All I want for Christmas is a patch kit for my dolls.

Stix,....Huntfrisco just installed one in his new boat this summer. I believe he has the BayStar steering. He did have some fitting, adaptor hose and compass placement issues. After solving all that the unit works pretty good.

I use the 2 doll 6 rod spread

Hay Tom, thanks for taking so much of your time on this issue. It's really important to so many of us. As a Finger Lakes troller I would really like to see other lakes included in this endeavor. A new regulation may be easier for the State to change if it's a general rule for trolling. When exceptions are included then it starts to get messy and it will probably just sit in Committee for years. The real pressure for DEC to act on this will come from our Assemblymen. They are the ones who's job is on the line for reelection and they are the ones that can move STUFF through when the pressure is on from their constituents. Again, I'm behind this regardless of how its presented but will the hundreds of other New York States fishermen care if they are left behind? Tom a lot of LOU members will be reading this and I just wanted to get my point of view out there and hopefully rally the troops . I don't want to come across as being critical of the issue because I'm not. I just want to be included in something that would benefit a lot more fishermen than just those on Lake Ontario. This isn't a single lake issue and I'm sure you'd get a lot more support form the rest of us with a little consideration. Thanks

This is Folsom Lake California , near Sacramento
stinger replied to stan's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Were is all the water going ? Using it to put out all those forest fires Well Stan it seems in this case living in New York does have it's advantages over California when it comes to Natur(al)e resources. Lots of green trees, lots of water and lots of fish & game. Hope that your situation corrects itself but it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon. -
I was more impressed with the doubles. You know how much fun that is.

Dave you are more than welcome to this site and we are fortunate to have you join us. It's the effort of people like you that allow guys like us the freedom to enjoy the great natural resources we have here in New York. I'm also a vet of a war from yesteryear and do not take this freedom for granted. I salute you and your comrades . Please be safe and thank the rest of the soldiers for all of us. Have a Merry Christmas and may the New Year bring you those fish that you are dreaming of. Godspeed

Thanks for sharing. Really good stuff.

Even though I don't fish Lake Ontario I will support any effort to have the number of lines increased. I, like many other members of this board fish the finger lakes and would surely appreciate being included in this effort. Rod/lure/hook point limits per boat should also be considered. A charter with captain, mate, 4 to 6 clients = 12 to 16 lines now with the present regulations. The 3 line rule could increase that limit to 18 to 24 lines . So a lot of things besides the obvious need to be kicked around on this subject before DEC is dragged into it . Bottom line is the 2009 season will probably be unchanged .

I wonder who Z is refering to ?

I'm one of those Finger Lake's guys that usually fishs alone or one other person. Not many fish go in my cooler. Usually only the injured ones and the rest go back. There are many days that all the fish are released without being netted. My enjoyment comes from fishing, not eating, so more lines the merrier on my boat .

I have to agree with you Glen . The rest of us want to catch fish too .

Roger that Chowder. It's a 8" ProTroll and Stan the leader length is 20" from the end of the leader loop to the tip of the fly nose.

This 9.5 lb Cayuga Lake brown was caught in June of this year. 60 clicks on the line counter, #2 setting on the dipsey, 35'-40' bottom depth.

Welcome aboard Dennis. You'll usually find me up the lake a ways around Long Point-Levanna area. Great bunch of guys here and you'll even get some tips on what’s hot & what’s not,.....> after the B@ll busting of course . Think about joining in on the `09 Cayuga LOU-All. Well worth the time and it was in your back yard this year. Check this out. http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishin ... php?t=5013 http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishin ... highlight=

Thanks for your post Chris. I was afraid that there was a problem with those units seen as no one has been talking about them in the various autopilot topics. That's too bad. Raymarine just can't get it in this class of autopilot. I really hate to say good bye to my King because it has given me great service for 17 years in two different boats but I don't want to wait until it breaks before I do something about it and I really can't change my steering without replacing the autopilot. Right now time is on my side so I'll keep looking & shopping.

OK......I know we are into the hunting season and most guys are putting their boats away but I'm still thinking about fishin' and starting to shop for a new autopilot. My present unit (King AP2000) is 17 years old, overhauled 6 years ago and although it is still working Ok I'm going to retired it this winter. I'm thinking about replacing my steering system (cable) as well with a new hydraulic system in the spring. My boat is a 19' glass hardtop with a outboard engine. The Raymarine SmartPilot X-5 Sport came out this year and I was wondering if any of you have one and what your experience/opinion is. http://www.raymarine.com/ProductDetail. ... ODUCT=4177 The new unit looks good on paper but does it work?.....all the time?....not like the old sport pilots did. Any input will not only help me but anyone else in the market for an autopilot in this class boat.

Harvey,.....look back at the last couple weeks of posts for Cayuga. That should give you plenty of info on were to fish. As Split said, launch at Tremain on the south end and have some fun. If you decide to still launch at Deans Cove I say look for bait in the 50' to 120' range hanging close to structure and fish that area . There is enough action to keep most people happy but the better class fish seem to be down the lake further.

Fished out of Long Point last Thrusday (9/25/08 ) and the fly bite was OK. The day was a combination spoon & fly day for me. Spoons off the riggers and flies off the wire dipsey. My speed is 2.0 to 2.6 gps. Only had 1 under size fish (LL @17"). From the reports I'm seeing the bigger browns & salmon are south of were I normally fish but I'm getting enough fish to keep me up there. Besides, I just don't want to crowd anyone out.

The Gander Mountain store in the Binghamton area is now stocking the new Sta-Bil Marine treatment @ $19.99 for a 32 oz bottle. I picked up a bottle a couple days ago and noticed that that 1oz treats 5 gallons were as the regular stuff (red color) takes 2 ozs to treat 5 gallons. So even though a bottle costs a few bucks more it will treat twice as much gasoline and has some added benefits over the red stuff. http://www.goldeagle.com/sta-bil/stabil_marine.htm Just thought I'd pass along this info seen as many of you will be thinking about winterizing your boats now.

Thanks for the heads up Mower. I haven't fished since Labor Day and that's like an eternity to me. I took a day off of work yesterday and I launched out of Long Point. Even though I don't use temp probe I had an idea of were to start looking for fish because of your post. I went right to the drop-off areas and looked in the 60' to 150' bottom to scout out some bait. As soon as I found some bait I dropped the secret weapons down (spoons & flies). The fish were taking both and as the morning went on the spoons started to produce a little better. I ended up with a mini slam (couldn't produce a legal salmon). Did 16 for 17 and I was happy . Took one 3.5lb rainbow home to eat and the rest are still swimming. Lakers were running small (18" to 24" size) Flies were white on a white flasher and green/LLB on a silver glow dodger out 180' to210' on the wire dip. Spoons were 2 7/8" blk/white 10' behind the ball at 50' & 60' down. That 50' to 60' range was were the active fish were at. Got all four species there. Not one touch on the slidders. Fleas are still hanging around up at that end of the lake. So again thanks for posting your info. Hope others will also

I think your safe to use any 20lb super/braded line as leader on the Fingers. Most 20lb super lines are about 10lb dia. Just be sure to use a leader rated less than your main line. I also use the snubber made by Opti which has premium swivels and attaches to the dipsey end of the leader. If you don't like snubbers then change the swivel on the dipsey. If your getting line twist when using the good stuff then check to see if there may be something hindering the swivel (ie. fleas) My leader lenght from dip to flash is about 6'.

Chowder says > "a fine laker that parted the leader between Dipsy/ Spindctr, when I inspected this 20# FC it was very twisted feeling so I replaced the other one as well- is this common? " I use Berkley Fire Line for my leader from the dipsey to the dodger/flasher/spoon/plug in the 20# range. Vary strong and abbrasive resistant and doesn't seem to spook the fish. I use this same leader for pulling plugs at Oneida. Again, doesn't spook walleyes, or at least the ones that I catch. Florocarbon line isn't the greatest line to use were high shock & abraision are present. Save it for your cheaters. Check your swivels. If the line is twisting then the swivels are not doing what they are supposed to.

Was out on Saturday up in the Long Point area. Only saw a few boats out fishing and the radio was pretty quiet. DEC was out checking boats but that shouldn't have taken vary long cause there wasn't that many up were I was. He stopped by around 1PM just to make sure I was behaving myself and moved on. Fished the East side for awhile and then moved to the West shore to look for some of those silver fish. My spoon program needs a little fine tuning but it does get me a few fish early in the day but when my fly stuff kicks in and woops the snot out of the spoons. Once the spoons cool off for awhile I change to a dodger/fly and that station starts paying the rent. Must be the way I fish I guess. The last couple weeks I worked closer to the shore line at first light in the 40' to 100' bottom, down only 30-40' & cheatin'. Can usually grab a couple bow's & browns and move out as the morning wears on. The better lakers have been coming over the deep water down 70' to 90'. My best spoon is in the 3" size, black- w/wht or sliver. Fly combo has been either white or greenish stuff. Really don't know what else to say. Thought I'd post something just to get the dialog started again. With the fishing as good as it has been I thought we hear more from the members :? .
