  2. Gotcha, yes, I've had quite a few of those over the years and the drags are very jerky on em, never had any blow up on me though. They've all been retired and replaced with better reels over the years. Tim
  3. you must be talking about the old Great Lakes 47 lc's, because my sealine 47 lc's have been indestructable, going on 8 years with a couple of them now. Tim
  4. looks like image shack got hacked Tim
  5. they most closely resemble brown trout (not so much coho), but there are some pretty noticable differences if you know what to look for. The mouth of a brown trout will extend a fair amount past the back of the eye, on an atlantic it pretty much stops at the back of the eye, the mouth/snout of an atlantic will also be skinnier or more pointed, the mouth of a brown is blunter. the spots on an atlantic will be smaller, sparser and kind if have an X look to them The tail of an atlantic will have a definite fork to it, a brown's tail will be pretty flat across the back edge. I'll see if I can find some pics of each on here and post em together and point out the differences. Tim

  9. well then, I'm just gonna take my ball and go home.
  10. That may or may not be true with outboards, but it certainly isn't true with I/O's. They pretty much ALWAYS come with aluminum props standard, even way up into the high 200 HP range. your typical 5.0 L (305 cid) or 5.7L (350 cid) Mercruiser Alpha1 I/O's are 230-260 HP and Aluminum props are found on pretty much all of those unless the owner elected to replace it with a SS prop for the performance increase. As stated above, that sounds like it may be one of those old wives tales floating around out there. Tim
  11. Nice pics stan. Interesting, those look like our september/october fish. Tim
  12. I've got 2 older Mag 10A's that are sitting in my basement unused, so I figured it was time to try and sell them. Telescopic Booms Swivel bases Rear mount dual rod holders retro-ease ball retrievers Brand new power wires, both the rigger end and the battery end on both riggers. These are older riggers and look it, but they work just fine. I had replaced the power wires 5 or 6 years ago and they were the defective ones that the insulation got brittle and cracked off, so I removed those and replaced them again last year (never used since the replacement). Like I said, they ain't pretty but they work and would be a good option for someone just starting out or looking to upgrade from manual riggers. $300 for the pair. If interested, either PM me here, email at tbromund at yahoo.com or call 716-998-7396.
  13. Hey, what are those funny lookin' green fish??? Tim
  14. Nice fish. Hard to tell for sure in the pics, but it looks like it might be a landlocked salmon though, not a brown. Good Shootin'. Tim
  15. Didn't really have plans to fish today, but it was just such a beautiful day I called Dad up this morning and asked him if he wanted to go up and give the mid day and afternoon bite a shot. On the water at 11:30, headed a little east and set up in front of the microwave in 150 and started a pattern of trolling NW out to 375 and back SW to 150. We ended up the day 3/5 with 2 steelhead and a coho landed. Off the water at 5:00 All of our bites came in mid afternoon from 150 fow and in to 100. Wire diver fired 3 times with a green double crush glow opti inticer and green crinkle Atommik back 180 on a 2 setting. 45 foot rigger went once with an NK watermelon and the 60 foot rigger went once with a gold spook. Not super, but being that it is still June, not bad. Beautiful day on the water, regardless of the action. Temps ranged from 67-71 deg on the surface and we had 43-45 deg down 100 on the depth raider. 53 or so down 60, so it looks like the lake is setting up nicely, now we just need for the summer fishing to start. Tim
  16. Niagara had 9 registered each day Tim
  17. that's just crazy, glad I got my AP14 when I did, before Navico bought Simrad, I can't believe some of the customer service horror stories I'm hearing lately. It sounds like they are getting as bad as Lowrance. Yikes!! Tim
  18. Here's an older picture of the rig, it's just a 4" foam float from a Muskie live bait/quick strike rig. Rig it up with a pinch pad release to hold it onto the line. The one in the pic is a regular offshore rigger release. With that, you need to attach the snap onto the line to prevent losing the float if the release comes off. A better way (which I will take pics of this weekend and post the update, it's on the boat up in Olcott) is to replace the regular offshore release with a red OR16 snap weight release, which has a pin in the middle of the pinch pad which prevents the line from coming out of the release. Just let out the copper to the backing, clip the "pike ball" onto the backing and run it down the chute 150 feet or so. We like to put the rod up in the rocket launcher (if you have one) to get it up high and out of the way. If you get a big fish behind the boat that gets close, you just reach up and put that reel in freespool and let it back another 100 feet or whatever you need to to get behind the fish. Then you just reel it back up into position after the fish is in. Here's the pic We have been using this rig for years running the shoreline for browns by letting a stickbait out 40 or so feet, clipping the ball on and running it 200+ feet behind the boat, it picks up a lot of the fish that moved off to the side as the boat went by and then moved back after you passed. This rig lets you run it as far behind the boat as you want without worrying about the stick hanging up on bottom like if you just flatline it 200 feet back. Tim
  19. Carl, it was right on Fat Nancy's home page earlier today, but I don't see it now. Tim
  20. Fish Hawk !!! Fish Hawk !!! Fish Hawk !!! Fish Hawk !!! FISH HAWK !!! hee hee hee CC Especially when it is totally unjustified
  21. Rich, Don't get me wrong, I think the CONCEPT is great too, I just don't trust anything made out of plastic to hold up to the stresses that something like a Diver release machanism will undergo. I wasn't trying to beat up on him, just agreed with Chad's comment. I do get annoyed with blatant cheerleading and just automatically suspect the motives of the cheerleader, because 9 times out of 10 then have an interest in the product/service/etc thay are shilling. My apologies to Mike if (as it appears) that's not the case here. Is June over yet? Tim
  22. Mike, I'm not trying to be a jerk here and please don't take offense, since you are obviously a big jon cheerleader, but quite honestly, IMO, Gill-T is right, from the picture it looks like a nickel's worth of cheap, easily broken, injection molded plastic. Don't take it so personally. The diver may be plastic, but the arm that attaches to the line is metal. Big Jon has SOME street cred with the Great Lakes Fishing community, but not unquestionable. I love their Rod Holders and have 6 of them on my boat, but I've never been at all impressed with their riggers. I don't buy for a second their marketing crap about how the flexible booms are superior and never will. Never liked the rocker switches on the electrics either. I've also seen, (and quite honestly, own) planer boards I like better than Otter Boats. Yes I have used Otter Boats before (On Gill-T's boat, by the way). IMO they are just another company out there selling stuff, you can either like em or not, it's all personal preference, but to suggest that any idea John Emory comes up with is automatically golden is just silly. Tim
  23. Yeah, but most NY fishermen aren't going to be in Canada for 45 consecutive days either. Or did you mean competent boaters Tim
  24. Here's the link to the pro am rules. they clearly state that the minimum size for steelhead is 21 1/2" http://www.lakeontarioproam.net/rules.html Sizes are under the "All Teams" heading below the big Boys Shootout Paragraph. Tim
