The reels don't hold much when you have that nasty stuff on but enough to deal with the Finger lakes fish. Frisco bout sold me on the 30lb `till you mentioned 50lb ^
  19. Hi Scott,.......I've been using flea flicker right along and was thinking about trying the 30lb Big Game but after that comment you got me wondering, why bother change? I was across the lake from you yesterday over in Aurora doing about the same. Didn’t get much of the silver fish but the lakers were looking for a snack.
  20. Won't that kill the action of the first lure?
  21. It is doable. I used something like this > http://www.cabelas.com/product/Fishing/ ... t104616180 and attached one of my cheater lines to it. You can also use a folded clevis,..> http://www.cabelas.com/product/Fishing/ ... t104616180. I put a small split shot under the slider/clevis lightly crimped just enough to hold it where you want it so if a fish hooks up on that lure it will slide down to the dipsey and trip it. It's a little bit of a pain to deploy but after a few times you'll get your own technique. I ran it for awhile just because and then abandoned the method and ran more lines ( that's another story). It's a way to get another lure in the water if you fish alone. I did get 2 fish on it once. Fortunately they were undersize AS. BTW, you'll get more tangels running a cheater over a dodger than you will with this setup as long as you run spoons. PS: if you are using wire I would put a 8mm bead on ahead of the wire knot so the clevis chafe the knot.
  22. I used the vinyl letters & numbers for my boat registration # on the bow and also for my boat name on the transom. They have been on for 10 years now and still years of life in um. Picked the sets up at my boat dealer. Can probably get them in other types of stores or online.
