Was out on Saturday up in the Long Point area. Only saw a few boats out fishing and the radio was pretty quiet. DEC was out checking boats but that shouldn't have taken vary long cause there wasn't that many up were I was. He stopped by around 1PM just to make sure I was behaving myself and moved on. Fished the East side for awhile and then moved to the West shore to look for some of those silver fish. My spoon program needs a little fine tuning but it does get me a few fish early in the day but when my fly stuff kicks in and woops the snot out of the spoons. Once the spoons cool off for awhile I change to a dodger/fly and that station starts paying the rent. Must be the way I fish I guess. The last couple weeks I worked closer to the shore line at first light in the 40' to 100' bottom, down only 30-40' & cheatin'. Can usually grab a couple bow's & browns and move out as the morning wears on. The better lakers have been coming over the deep water down 70' to 90'. My best spoon is in the 3" size, black- w/wht or sliver. Fly combo has been either white or greenish stuff. Really don't know what else to say. Thought I'd post something just to get the dialog started again. With the fishing as good as it has been I thought we hear more from the members :? .

That adds up to 37lb 12oz. . After the drop weights were removed it came to 32-8 ,.>......................... >........just kidding. Split, will have to help me out here with what he has. I may have copied his notes wrong . I'll do a temp fix above and clean it up after split responds.

I have this set of smart tabs for sale. These are the polished stainless version, not the plastic ones they not sell. Sold for $170.00 in Cabela's + shipping. Comes with Installation/Owners manual. These are 12"w X 9" deep, for 18' to 22' boats. If your boat is slow to plane out and think you may benefit to have tabs then this is a cheap why to check it out. That is what I did and have upgraded to Lenco Tabs. My boat is a 19' glass hard top with 4 stroke main & kicker engines. Rear 48 gallon gas tank. These tabs worked real good with all that weight on the transom. Looking to get $75.00 PM me if your interested. Thanks

Was a great time. Hope to see those that missed it next year. Last minute stuff caused a few boats to pull out. There were some pretty nice catches represented for the mornings effort. A 5:15 thunder storm cause about a 45 minute delay getting out in the lake but after it passed the boats went to work. Thanks goes out to Splitshot (Scott) for heading up this event this year. Great door prizes!. If anyone has more info to add or clearify (names, weights, captions, etc.), please post and I'll edit this thread. And the winner is..again.. Rusty Rat Second year winner with overall weight of 32lbs 8oz. Total weight of only 1 mans limit of trout & salmon per boat. Line up went like this: 1st Rusty Rat 37# 12oz 2nd Bluemahi 31# 5 3rd Stinger 25# 10 4th Splitshot 5th Playing Hooky 6th Chowder The winner holding trophy, Rusty Rat (Scott). Presenting trophy, Splitshot (Scott) Captain & Crew 1st place youth division - Chowder's son Elliot Chowder standin behind red cooler Nice brown by RR. 9# 6 oz Rollie standing behind the scales wondering if he can have it for dinner . LOU members that were still around after the awards were given Barney donated his time & scales for the event. He is all tired out from weighing all the fish. Thanks Barney :!: BTW, Because of Rollie, none of the fish in this Tourny went to waste. http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishin ... highlight=

"Best of luck (skill) to all especially the husband-wife teams" I think you know that I made that statement affectionately. I admire a husband & wife that can share a common activity. As far as the skill part. Well the fish aren't jumping in the boat and just throwing a lucky spoon in the water may not produce what it will take to win this . That's way split' is on his way up there right now. He needs a little head start. Thanks for the words of encouragement `stix. It's going to be tough for me. It will be like fishing with 8 rods tied behind my back. Ok Scott, I'll try and keep the list updated seen as I won't be heading to the lake until Sat AM. That should give you enough of a head start fishing. PM in your box 43 hours and all this B$ will stop

Hookedup said: "Any guess what the winning weight will be? ." I bet 32 to 35 pounds, still working on geting my crew together for the 2nd." You must be talking about one fish @ 32#. Hope so, `cause if your not catching these then stay back at the park and get the fire started for the BBQ.  .......that fish won't even fit in Rusty's cooler

`stix,.....this is how RR did it last year. Maybe he'll let you borrow the cart after the weigh-in. RR bustin'em getting his catch to the weigh-in last year. wow.....that looks heavy... ....his kid put the `rigger weights in the cooler .

Aye - Aye captain. I'll be out in the morning at it again. `specting to hear a lot of radio chatter on your private channel at 0510. ................... Anything else? quiet now ch 68  9 days left to sharpen hooks

You all better think twice about staying in this derby :? . As long as it's going to be total weight I have this one in the bag. Was out Saturday and fine tuned my technique (after a tip from Chaos ). In 4 hours fishing in RR's honey hole and a little culling I boated a 11#er, 18#'er, 21#'er - biggest, 15#'er and another 18#'er.  Almost broke my dipsey rod on the 21lber. It was touch & go for awhile. Had to shut my engine down once to clear lines and had one hell of a fight on my hands. It's amazing how the weed clumps can tire a guy out . This weekend I'll work over splits' SECRETE spot and clear the way for those behind me like a Polish Mine sweeper. (no disrespect intended) Now Ray,....what does BS mean again. 10 days left to sharpen hooks

I don't know where your getting the impression that there is BS  on this forum. We're all fishermen aren't we? That should speak for itself. Looking forward to meeting you also. 12 days left to sharpen your hooks!

Ok Billy, I had Stamina in my favorites. In todays market it's all about service first, price second. If your service suck$, then who cares about price. Two quick clicks on the mouse and they are now history.

Dave, I installed the FCV-620 in April after doing the same thing you are now. Got some input from these guys and went with it. It's the same as the 585 except a smaller screen. Like you I have a space issue to consider. I'm vary satisfied with the unit. Does all I wanted it to do and then some. I bought it from these guys > http://www.hodgesmarine.com/FURUNO-FCV6 ... fcv620.htm because of recommendations from this board. I made two seperate purchases from them and had the stuff in less than 24 hours with no special handling. Ships from a New Jersey warehouse on DHL, not UPS. Anyway, here is a pic of it on my boat and have it handshaking with my chartplotter. I'm sure there are a lot of good units out there but you can't go wrong with this. Also to consider is service. Not all manufactures have good service or customer relations. I won't mention any names. Just search this site and you'll get an earfull  . I needed some info on connecting the gps & FF together. Emailed Furuno noon on a Thursday. Went out of the office and had an answer when I returned at 2:30. Had my units talking to eachother by 7 PM that night. To top it off the tech that helped me emailed me back on Monday to be sure I was OK with his instructions. Does the unit cost a little more? Maybe, but it's worth it. The end

UPDATE ........on RR's techinque..... http://www.avivafishinbuddy.com/ .....and this is just one more of his tricks. He uses it from the dock and out on the lake from his boat. Of course he has the commercial version that will handle 20# fish. You'll have a hard time pulling one of your fast ones on us this year `rat. Little by little Chaos is finding you out. 2 1/2 weeks to go!
-
I think you'll get all the answers your looking for and then some if you use the search feature for dipsey's in " Tackle and Techniques" . Use a general dipsey search to start and then get more specific (ie: wire knot) to find more detailed info your looking for. You'll have more reading than you'll have time for but just scan down the list of topics and jump into the ones than are of interest. For a newbie I would start with 2 setups and head off to the lake for some experience. The species of fish and lakes you'll fish will dictate what type of line/wire to use. All the knots, leaders, sizes, etc. are mentioned multiple times. Do some reading and then come on back and ask questions to fine tune. Good luck and remember, this is suppose to be fun. Frustration will hit every now and then even for the best fishermen so don't feel alone. That is why this board is loaded with info and guys & gals that contribute to this sport.

Chowder......this may answer all your questions > http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishin ... php?t=5013 Hope to see you out there .

Thank you to all those that inquired and those that looked. Both units are sold. I upgraded my electronics this year and have these two units for sale: Garmin 250DF w/speed & temp. 12/45 deg `ducer. $150.00 OBO This pic shows 4 rigger balls, bait ball & fish around looking for an easy meal. This screen shot shows it set in "duel freq. mode" which gives sharp bottom image and wide cone angle to pick up balls and fish out wider than the boat. You get all componets that comes with unit plus the optional speed wheel ($65.00 value). *************************** Garmin GPSMAP 162 w/internal antenna $ 200.00 OBO Will throw into the package U.S. Recreational Lakes w/Fishing Hot Spots East v5. This unit is already preloaded with the Finger Lakes from Seneca east, Oneida lake and Eastern Ontario. I ran this unit under my hardtop and never had a problem tracking. Usually 18'+ accuracy. My new chartplotter has an internal antenna and also tracks just fine thats why I stayed with Garmin . No need to run more wires than necessary. You want both? lets talk. You want to pick up? We'll talk even more. If your serious then PM me and I'll give you a number to call me at. Thanks for looking.

I really depend on your priorities.......hurry and chance on spilling a perfectly good beer, or.......slow down, carefully finish your beer and hope the fish is hooked good enough to stay hooked. You decide!

Thinking about a lowrance X96 fishfinder
stinger replied to dukhnter8's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Yes Mark, they are vary good units for the money. I also have the GPS Map 162 for sale. Had it tied into the 250 and they hand shake nicely. The only reason I'm selling them is because I had to spend some money this spring to get over cabin fever and upgraded to the Furuno 620 and the Garmin GPS Map 530 Chartplotter. So no need to keep the others around anymore. Just took some picture of the units for sale last night and will be posting them in the classifieds this week.
